Summary: 2 Thumbs Way Up
Review: "Tex" is a one of a kind book. It has many events that kids at a young adult age go through liek drugs, violence, and the rest. The book is about a boy named Texas, Tex for short, and he has the cities superstar basketball player, Mason, for a brother. Their dad forgets about them a lot and their mom died of an illness when they were younger. Mason and Tex live by themselves for a long time, while their father is off at horse shows and other horse events. Mason always took care of Tex and they got along most of the time. Mason starts to get tired of always taking care of Tex, and their father doesn't seem to be coming home soon. Tex's life starts to fall apart as he starts to get older and start to learn about things in his life. See how his life goes!

Summary: It was a simple and uninteresting book.
Review: "Tex" is mainly about a boy life growing up, it is a simple story with simple writing. I like the fact that it was simple reading but the story did not have much interest to me. It talks about Tex, a young boy, growing up alone with his brother because their father abandone them. It shows the conflict and love between two brothers. Personally, I don't like reading this book because it gets some what boring. I didn't really care for the main character so I did not get into the book. There was a plot but it did not seem to be what I am looking for. I would not recommend this book because it is simply too boring to read.

Summary: Great Book!!!
Review: After Rumble Fish, S.E Hinton took a nine-year break from writing and got married, and gave birth to her son, David. After those nine years, she came back into the Young Adult scene with a vengeance; this time in the form of a sweet fifteen year old cowboy named Tex McCormick. Like The Outsiders, That Was Then, and Rumble Fish, Tex has the overall theme of a teenage boy growing up, but what makes this one different is the amazingly matured style of writing the author has developed. S.E Hinton was surprisingly able to change her usual downtown setting into the country in a vivid and realistic way. Though it was mildly refered to in her previous writings, this is the first of Susan's novels to openly portray sex as one of many ponderings and reflections in Tex's typical teenage mind. Another change is the style of character she uses. Tex McCormick is different from Rusty James, Ponyboy, Bryon, and Mark- he's definitely not as tough, and doesn't smoke regularly (although he says he wants "to get around to it sometime"). I had to give it four stars because of the lack of storyline in the book. There's isn't really a solid foundation to it, but it is made up simply by the innocent way Tex describes what he sees, feels and does. I loved reading about the way he described falling in love for the first time with Jamie. Overall this was an awesome book, not really a drama but a more or less a smart-witted, adorable, and extremely humorous tale of a boy who looks at life and its troubles through rose-colored glasses.

Summary: Nostalgic return to days past
Review: As a girl in my young teens I was addicted to the work of S E Hinton. I recently stumbled across some of her books while at my local library, and re-read Tex along with That Was Then This Is Now. What struck me while re visiting these books was the tie-up of the Mark and Bryon story from That Was Then This Is Now, in the form of Mark being the hitchhiker (and presumably Tex's half brother)escaping from prison to wreak his vengeance on Bryon for betraying him, turning him in. As I was always conflicted and upset by this development in That Was Then This Is Now, it was intruiging to have this re-adressed. I think I'll always wonder if that betrayal of Mark wasn't in fact the ultimate betrayal, and destroyed all that was good in him.

Summary: One of the Best S.E. Hinton Stories Yet!
Review: Do you like stories full of adventure and exploration? Do you like a romance story with carefree and big-hearted people? Do you just simply like to sit down and enjoy reading a good book? Well if you do, This book will keep you on the couch reading it until you are finished because you will not want to sit it down. This is an adventure for all ages, this fantastic story starts at the beginning and gets better as the book goes on. The characters in this book are very-well realized characters which a reader can understand. "The raw energy for which Hinton has justifiably reaped praise has not been tamed-it's been cultivated and disked over and over, and the result is a fine, solidly constructed, and well-paced story," therefore I reccommend you to read this book.

Review: Drinking, smoking, drugs, sex, dating, shopliffting, hitch hikking is what is in this paperback book which is intended for 14 year olds? I like the way S.E. Hinton wrote this book the way the adolesent characters would speak but the genres covered in this book is not appropriate for people in junior high. Shame on you teachers who let your junior high students read this material. Won't somebody please think of the children!!!

Overall this book is satisfactory but unfortunatley it only interests 15-16 year olds because any younger and it's innapropriate, and any older and it's just plain boring!!

Summary: Tex book review by Ben Goss
Review: Having been the very first book I've ever read from Hinton, I enjoyed it a lot. The story tells about a teenage guy who's going through a lot with his brother who's striving to be perfect and his dad who's always leaving him and his brother Mason (or Mace) all alone. Even though they argue sometimes, Tex (real name Texas) really loves his brother and looks up to him--even though he sold his horse. In the end, Tex ends up getting into some trouble and Mace, whom he would ordinarily look up to is nowhere to be found and he has to feel for himself. In the book he is also trying to win the heart of his best friend Johnny's younger sister Jamie. They ended up getting together even though Jamie was kind of annoying.
My favorite character was Mace mainly because he reminded me so much of myself (unfortunately) and he seemed cool.
My least favorite character was Lem--the guy who was partially the cause of Tex getting hurt in the end.
Over all, this is a good book, and if you like it, you should also read Under a Different Sky by Deborah Savage--it's a great book as well.
Even though I liked this book though, the ending was kind of strange and I didn't really like it...books never end the way I would like for them to *shrugs* oh well.

Summary: S.E. Hinton hasn't lost her touch.
Review: Hinton is still a great author, I read this book because one of my favorite authors wrote it. I read it, though the one I got from the library didn't have a good binding on it. It still didn't stop me. I read this book and I thought it was good. I couldn't put the book down, just like the Outsiders.

Summary: Excellet book for young readers
Review: I am in 11th grade and I thought that this book was magnificent. I really enjoyed this book because I thought that Tex and Mason who are two brothers living alone until their Father comes back from a trip, really hated each other, but in fact in the end they really stuck together. I really enjoy books with great endings and I thought that this book showed some of the characteristics of happy endings in this book. Some parts of the book that were not especially appealing to me were when Mason got shot and had to go to the hospital. However that was also good because when they were on the news their father came back from his long trip to see if they were all right. I think that this was great and I would recommend this book to any young reader who enjoys reading. I would also like to recommend all books by S.E. Hinton. Some of those books are Rumble fish, and the Outsiders. Those two books were also from S.E Hinton. I also thought that this book compared a lot to the outsiders which is also about teenagers growing up with no real parents or education, and how they make it through the streets. This book truly deals the hardships face not only in a novel but in real life. IF you have parents or you do not then this book tells you about the troubles that arise in everyday life. S.E. Hinton did a splendid job of focusing these aspects of everyday life into one of the best books I have ever read which is Tex.
