Rating: Summary: Excellect Novel Review: 'Detour for Emmy' was an excellent novel in my opinion. The way that the author goes into such detail and depth about Emmy's feelings is great and makes the reader feel connected and truly understand how Emmy feels. I am a teenager in high-school just like Emmy was and apart from being pregnant, I could relate to all of the other issues that Emmy deals with. When I began to read the book, I looked forward to continuing the reading each time I picked up where I left off. This book is great for all teens and I believe that most teens can relate to this piece of literature in one way or another by the many issues that come up throughout the book.
Rating: Summary: Good message, but sex scenes too graphic for young teens Review: As a director of a crisis pregnancy center, I found the message of this book tremendous. A young teenager getting pregnant, older boyfriend dumping her, unsupportive mom, friends telling her to have an abortion ... the typical situation I hear every day. I am concerned that the story implies that condom and foam use will keep a young girl from getting pregnant, and that Emmy only got pregnant because they used withdrawal. This isn't the right message to be giving to teenagers. The sex scenes are described in detail. The comment I heard from many adults was "soft core porn". Although rampant teenage sex is a reality, I don't think it's a good idea for teenagers to be reading about it as such a glamorous and exciting thing. Teenagers hormones don't need any help getting worked up -- I see it everyday. I am glad that teenage pregnancy was dealt with in such a realistic fashion, but I don't think this book is appropriate for high school or younger teenagers.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put the book down. Review: As a teen mother,I went through everything that emmy went through plus more. After reading this book I was very dissapointed in myself.I would sit there and not want my child,so I gave him to his grandmother,I see him every weekend, but everytime I see him I can't stand to take him back to his grandma. There are no legal documents for her to keep my son. Before you try to past judgement on me,let me tell you everything. My mom disowned me and my son,she kicked me out of the house when I was 4 months pregnant. The father was gone.To make a long story short, this book has incouraged me greatly,I have prayed and I have came to this conclusion, that what ever I have to do ,I am going to get my son back.To Emily I have you to thank for my final disicion,I thatnk you from the bottom of my heart. So clearly you people know what my thoughts on the book is.Thank you.

Rating: Summary: POWERFULL!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Detour for Emmy was a very realistic novel which I really enjoyed. It tells of a young girl's tough journey through adolesence, she is pregant at the age of 15 and then goes through the trials of being a single, teenage mother without the help and support of her family, or the father of the baby. It has very contemporary, important and realistic issues in it that many people can relate to, such as teenage pregancy, being a teen mother, relationships with family, friends and lovers, crime, drugs and many more. Reynold writes this novel in an appealing upfront style, which keeps you on the edge of your seat at times and makes you think about issues brought up in depth all the time. I found it to be a very inspirational book that impacted me in many ways. I would most defiantly advise people to read it.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!1 Review: I borrowed it from the public libaray. And read it in like 3 hour s I just couln'd put it down.I had several of my friends read chapter21 and for all those who have read it you know what chapter 21 is about. During Thanksgiving I took it with me to my grandma's and had my cousin read chap.21 and he hardly ever reads and he got mad at me when i accidentily took it back to my grandmas because I thought he was done reading it. I ttook a long time to purcuse this book but it was worth every penny I read it over and over! If you haven't read it I suggust you read it. Because it teaches a lot and keeps you interested through the whole thing!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: good book of reality Review: I found the story good but it it too explicit for young teens. They have enough ideas of their own without giving them ideas. This is not a book that any school system should allow. Parents should beware of this book.
Rating: Summary: Not for Teens Review: I found the story good but it it too explicit for young teens. They have enough ideas of their own without giving them ideas. This is not a book that any school system should allow. Parents should beware of this book.
