"Swoosh". He made the shot. Hoops is a non-fiction story. Hoops is called hoops because it is about basketball.
There's a kid named Lonnie Jackson. There is a tournament going on. Now Lonnie and Cal (Lonnie's coach) have to make a decision if they want to blow the chance of a lifetime.
If you like basketball you should read it. If you have to read a book then just get Hoops because it's short and easy to read. I rate this book a 5 out of 10.

Review: (im 13, not 12) well first off the start of the book isnt really that interesting, until Lonnie and Cal get closer, it book starts to have some action in it. i admire the way the dialog of the story takes, like how they would say "split", or "cat", like those kinna typa slang in it. it makes tha book more interesting. i like the way it also describes the relationship between Lonnie and Mary-ann. but i wish there were more to it though. some parts of the book are funny. there are a lot of parts that you wouldn't epect to happen, like in the end. its was un expected. then at the end of the book, i thought there would be more, but it was the end. i think i need to read "the outside shot" because its the part 2 of hoops. o yea and its a good book if u like basket ball hoops is probably one of the best books i read. i think it should be made to a movie because from the way i read it, its like a movie in my mind. so yea, i really recommend this book it GETS TO YA! ~one
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Hoops Book Review Review: After reading Slam, another book written by Walter Dean Myers, I was inspired to read Hoops. I, personally cannot relate to Lonnie Jackson as many other readers may be able to. But being a male athlete is pretty much the only way I am able to relate to this book. On that note, I happened to enjoy this book very much. Hoops takes place during the summer, instead of the regular basketball season, giving Lonnie one less thing to worry about. I think Myers did a great job including all of Loonie's friends that he plays basketball with as well as his love life. One thing that Myers could have wrote more about is Lonnie's relationship with his mother. The ending of the book did disappoint me a little bit though. If I was able to change one thing in the book, it would be the ending. But the conclusion of the book only made Lonnie stronger, which is a job well done by Myers.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Pretty good book. Review: Even though I haven't finished reading this book completely yet, So far it is pretty good. One thing I don't like about it is the dialogue,Some of the lingo and different sayings are hard to understand but I can figure it out. I like the describing of the games a lot. Many of the sections in it have good action. In conclusion I like this book.

This is the first Myers book that I have read and it makes me want to read another. This is not just for people who enjoy basketball but for anyone who has ever had a difficult decision to make. Lonnie Jackson is a seventeen-year-old boy who lives in Harlem, New York. He is your typical teenager, his mom gets on his nerves, he has a job working at a hotel,he has a girl who he cares about but can't exactly tell her, and he gets into some mischief. One thing sets him aside though, that is his love for basketball and his skills. These skills help lead his team into a tournament where his coach, and friend,Cal gets involved in some gambling. He sits Lonnie out because he is supposedly injured. Does Cal keep Lonnie on the bench and lose or does he put him in and have a better chance of winning? Read Hoops and find out.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Hoops by Walter Dean Myers Review: Hoops by Walter Dean Myers is a really good book about not only basketball, but also about what most high schoolers go through, drugs, sex, and violence. Lonnie, a basketball player with a given talent and a -want- to go to the NBA. He enters a tournement where college scouts will be everywhere. His coach for the tounement is Cal Jones, a former NBA player who was suspended becuase he was caught shaving points for money. When the championship comes around Cal is made a deal to keep Lonnie out of the game so these gamblers can make alot of money. When the clock ticks down, Cal has to make the decision whether to let Lonnie have a chance in the spotlight or money. Hoops by Walter dean Myers is a very good book that is one of my favorite.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Hoops Review: Hoops by Walter Dean Wyers is about a basketball player named Lonnie Jackson. The main characters are Lonnie Jackson and his caoch, Cal. Lonnie's team is in a city tournament. I did not have a favorte character in this book. I could relate to the story because I play basketball. I couldn't really relate to the characters because they are city kids, not very respectful to adults. I recommend this book to people who play or like basketball. (13 and up)
