Summary: Alanna: The First Adventure
Review: I read the first 3 of this series...and it was all I could do to smile weakly at the person who highly recommended it to me. The basic plot sounds enticing, but the flesh of it disappoints...It is weak and stiff and really lacks in terms of adding imaginative whim to the main adventure bit, leaving it a dry read...The characters...I can't sympathize with the main character, and I don't really remember many of the others having read the series a few years ago...

Summary: Overrated
Review: Tamora Pierce's popularity is the unfortunate result of the whole Harry Potter phenomenon. Simply because Pierce is a fantasy children's writer, bookstores have been pushing her books. "If you like Rowling, you'll love Pierce" is the slogan. I'm a big fan of fantasy books for children, and I eagerly read this book. It completely bored me (plus, what's up with the sex?). The protagonist is annoying and uninteresting. My mind felt like it was rotting as I was reading Pierce's simplistic books. If you want some good children's fantasy books (or good books in general), read Diana Wynne Jones. She's way better than Rowling, and it's complete blasphemy to speak of Pierce in the same breath as DWJ. DWJ has wit, depth, and originality. I would take her books with me on a deserted island since I'm always discovering new things about her stories every time I re-read them. Start off with _Howl's Moving Castle_ (now there's an interesting female protagonist!) and go on from there.

Summary: A Must-Read
Review: If you haven't read any of Tamora Pierce's books yet, I highly suggest it. For fantasy lovers everywhere, this series is what you live for! In the later books, romance evolves, but there's a ton of action, too. Whatever your needs for the perfect book- romance, action, a strong heroine, evolved characters, a strong plot, I could go on and on- Tamora Pierce has set it down all in this quartet.
The first book takes place when Alanna and her twin brother are each going off: Alanna to a place where she will learn to be a lady, and Thom to become a knight. Alanna desperately doesn't want to become a lady, and Thom dreads becoming a knight, also. They switch places, Alanna pretending to be 'Alan' and Thom going off to study sorcery, which is taught in the same place as Alanna would have gone off to study and become a lady.
This first book is a wonderful introduction to the series, where Alanna faces the challenges of her oncoming womanhood, trying to compete with the young boys around her and keep up with them, and most importantly, hiding her identity. But before you groan and think that this is just another girl-pretends-to-be-boy-knight-and-becomes-a-hero book, think again! Pierce's story telling ability and knowledge of weaponry makes this book, and series, an entirely enjoyable read!
Basically, this is a must-read, and one of my favorite books of all time, if not my favorite. If your a fantasy lover, then this story is something you can not afford to miss out on!

Summary: This is one of the best books I have ever read!
Review: This book was fantastic and always kept me on the edge of my seat. For some reason I could not put it down. It was exciting all throughout the book and never had a dull part. If you are about 11-14 year old girl you are sure to love this book. If this book is as interesting to you as it was to me, you should read the other 3 books in the series. They will keep you interested as well. Once I had read all of the books I was devistated because they were so good and I kept on wanting more. Really, if you are looking for a great series and probably your new, all-time favorite book ever, read this.*****

Summary: Great!
Review: I absoloutly loved this book. It is about a young girl, Alanna, who wants to become a knight. So she disguises herself as a boy named Alan, and goes to the palace to become a page in a knights training. THe most exciting part was when Jonathan took sick with the Sweating Fever. In the next book, she finds out that Duke Roger sends the sickness.

Alanna makes an enemy of Ralon of Malven, who later becomes a Rouge and tries to kill George.

This book is great and I reccomend it to anyone.

Summary: Good first book but sequels require warnings
Review: I picked up Alanna: The First Adventure when I was browsing through a bookstore and was enchanted by the cover and the thought of a fun female fantasy heroine. Though an adult, I love children's fantasy books and the more innocent (though still real) themes they involve. The First Adventure did not disappoint and I enjoyed the book more than any in months. Alanna is a fun, brave, intelligent heroine. Unfortunately, I then went on to book two. Though initially as captivating, half way through book two, the teenage Alanna begins a frivolous affair with her best friend. I was devastated that a series that started so well and that I enjoyed so much degenerated into such a storyline. Even the good overall plot could not convince me to read on and I returned the third Alanna book that I had bought but not yet read. So although I enjoyed The First Adventure, I cannot rate it highly because it leads to sequels that are inappropriate for their target audience and unfortunate for everyone who had been enjoying the series. While The First Adventure made me want to read all of Pierce's books, her follow-up novel disappointed and saddened me and made me unable to recommend any of Pierce's books.

Summary: i love this book
Review: This is the one of the best books I have ever read. It follows the young girl Alanna through her first years to get her shield, her years as a page. I enjoy both reading and writing and oftentimes I find myself relating books to this one, or writing a story like this one, with the same characters. If you buy one, you must by the other three. The other series, the immortals, is also very good, but not AS good. You will not be disappointed as you follow Alanna through here memorable journeys.

Summary: A great book for all
Review: I thought this book was wonderful I had just gotten it for christmas. It's wonderful I stayed up till two o'clock in the morning reading it(not on christmas eve) because it is such a great book I think many will love this book and I think if you are trying to find a good book for someone you know to read this might be a great idea.

Summary: no putting it down
Review: I loved this book and all the others that followed it. Some books you finish just because you are curious what will happen, well this is just not one of those books. Some books you have to wait for the story to come into play, but not this series. anyone looking for a great read with secrets, adventure, suspence, and a great, determined girl with a passion for the fighting arts NEEDS to read this book. thats all I want to say about this book because I don't want to ruin the book for you.

Summary: Haven
Review: Everyone should take the time to read this book, not because the story is original (It isn't) but because the characters and events will stay with you for the rest of your life. Any time life gets too stressful, I pick up this book and I am transported to Alanna's world, my safe haven. The characters are real and alive, permitting the reader to relate to them personally. You will never forget this book, nor will you regret spending the hour or so it takes you to read it.
