Summary: Which Witch
Review: Which Witch is related to Island of the Aunts and is written by Eva Ibbotson. This book is slow at the beggining but very detailed towards the end. Ibbotson makes the book realistic.Belladona is the only white witch, with hair golden, silky, shiney, and gracefully sways right to left. My favorite part in the story is when all the witches are being picked up by a mysterious bus. The witches sit in the bus and talk trash about each other while going to their gathering. If you like wizardry, why don't you check it out at your local library.

Summary: Fails to entertain
Review: What attracted me to this book was the praise that said if you were a Harry Potter Fan then you'd enjoy this book.

Well, I didn't as much as I'd hope. First of all, the story was just ho hum. Having to read through three or five chapters of failed tests of witches proving themselves just bored me. It was sort of a waste of writing space, especially when I noticed that Arriman wasn't that bad considering he just wanted to write a book instead of wreaking havoc in the world. Really, I wanted to know what Belladonna would do that's so bad but it turned out that she didn't know about it...gee she's a well rounded character! Also, the book was horribly predictable. Especially about what Belladonna wanted to do to make her dark, who stole Rover and so on.

Also, compared to the witchcraft in Harry Potter verses the one in Which Witch, there were some elements that offended me. Like saying the Lord's Prayer backwards. Even though this book is only meant to entertain, this book interweaved religious figures and made the story seemed all to real. At least Harry Potter is anonymous in its reference to Chrisitanity.

From a concerned parent's point of view, this book is not entirely for kids, especially in Christian homes.

Summary: Wich Witch
Review: A boy was born named Arriman but he was no orrdinary boy. He was a wizard. He said he would never marry. Latter he wanted to carry on his job of the great wizard to a son. So he had a compatition for witches in his county. A girl named Belladona won and they lived happily ever after.
I think Wich Witch is an excellent book. There are funny parts and there are sad parts. Arriman and the other witches are really interreasting. There is an old witch that turns herself into a table but can't get out of it. I highly recamend Wich Witch.

Summary: hilarious send-up of beauty contest
Review: Poor Arriman the Awful! For years he's lived alone with only a secretary for company, and now he has to find a wife. Naturally, she must be as powerful a dark witch as he is a wizard, adept at blighting and smiting and living in an uncomfortable castle by the sea. So the beautfiul Belladonna, who can't help being good, naturally doesn't stand a chance - especially one a real sorceress determines she's going to get him.
But Belladonna rescues an orphan boy who has a worm with special powers, and suddenly it looks as if she really might stand a chance...
My family love Eva Ibbotson's novels so much they're often read on constant rotation. They're funny, wise and as sensible about magic as E. Nesbit. I can't think why she isn't as well-known as JK Rowling. Perfect for children of 6-10.

Summary: Belladonna's
Review: Have you ever wanted something so bad but couldn't have it because you weren't fit for the job? Belladonna was a white witch, but longed for Arriman the Awful, Wizard of the North, like no one could believe. What disappointed her even more was that Arriman was holding a competition for the blackest witch of Todcaster, to become his new wife.
Arriman had been searching year after year for a black wizard to take over his evil ways, but could not find one. He created Wizard-Watcher, who is a three-headed creature that watches for the new wizard's cometh. After long searching day and night, there was no sign of the new wizard, so Arriman's assistant, Mr. Leadbetter, set up a competition with the help of Lester, an ogre. Can Belladonna strive for excellence in becoming a black witch with just short notice? Or will that strive turn into failure?

Summary: The best book ever!
Review: I absolutely loved this book and now no other book even compares to it. I rarely ever read a book over again but I couldn't resist, it was that good. And this book is good for all ages.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: a great story with a great plot
Review: I read Which Witch a little while ago and I found it to be great. Arriman had a good personality, the common man with powers. In class, we had to write a book review, and I chose to do Which Witch. It was a great buy. The thing that was really fabulous inside this book was the epilogue, where Terence was more to him than expected. The reason I give this book a four is because I think it could use a little revising with the plot and everything, it've have to been a little bit of revising to make five stars. Otherwise than that, I loved Which Witch. This is the only Eva Ibbotson book I've read. I am looking forward to reading other books by her in the future, such as Dial-A-Ghost.

Summary: A Funny Fun Fantasy for Kids & Adults!
Review: Arriman the Awful, the handsome, single Wizard of the North is tired. He has absolutely exhausted himself blighting and smiting, blasting and wuthering, and doing everything he could to keep darkness and sorcery in the land. When a gypsy informs him that the new Wizard of the North cometh soon, Arriman is overjoyed at the prospect of retiring to a vacation villa in the south. However, the new Wizard doesn't cometh. In desperation, Arriman decides to marry so that he can train his son as his heir. He cannot marry just any witch, of course, the witch that he weds must be wildly wicked so that their son will be thoroughly black. A contest is devised: whoever performs the darkest piece of magic will become his bride. Belladonna, the smallest, youngest witch of the coven, wants desperately to win, as she has fallen in love with Arriman. But she has one problem - she is a good witch and cannot perform black magic no matter how hard she tries. Just when she is about to despair, her salvation arrives in the form of a dirty little orphan and his magicial earthworm. What follows will make readers laugh aloud as they follow Belladonna's desperate efforts to become a bad girl!

This is my favorite book by Eva Ibbotson because it is so humorous. It is not often that you find a good girl trying to become bad so that she can marry the handsome hero/villain. The other witches in Belladonna's coven are quite literally a scream as they all have their own weird quirks and interesting familiars. The story is well written and has many fun details about the way magic works. Also, even though there is a rather dark subject matter, this book is not in the least bit scary. Highly recommended reading for young fantasy readers who are looking for something to read in between Harry Potter books.
