Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: This is such a great book! It is for Harry Potter fans forsure! It's about Arriman the Awful trying to chose a bride. He has acontest for the blackest magic. Belladona is deeply in love, but can't do black magic. She is determined to do something awful in time for the contest. There is alot more to it but I can't tell it all!
Rating: Summary: Back from the dusty halls of OUT of PRINT Review: In the spirit of Roald Dahl, Eva Ibbotson knows that children love stories filled with ghosts, ghouls and witches...this is the story of Arriman, the greatest wizard in the world who can do anything.(except raise the dead) After years of "black magic" Arriman has grown weary of his life and wants to find a successor, but of course he can't find one. So he holds a contest to find a witch to help him produce an heir, but of course the lucky lady is sweet Belladonna, a "white witch".Can Belladonna be the right witch for Arriman, and will you be just as enchanted as I was upon reading _Which Witch?_. This is the kind of book that leaves you laughing after you put the book down...the book is magical! If you liked this one, read _Secret of Platform 13_...that book will leave a twinkle in your eye as well.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I read this book a long time ago when I was a kid, and have been looking for it ever since. I'm glad to hear it was reprinted, and I'm looking forward to reading it again. The book was just plain funny. It was very imaginative and well told. Folks who like the genre might also enjoy "To Trick a Witch" (another book I've been looking for), "The Worst Witch" (watch the movie if you get a chance, it was _much_ better than the book), and the Chrestomanci books by Diana Wynne Jones. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful timeless story Review: Long before Harry Potter, existed Which Witch? Full of humor and a rollicking storyline, Which Witch keeps you constantly giggling with its whimsical world of magic and matchmaking. I think all of my cousins, sisters, and I have declared it one of the most fun reads on my bookshelf.
Rating: Summary: Which Witch Review: If you are impatiently waiting for the next Harry Potter book as we were this will definately sustain you. Infact I can't wait for Eva Ibbotson's next book! This book is an intriguing combination of love and evil. Arriman, a black wizard seaches for a wife while the witches in the contest compete the outcome is a total surprise.
Rating: Summary: Which witch! Review: It was a good book. with vivid characters and colorful events.. that will make you remember them as if you were there. I recommend it to everyone
Rating: Summary: Horror and humour, not 'for kiddies only' Review: Although this book is intended for a bit younger readers than I am, I enjoyed it immensely! I found the characters so charming and the writer has avoided stereotyping them (even Belladonna, the white witch who seems like such a typical, innocent goodie at first, surprises you if you let her. I like the way she so desperately wants to become an evil witch). The humor has wit, pace and an occasional dark turn, just the way I like it. Arriman the Awful is definitely the most wicked and most ENDEARING wizard in all literature. Give this book a try, it won't take long and I bet you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: COMPARED TO HARRY POTTER....... Review: A cute story, but let's face it. Released in 1979, you shouldn't expect anything very original or refreshing. A writer of today could do a lot more with the wizard world. Look at Harry Potter.....
Rating: Summary: A delightful fantasy which is very popular in my library. Review: This book is never in my library. It is a delightful fantasy about a wizard who is interviewing various witches to be his wife.Witty, sophisticated and funny my students have been begging me to read it aloud.
Rating: Summary: Delightful! Review: I was happy to find this wonderfully witty book back in print after having been nearly lost in obscurity. Having read Which Witch before J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books, I found the latter to be quite derivative in style and tone. Which Witch has very likeable, idiosyncratic characters and a quickly moving story line. If you found the Harry Potter books to be enjoyable, you'll probably like this one, too.
