Summary: What are you thinking?
Review: I am a VBS director and Mid week children's program director. I have been involved in teaching children about God for about 17 years. I picked this book up, becuase I have noticed today's christian kids are hardened by the world. And our parents are not aware of what they can do to raise up children strong in the Lord.
At first the vison that was shared in this book really caught my attention. But as I continued to read on, I found the authors methods very outdated, and old fashioned. The children of America are on hyper stimulation they can not sit in the Church and be preached to by a pastor when they are 3 years old.
Disciplining them 15 times if nessesary to make them listen sounds abusive and not understanding to the attention span of a young child.
The author believes that children should not have classes taloired to thier age and maturity, but the way we raise up kids to be warriors is by having them sit in church and listen to the preacher. Come on, at 3 years old a child has no choice, but by 13 that same child will be resentful of God and the Church!!!
Jesus used modern methods to teach the mulitude. He used things that they understood and had meaning in thier lives. He spoke simply to simple people, and acedemic to the acedemics. We as teachers of this generation must speak to them spiritual truths using methods and words they can understand. Forceing them to sit through a sermon is not the way to reach these kids.
Needless to say I threw this book away!!!
