Rating: Summary: Read it at least once per year! Review: Tolkien's Hobbit takes the imagination on a wonderful flight of fantasy. I read this book on a yearly basis and each year I am delighted and captivated by the world of Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is a reluctant member of an adventure that will forever change his life and the lives of those around him. He accompanies 13 dwarves on a mission to reclaim the gold and mountain kingdom of their ancestors from the dragon, Smaug. They have many adventures and mishaps on their journey to the lonely mountain including the climactic battle of five armies. Bilbo finds a magic ring along the way which leads, not only to a rise in his stature, but also to a new adventure for his friends in "The Lord of the Rings." Tolkien is a master storyteller and the depth of his skill is best seen in this tale. In the following trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings" the story is continued, but the sheer delight of "The Hobbit" is never fully recaptured. This collector's edition is beautifully bound. Even more enjoyable are the illustrations and paintings by the author himself.
Rating: Summary: Very suspenseful and interesting. Review: The Hobbit was one of the best books I've ever read. You'll never want to put it down for suspense of what will happen to Thorin and company, who are a band of dwarves, Gandalf, a wizard, and our main character, Mr. Bilbo Baggins. Who is the group's burglar and a hobbit. What happens to the group and what is a hoobit? Read and find out.
Rating: Summary: An amazing book Review: This book was an amazing story start to finish. It is about a hobbit, a short hairy being, who goes on an adventure with a group of dwarves. It is a fairly long book and takes alot of time if you are not used to reading something this long.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: Excellent book. Never knew I'd like it. Every one at my school recommended it, so I read it. Very nice story. Also it was very nice how the story mixed largely with Viking Mythology. (No vikings, though. Viking never wore horn; a little fact just for your information.) The names Galndalf, Thorin, Bomber, and other of the Dwarves are real names of Dark Dwarfs in Viking mythology. Also Runes and such.
Rating: Summary: A great story and prequel to the Lord of the Rings Review: Tolkien sets the stage for the Lord of the Rings with this tale of Bilbo Baggins and his adventure. A great tale from the master of fantasy. One will delight in the characters and history that Tolkien has created. From valiant characters like Gandalf and Thorin Oakenshield to villains like Smaug the Dragon and Gollum. Don't read the Lord of the Rings without first reading this book. It sets the stage and gives you great information to read the trilogy. This is a great book to whet your Tolkien appetite with. Read and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: The Hobbit Review: This has to be one of the best books I've ever read. But I've only read it about a hundred times so you might not want to take my word for it. You may just want to buy it and read it yourself. Also if you are sorta lazy you can get it on tape or buy the movie but those things never do a book justice.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: This book is brilliantly written. This has got to be the best book I have ever read. I would recomend this book to mostly everyone.
Rating: Summary: Better than the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Review: I've read this book twice, and it was just as good the 2nd time. I liked it even better than the lord of the trilogy. This is one of the best books i've ever read.
Rating: Summary: Only read this if you are a student. Review: This is a great book, if you can follow what's going on. I am a student who has read the book separetly from school, twice, and I am angry that other students have written inadequate reviews. The first time I read this, when I was eight, I was not following and comprehending what I was reading and would simply scan over all the pages, so of course it was boring, but I knew that I wasn't paying attention, so I didn't think badly of it unlike the other students who have taken the liberty of writing their opinions to Amazon. The second time I read it, I payed attention while I was reading and enjoyed the book. For those students which have disgraced The Hobbit's average rating, if they they didn't pay attention or missed a day in class, the book would be boring when it shouldn't. If you had to read The Hobbit for accademic purposes, please do not display your opinion as it has probably been damaged by the educational process.
Rating: Summary: A Great Journey............ Review: "The Hobbit" would have to be one of the best books I have ever read. It is a definite five star book. This book is great for anyone with at least a 6th grade reading level. It is an adventure full of surprises with suspence around every corner. It starts with a great journey with the main character not knowing what lies in his path. The adventure is long and ends with a spectacular battle between three different races. I would highly suggest reading this book.
