Summary: Anne Frank and Me
Review: I was floored by this book. It wasn't preachy, overly harsh, or dramatized--perfectly in the middle. I was initially turned off by the flakiness of Nicole, but I do realize that this was an accurate portrayal of SOME teens... Anne Frank and Me reminded me of Jane Yolen's The Devil's Arithmetic, and I noticed that Cherie and Jeff sort of tipped their hats to her. Anne Frank and me seemed to be a more in depth, YA oriented version of the original. Anyway, I just wanted to say that Cherie and Jeff hit the mark. If I am any indication, this book appeals to its desired audience. Thank you! Deana, 14

Summary: This book moved a university graduate to no end!!!!!!
Review: I was lucky enough to see the New York debut of the play for which this novel was based, and thought not only was it extremely moving but extremely thought provoking as well. I thought that there was no way that the authors could translate the play into an equally moving novel, but I was wrong. I adored the book, because it has just the right blend of elements to make it appeal to anybody. I urge people to read this book, because it will move you, and has the ability to make you think about things in a new light. Congrats Jeff and Cherie, you did again!

Summary: Best WWII Book Ever Written
Review: I am 12 years old and before I read this book the holocast used to just be a "thing" that happened. It used to be "so cool" that bazillions of jews got killed, but after reading this book, my mind is forever changed. The book starts out with something I can relate to-- a computer savy 15 yearold with an annoying younger sister views the holocast as a "thing"--. This captures my attention and incouraged me to read something other that my Harry Potter books. <--- very unusual for me! So NE ways when this girl went back in time, everything felt so real, sometimes I forgot I was me and it felt like I was there. It told the scary truth about being arrested, going into hiding, watching people die, and then watching you and your little sister die. At the end I actually cried it seemed so real. I have read many books about the holocast over the years, and this is by far my absolute fave!!! READ IT!

Summary: Excellent historical fiction.....
Review: Anne Frank & Me takes the reader from contemporary, suburban life, to the harsh realities of occupied France during the Holocaust as seen through the eyes of Nicole, a Jewish teenager...let me say that this story not only captures the interest of an adult reader such as myself, but also as an educator and historian. This novel touches upon the many facets of Holocaust history, dealing with themes such as life under the occupation, resistance, transit camps, as well as gentile interaction with the persecuted. I give this novel two thumbs up...Many kudos to the authors for being able to produce a quality book which conveys a complex history in an extremely readable and interesting style that will appeal to many young readers....

Summary: From a teenger in occupied Paris and also an historian
Review: I am Dr. Jacques Adler. I wrote The Jews of Paris and the Final Solution (Oxford. U. Press, 1987). I also happen to know the authors of ANNE FRANK and Me and had been more than happy to assist them by sharing with them my experiences of what it meant to be a young Jewish boy attempting to survive in nazi-occupied Paris. As an historian I have read their book with care and although written for a young audience I was moved by the authors' ability to recreate and convey the meaning of feeling hunted. Indeed, as far as I am concerned they have beautifully suceeded in conveying the fears and anguishes of that daily life that I experienced. Although written for an American audience, my two grandchildren, aged respectively 17 and 14, discovered in it something of my own past which I had not been able to convey to them. Congratulations Cherie and Jeff Gottesfeld, you have given us a text/come/ story that will allow young people to begin to understand and visualize the nightmare that was the attempted extermination of the Jews of Europe.

Summary: This Book is Difficult to Put Down
Review: This book is very difficult to put down. The main character imagines herself transported back in time to war torn France, where she experiences the struggles of a Jewish family under German occupation. The authors accomplish something which many pieces of young reader's fiction about the Holocaust fail to do. They make it clear that people about whom we care were murdered. Often, the genre of Holocaust literature for young readers is about heroic rescuers and near escapes. These authors dare to do the painful, to create a character we admire and love and to allow her to share the fate of one and a half million Jewish children. The book is a compelling yet easy read. The main character is wonderfully engaging and very believable. History is included so subtly that children will learn it without knowing it. The authors tackle the issue of deniers and revisionists brilliantly.

Summary: How do you make Anne Frank's story relevent to todays teens?
Review: All the kids in my are read Anne Frank's diary. My daughter couldn't get through it. How do you make the story relevent and up to date so that todays teen can relate to what happened in the Holocaust? Cherie Bennet and Jeff Gottesfeld have written the answer. Anne Frank and Me engaged my daughters attention from the first page and she finished it the same day. I also read it that same day. It is immensely readable and factual. It speaks todays teen letting them feel a part of a event that changed and rocked the world. Please read it and see for yourself.

Summary: Good storytelling and good history
Review: Bennett and Gottesfelt have written a wonderful historical fantasy where a modern teen travels back in time to learn the truth about the holocaust. Rather than retell the plot, which previous reviewers have already done, I'll tell how it affected me. "Anne Frank and Me" realistically depicts both modern adolescents in America and Parisian adolescents during World War II, while also managing to be first class storytelling. The authors show how the spirit and concerns of youth transcend time, space and even remarkable and horrific circumstances. In contradiction to one previous reviewer, my friend who is a distinguished professor of literature and holocaust studies said the research was clearly meticulous. The final chapters in the cattle car and death camp sent shivers down my spine. Both my adolescent daughters also loved it. While young people who might fall prey to misinformation about the holocaust are the most important target audience, everyone should read, and will be deeply affected by this book.

Summary: **NICOLE'S CHOICE**
Review: Ever since I have finished reading the book Anne Frank and Me, I've found myself wondering a lot about the choice Nicole had to make on the train. Whether to jump the train with David, or stay on the train with LizBette. When Nicole decided to stay with her sister (basicly murdering herself) I was realy put to shame. Because she told David with out even thinking that she would not jump because Liz Bette was sick. But I think that if I had been put in her same situation , I would have given it a second thought. This part of the book realy made me think about myself, and how awful it would have been to live in her time and to have to make life changing or life ending decisions every day. Anyone is welcome to add their views on this same part of the book! I would love to see what others think!

Summary: BETTER FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT....
Review: ...This is a book that will move, shock, transport, illuminate, and shake the reader into a state of knowing and truly SEEING what the Holocaust was all about.

After reading Anne Frank and Me I could barely speak. I sat with tears pouring down my face and remembered... This brilliant page-turner is written in the language and point-of-view of a teenager; yet both young people and adults will equally be caught in this starkly realistic depiction of a time and place in history in which Anne Frank herself appears.

Once you read Anne Frank and Me you will never be the same. I know I won't. Run, don't walk, and get this book.
