Rating: Summary: One of the Best I've ever read!!!! Review: I first found out about this book as I browsed a bookstore in Ca. I couldn't buy it so as soon as I got back to Wa. I went to the liberary and checked out. I couldn't put it down. I've read the other books in the series and I couldn't put them down. I read them all in one day they were that good. I really think that I have alot in common with Alanna because I want to do almost every thing a knight does. I think that Ms. Pierce should continue The song of the Lioness series because the way she stopped with the last made me want to read the next book about George and Alanna's life together. Again it's one of the best books I have ever read, and I've read alot in the 14 years of my life.
Rating: Summary: A review that has the summary of the book and my thoughts Review: This is a great book! I am a fifth grader who just read this book over the summer. I do not reccomend this book for girls under 10. One of the reasons I liked it was that it was very believable. This is a great book and I highly recommend it
Rating: Summary: Great book, and boys like it too Review: I am writing this for my son (age 8 1/2 and reading quite a few grade levels up)who just purchased books 2, 3, and 4 of the series. He loved it for all of the reasons mentioned in the other reviews. I would just like to add a few things. First, I originally picked up the book where it had been misfiled in the regular science fiction section - it was supposed to be in Young Adult - and bought it for myself! I thoroughly enjoyed it as a reminder of my younger days when things were clearer and as one of the reviewers said painted with a broad brush and bold colors (sorry if I misquote). Other adults should also enjoy it if they are willing to take it on that basis. Second, my son who is at the "girls, YUCK!" age had no problem identifying with the heroine. Alanna was immediately classed with his friend Liz as "she's really a boy" - sorry for the male chauvinism, but that is his highest accolade for a girl. So, Allana is definitely for people of all genders. Third, and my one warning for parents of younger readers, about mid way through the book Alanna hits puberty and begins menstruating. When I read that section I didn't really think about it - it seemed nicely handled in a way that would probably reassure girls entering puberty. Then my 8 year old son read it. Let's just say that my wife and I had to get into subjects we had thought safely in the future
Rating: Summary: Wonderful characters and a fun story for all ages! Review: I am a Junior in High School and I absolutly loved this book. It was recomended to me by a friend and it was one of the best books I have ever read. The characters are so fun that I wish I could meet them in real life. The beginning was a little slow but as soon as they got to the capital and we met George, Jonathan, Gary, Raoul, and we get to see Alanna, or "Squire Alan", interacting with them the story really takes off. Both kids, and those who are young at heart will love this book. It is a great story about overcoming personal fears, and overwelming odds to help your friends. It's also a very nice story about following your dreams no matter what they are
Rating: Summary: Interesting for adults, too! Review: The best fantasy can be enjoyed by all ages. I found this series at the public library and have not been able to put it down. I'm a senior in high school, setting out on my own writing career, and looking for stuff to read! This is one of the best pieces of work I've run into in a long time, and I've just got to add it to my personal shelves. If you're bored with smutty fantasy try this out. It's tastefully done and an adventure every minute
Rating: Summary: Great!! A MUST READ BOOK! Review: Before I discovered the Alanna series I read The Immortals which is also by Ms. Pierce. In the four books of the Immortals I read about Alanna and her courageous fight to become a knight. At the end I begged my parents for Alanna's first book. I got it and could not put the book down. I was then unable to recieve the other three books because of my parents. I still reread the first book over and over just for fun. This book shouldn't have a ten, it should have a 100!
: In this book Alanna is getting sent off to a convent to learn to be a lady.(Gross!) While her twin brother Thom is getting sent to become a knight. Alanna was always the best at anything to do with a knight, Thom, on the other hand wanted to be a sorcerer. So they do a twin switch adding that there are twin BOYS. Alanna goes through many obstacles during her training and only four people know her secret: Prince Jon, George(King of Theives), and George's mother who is a healer. Alanna finds she has a Gift and she needs to use it. Using her Gift she healed the Prince. Then later she and the Prince rid the world of some Pretty Bad Demons. I recomend this book for all ages from 8-100 it has suspense and mystery that will keep you on your toes.
Rating: Summary: A book that really caught my attention to the last part. Review: Alanna had a spirit that made you stand up and notice her. She made friends quickly at the palace and learned that being a knight wasn't what it cracked up to be. She felt that she had to quit in the first few days but came back to beat up a boy named Ralon. I highly recomend it to anyone and everyone out there! A must have in reading
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: The book was Great. I first read Tamora Pierce's series:The Immortals, and Learned of Alanna and her series. Alanna is almost like my idol because I am a tomboy and I want to play football and do other things most women have not done. In this book Alanna of Trebond a.k.a Alan of Trebond switches places with her twin Thom. She has a very embarassing moment that ends in victory. She has many good friends. I think she liked Prince Jon and George the most. Alanna has a power that only some have. It is called the Gift. This book was great even if I did read The Immortals first
Rating: Summary: It's such a great book. E-mail me to talk about it!!!!! Review: First time I read this book I couldn't put it down, I've read it along with the rest of the series 6 times!! Everyone in my class wanted to borrow it!!!When everyone had read it, we sat down and discussed it! That is very strange. There are only a couple of serious readers in my class.I myself read at least two thick chapter books a week, and I'm the lightest!
