Rating: Summary: Reality strikes the simpleness of country living. Review: Though "The Outsiders" was the first book of S.E. Hinton's that I read, "Tex" remains (along with Kerouac's "On the Road") my favorite novel of all time. There is simplicity here--you believe Tex's soft-headedness by his inner perceptions. In a style slightly comparable to Laura Ingalls Wilder, Hinton delivers a version of life in the country--and this is its greatest appeal, the thing that makes a reader curl up in bed with it night after night, disappearing again into the open sunny farmlands of Oklahoma. More than any other novel, "Tex" delivers the age-old teen truth--that everything will change, even if you won't. Change is everything to teens, and this is their Book of Lesson. I took this book to college, and its message of accepting change was, for obvious reasons, a coming-of-age comfort. I hope teens across the globe share in the heart of "Tex".

Rating: Summary: Movie Proposal for Tex Review: To: Francis CoppolaFrom: Ara Saryan Date: 12/3/00 Subject: Movie Proposal for Tex Tex, written by S.E. Hinton, is a spectacular novel which explains the everyday life of a teenage boy named Tex. The author talks about Tex's family, friends, and daily activities. Events that do not happen very often are also expressed in the book. The scene where Tex and his brother Mason pick up a hitchhiker on the road, and the hitchhiker turns out to be a criminal is a perfect example of something that does not happen everyday. Events like this are very interesting to many audiences who have not experienced such things, but want to know what it feels like to be in that specific situation. Besides experiencing such an event in real life, one of the best ways an average person could know how it feels to be in such a heart-beating event is by watching it on the silver screen. There are also many other scenes in the novel which are very interesting. The scene where Tex and Johnny put caps on the school's typewriters which blew up when certain letters were typed would be a great scene in the movie. This scene would not only be interesting, but it would also be funny. There is not much comedy in this novel, so a funny scene would be great to include in the movie. Tex would be a perfect movie for almost all ages, but mostly for teenagers and adults. S.E. Hinton writes about the dangers of certain choices people make in life. She is trying to tell us that the choices we make now will decide our future. She lets the reader decide upon what choices to make in life. In a movie, all of the concepts the author focuses on would stand out. Many people prefer to watch a movie rather than to read a book. In a movie, the idea that the author wants the reader to comprehend is clearly revealed because of the fact that you could actually see the scenes in the book. In Tex, S.E. Hinton wants the reader to learn from actual events that could eventually happen to anyone. Her goal is for people to learn from the mistakes of fictional characters, which are purposely made similar to real people. Besides all of the qualities Tex will have as a movie, you, Francis Coppola, will be even more popular as a studio producer. You produced two of S.E. Hinton's novels, The Outsiders and Rumble Fish, as films. They were both very popular films, especially The Outsiders. Now, if you produce Tex as a film, you will be more popular than ever. You benefit very much by producing this film. The Outsiders and Rumble Fish were both successful films, and there is a great chance that Tex would also be successful and popular. S.E. Hinton would be delighted to see another one of her novels being produced into a film. I hope you take this proposal into consideration and produce Tex into a film.
