Summary: Destined to Endure, a High Fantasy Classic
Review: I read this book in hardcover when it was first printed in the '70s. It had a beautiful cover then: a sort of Maxfield Parrish-like golden afternoon on a terrace, with Sybel and her fabulous beasts relaxing in the last light of the day. It matched the mood of the book perfectly: beautiful, a little melancholy. Also delightfully mysterious, tinted through with golden light.

This book is still with me. I still know the heroine's name, the name of her lover (or not quite lover, this is a YA book), and boy do I remember her beasts. When I was done with the book, it was so painful to think that it was over that I made a complete list of all the characters, ready--at 12 or however old I was--to write the sequel, because I couldn't bear it that the characters and my window on their lives had stopped (I never got any further, than writing out that list).

Telling more of what has stayed with me from the story itself probably gives too much away, so there I have to stop.

I don't like everything that McKillip likes--and I've given several of her books a couple of starts because my enjoyment and love of this particular book remains so intense. But this book--this book made an enduring place for itself in my imagination.

Summary: really very good
Review: It is really very good. I was intrigued by McKillip's ability to make the relationships between characters so real to life especially because the book itself is set in the imagination. You will find nothing 'cheesy,' nothing ordinary, nothing expected in any of McKillip's books. The stories read like dreams, and her unbelievably lyrical/poetic prose is yet unparalleled. Definitely recommended.

Summary: Wonderful book!
Review: An enchanting fantasy for most ages. Turned out to be a bit of a romance, but a wonderful one at that. I will always remember this beautifully written book.

Summary: Okay
Review: It promised to be an interesting book and it was...somewhat. But that girl really got on my nerves! she's a bit selfish and really kinda creepy. I did like Coren and wanted to cheer when he put her in her place. And I really got sick of they way they talk "I can not" "I will not" "I do not" instead of "I don't" etc. It just bothered me! I was disappointed by it, but if you want to read it, try it from a library and then buy it if u like it.

Summary: A very neat and precise book that you will love
Review: I picked up this book at a bookstore after I looked on here and found that people that read Cynthia Voight also liked Patricia McKillip. So Iwent out and bought The Forgotten Beast of Eld and read the whole thing at one sitting. It is about a girl, Sybel, who receives a baby,Tamlorn, when she is 16 by a man,Coren , from the town of Sirle. Sybel is somewhat of a telepathic person, who can talk to magical creatures that her grandfather had collected. Then, Sybel's dragon attacks a man when he is going to steal gold, and the men turns out to be Coren. They fall in love, and wish to get married. Meanwhile, Tamlorn wants to know about his father, who happens to be the king, and goes to the palace with him. I will not tell you anymore, because it gets more exciting, and enjoyable. I absolutely loved this book!

Summary: A good book, if you don't mind love stories
Review: I read this book about a year ago but I still remmember it pretty well. The story itself was compelling and often sad, though a bit slow moving at times, so I rate it four stars. The writing was great also, in true fantasy style in very elequent fashion. It gets five stars. As for the characters, that's where it gets more complicated. The main character, Sybel, is a young sorcerous who cares nothing for anyone or anything except the magical beasts she tends. But she is forced to care when a young man called Coren brings a baby (Tam) for her to raise. She grows to love Tam and gets very attached to him so when Coren comes back for him some years later it just about breaks her heart. In the beginning, I admired Sybel for her inner strength and cold nature, but as the story wore on, I began to like her less. She seemed way to cold, way to mean, and she took advantage of people she loved, and allowed others to take advantage of her. By the middle of the story I was thoughroly disgusted with her behavior and really didn't care one way or another what happed to her. Coren was still a good character though, and he was the redeaming factor for the story, and for Sybel, ultimatly. My only problem was that I thought Coren was much to good for Sybel, but I do admire him taking her on like that and straightening her out in the end. So I suppose characters gets 3 and 3/4 stars. So altogether this book gets a well deserved 4 stars. This is definitely not a book for young children, though twelve is probably old enough to read it.

Summary: Listen To this before you Buy
Review: First I read the it got a meddal and it had great reviews, so I tried it. I am a lover of Fantasy books but I must say this was the worst by far. The plot was so bad and uncaptivating but I hoped it would get better, it did not. I do not get why people called it a great book and why it got a meddal. I would never recomand this book to anyone, but see for yourself. Who knows you may like it...

Summary: McKillip is a great writer
Review: After reading WInter Rose, which I didn't like very much, I was sure I'd hate the Forgotten Beasts of Eld. I'm not into talking beasts or magical witches/wizards, and you can't call me the biggest McKillip fan. After reading a few chapters, though, I was really absorbed into book. Sometimes, the descriptions were too lyrical, and it could get a little hard to follow, but it's okay b/c the book has everything to make a great story: mystery, suspense, a bunch of narrative hooks, contrasting characters, and romance. There isn't much violence or actions in The Forgotten Beasts of Eld (bound to disappoint some adventurous readers), and Sybel, the wizard, isn't your stereotypical damsel-in-distress (bound to disappoint old-fashioned readers), but depth and intensity replaces swordfights and McKillip is able to deftly create a story which any fantasy/romance reader could love.

Summary: Disapointing
Review: I thought this book would be really cool, but it turned into a wizard romance instead of an adventure. This is the first book I have actually cheated and read the end before I was finished, that's how bad it was. I do not recommend it to anyone who likes adventure fantacies
