Summary: Great for a read-aloud or parent-child shared reading
Review: The beginning of the book is slow. An average reader might not continue to read-on to the terrific parts. That's why I think it would be best read to a child or with a child. However, once the reader gets to Chapter 10 (The Visitor), it is non-stop, can't-put-it-down reading. The reader becomes engulfed in the sadness and joys experienced by Omakayas. Also, almost any child can identify with Omakayas' irritation with her little brother, Pinch. It is an excellent children's book to provide a view of everyday Native American life before their lands were taken and settled by foreigners. It is a good book to be read with the Little House series to contrast the Indian's way of life and views with that of early pioneers.

Summary: The Birchbark House is Wonderful Book.
Review: The Birchbak House is a wonderful book. I was amazed how freely Louise Erdrich expressed the main character's, Omakayas, feelings. When Omakayas felt sad and depessed I felt sad too. When we were reading this book in class I couldn't wait to come back the next day. I know how Omakayas felt to have an annoying little brother like Pinch. So all in all, I think this is a really great book for everyone.

Review: The Birchbark House by Louise Erdich was amazing. I think it will encourage more kids to be independent readers. Readers will even get inspired to read more Louise Erdich books. It's a very good way to learn about Indian cultures such as the Anishinabe. It combines culture, relatives, happiness, sadness, and fun! All in all The Birchbark House is wonderful to read.

Summary: The Birchbark House
Review: The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich is a book all kids will want to read. The manin character is an Ojibwa girl named Omakayas. It was really sad when Ten Snow (Omakayas's friend) and Neewo (Omakayas's baby brother) died. I really liked the part when Baby Neewo spoke to Omakayas through the birds. All in all, I think this book is better to read together than alone.

Summary: The Birchbark House
Review: The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich is a very amazing book. What I liked was when Old Tallow told Omakayas that she was the only one who survived smallpox. The one other part I liked was when Pinch ate the berries because he ends up saying Andeg(the bird)ate them but it really wasn't. The part that I disliked was when baby Neewo and Ten Snow died. It was really sad. Also the other part I disliked was when the visitor came because that's when everybody got sick. All in all this book was really interesting.

After Neewo dies his sister Omakayas becomes depressed because she loved Neewo the best. Pinch, her other little brother annoys her all the time. I am looking forward to reading more of Louise Erdrich's books.

Summary: Louise Erdrich's Gift
Review: The Birchbark House is a beautifully written account of early Ojibwa life on Madeline Island. Historically accurate with the language woven into the story in such a way that the young reader will get the flavor of Indian words. I bought copies for two eleven year old grand-daughter, and now I am buying two more. It does tell of the hard life and it is sad in parts, but what young girl doesn't like a good cry.

Summary: Sad, Tragic and Lively Indian Tale
Review: The Birchbark House is a tradgic historical fiction novel about the Ojibwa Indian Tribe, their way of life, which got interuppted by a special "visitor". Louise Edrich creates main charaters that seem real, and packs the story with sad, tradgic, and exiting events. Love, emotion, and family bring this Indian Tribe together. If you like sad, drematic, exiting, and on-going novels, choose the Birchbark House by Louise Edrich!

Summary: A Very Good Book
Review: The Birchbark House is a very good topic book for people learning about Native Americans. Though it is historical fiction, it shows a daily Native American life very well using the example of a little girl called Omakyas and her siblings. Louise Erdrich is very descriptive in her writing, and I recommend it to readers of any age.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Everybody should read this wonderful book.
Review: The Birchbark House was a good book and I think Louise Erdrich is a wonderful author and illustrator. The part I liked the most was when the main character's, Omakayas, grandmother told her a story in the winter. It was about her grandmother when she was a little girl. A sad event in the book was when the visitor came and brought smallpox to the village. It was also sad when Omakayas's little brother died. All in all, everybody should read this book.
