Rating: Summary: One of the Better Young Adult Werewolf Novels out there Review: I've always been a big fan of vampire and werewolf books. So, when my fiancé's sister handed me a stack of her favorites, I dug into this. Blood and Chocolate was the most recent one I've read.Usually I'm not big on werewolves, and I seldom read young adult novels anymore, but I really enjoyed this one. It had the right mix of supernatural and real, teenage problems that made me feel like I could relate. I'm not werewolf, but I do remember problems with friends and boyfriends and parents from that age. It was nice to read a book about a teenager that fully accepted who she was. Vivian loves being a lope-garou and she loves running around in wolf form, feeling the air in her fur. What she doesn't love is the disarray her pack is in while they try and recuperate from a tragic fire the year previous that claimed the life of Vivian's father, who also headed the pack. She doesn't care for Gabriel, the target of her mother's current interest, and the most likely male to lead the pack. When Vivian meets up with Aiden, a dreamer and poet whose free spirit seems to attract unusual friends and parental disapproval, she feels as if she's met her soul mate. Despite the packs disapproval, she dates him, and later reveals her true self to him. This causes disaster as Aiden can't accept her for who she is. As the romance between Vivian and Aiden is the driving force behind the book, I was a little disgruntled when it took an unexpected turn midway through. Aiden goes from loving Vivian totally and being open-minded to being terrified of her and wanting to free her from her curse. One incident is all it took, and I think it kind of soured the rest of the book for me. I understand it's the driving force behind the second half of the book, but the switch from "I love you, let's be together always" to "You're a monster! Get away" seemed really out of character. Overall I think this is a well written book, especially for the genre and age group. Most teens that enjoy vampire novels or supernatural books will probably like this. Actually, anyone who enjoys supernatural themed novels would most likely enjoy this.
Rating: Summary: I Think The Writer Is A Genius!!!! Review: This is one of the best plots and storylines I have ever read in a book. I usually read books like these but I must say this author is gifted. She leaves you hanging on the edge all the time and leaves you wanting more.
My favorite part in the book is when they are deciding who the leaders of the pack are gonna be, namley choosing the alpha male and female. When the main character Vivian tries to protect her mother, Esme, she is named head female. Which also means becoming the mate of the newly appointed Gabriel. She doesn't accept Gabriel because he went out with her mother. I think in this book age doesn't restrict anything!
They are a torn apart werewolf pack in a suburban setting. Not a good mix I tell you.The main character Vivian falls in love with a normal human named Aiden. But it is apparent later that he is repulsed when she shows him her true, wolf, form. This hurts Vivian more than she cares to bear and she does a reckless act which she doesnt even remember about!
Namely she is confused and lost and her emotions are mixed up. This book portrays Vivian as a caring, feirce young woman who cares for her pack, humans, and her life. I absolutely love the style of this author, who whips together action, romance, and a little bit of comedy. This author, Annette Curtis Klause, is one of the best authors ever!!!
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about myths and also to anyone who loves a mix of feeling, settings, and tons of action!!!
Rating: Summary: enjoyable Review: I liked the idea that werewolves have their own religious beliefs and it's really interesting to know what werewolf thinks human are "incomplete" that's probably the best idea in this book.
a werewolf girl who falls in love with a human boy. How romantic... BUT WAIT more stuff is coming to reveal that the story is actually NOT that simple:
Vivian- even though she's obivously really in love with Aiden but I really believed that at first she goes for the human because she doesn't want to be controlled. because she's so beautiful and every werewolf guy wants her to be his mate.
Aiden- he may have liked Vivian but he never really loved her, not even when he doesn't know the truth. Aiden just wanted to own her, because Vivian is beautiful. But when he finds out how terrifying she can be, he dumps her and told lies about her. it's not the human frailty that ticks me, it's the fact that he told terrible lies, if it were me, I would juss ran and dissappear.
Gabriel- the coolest character in the book. so level-headed and calm about everything. he and Vivian is just perfect ( except for the age difference, but hey, they are werewolves)
overall, a very enjoyable book but I would recommand silver kiss over this book because silver kiss is more moving and emotional.
Rating: Summary: A Werewolf Pleaser Review: No matter what age - young person or adult - I think you'll enjoy BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE. In fact, I'm planning to give it as birthday gifts to my young cousins (ages 12 to 16) who like to read. I enjoyed it, and I'm almost 30. To summarize, BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE is the angst-filled story of a teenage werewolf (Vivian) who falls in love with a human boy, which is against the traditions of the pack. In the meanwhile, she must deal with real-life issues like the death of her father, moving, making new friends and fitting in, and dealing with the fact that her family (the pack) is growing apart. Among the werewolf parts of the story is a fascinating contest to see who will be the new alpha male leading the pack, and how he acquires his mate. I thought all of the characters were intriguing and the story to be well written, and I ended up reading the entire book in about two hours. I also couldn't help but root for the boy I wanted Vivian to end up with, and was so pleased when she did! Thoroughly engaging, BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE isn't just a romantic werewolf fantasy (this is not a horror novel); it is also a coming-of-age story. Parents please note that there is quite a bit of sexual tension in this book, as well as the use of some profanity (though most is in line with canine references).
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: This book is what got me interested in reading. The story can be related to any teens life even with the werewolf part and I believe Viv goes through basically what most teens go through. I would recommend this book to anyone at any age. I find myself rereading it even though I am older, the book still holds my attention.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: This has got to be one of the best fiction books I have read in a long time. Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: I came across this book after reading a small part of it in the back of another one of Annette Kurtis Klaus' great books the Silver Kiss. It seemed intresting so i decided to buy it. Once I did I could not take my eyes off the pages.I even stayed up later to finish it. The way she intwined the name title into the story so perfectly was amazing I fully understood what she ment by it. Anyone who sees the title is usually intriged by it as I was.I absolutely love this book. Buy it now!
Rating: Summary: very insightful look on the human condition/behavior Review: I usually hate werewolf books, but my b/f told me to read blood and chocolate anyway. Well, after reading the back of the book, i still was not interested. I felt that there would be no universal concept to this book. After I got about 50 pages into the book, i realized that i was all wrong about it! This book analyzes human behavior and compares us to werewolves. I loved this book. It was entertaining (i cried, and it's hard to make me cry) and yet insightful. VERY VERY well written!!
Rating: Summary: I'd give it a 4.5...:) Review: Definitely a great book for middles-schoolers, wouldn't recommend it for anyone younger, though. I like reading about werewolves, vampires, etc, and this was a good book.
Still...
Sometimes, it seemed like the adults were little more than children themselves, especially Esme. OK, granted, these are not normal people we are talking about, and it seems to fit when you remind yourself 'werewolf'. Other than that, very good character development. Would have liked to have gotten to know Gabriel more. Plot was great, even though the ending sounded slightly forced. It would also have been nice to have heard of what happened to Aiden. Somehow, the blood-chocolate connection didn't seem strong enough. Great book, unless you are squeamish, that is. >:)
