Summary: one of the best books EVER!!!!!!
Review: This book is what got me started reading fantasy. I originally read it for a school competition but I loved it so much that I bugged my dad to buy it for me for about three months before he finally gave in! When I read it again I decided to buy the other books in the series. Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors. My sister also read this book and said that she thought they should make it a movie. If you enjoy a great fantasy book and like a non-stop read you should REALLY buy this book. It is great for any age. I read it in 6th grade and still love it in the 10th. Also if you enjoyed reading the Alanna series then you should try reading Mercedes Lacky's Heralds of Valdemar series. In other words I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: It was good......
Review: I read and enjoyed all the Song of the Lioness books. I must say, Tamora Pierce's love scenes really dissappointed me (too much sex and not enough "I'll love you always") and I liked her Immortals series much better. For anyone who enjoyed this book, I recommend The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown, by Robin McKinley. =]

Summary: This book is one of my favorite books ever!
Review: This book was so good. By the time i got it the whole series was out and the immortal series. I bought this book because it sounded completely like me and i read it in about an hour. When I finished it I made my mom take me back to the book store and I bought the next two with my remaining money and then I scrounged around to get enough money for the rest of the books. These are the best books I have ever read and I encourage anyone who hasnt read them to read them. I have already made all my friends read them and they all agree with me.

Summary: The first book was good, but....
Review: I was browsing through the library when I chanced upon this book. A girl becoming a knight .... medieval times-set.... elements of fantasy. It sounded like the perfect book for me. I always like those spunky tomboy characters, and a girl becoming a knight had appealed to me. When I read it, I loved it! I finished it in one night, I could not put it down and I couldn't wait to get the next book in the story.

Then, I got the next book, In The Hand Of The Goddess, and words can not express how disappointed I was.

For one thing, (don't call me a prude or something) all the love scenes really disappointed me. In this book & the next (Woman Who Rides Like A Man) Jon turns into this awful character, very different from who he was.

For example, in WWRLAM, there's this one passage where it says something like "..alanna still loved jon with all her heart & their passion was the same as ever at night, but sometimes his words and actions disgusted her..." Um, excuse me? That is not love. That is lust, motivated by sex. When you love someone "with all your heart" you love them for their personality and who they are (including what they say and act like) not just for their body. It scares me what image of love this projects to young girls who read it.

I also ocassionally was struck by how simple the writing was. It would be very easy to read for almost anyone, it seems that only the plot, and all the action carry this book.

I have not yet read Lioness Rampant, and am debating whether I should or not. On one hand, I do like the character Alanna and am a bit curious to see what happens, on the other hand, I got kinda disgusted with the way the story was turned.

I was very disappointed about the sequels, more disappointed because I liked the first one so much and the sequels had so much promise. There's fun and engaging characters, a good story idea, and some of the good of the first book ocassionally shines through. I would reccommend the first book to people, but then again, maybe not because they might be anxious to get the rest of the story (like I was) and I wouldn't want to subject them to that.

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read.
Review: I first read this book, and series, as a teenager, and it soon became a favorite. My first copy was very worn, and when I lost it I was unable to find another copy for many years; I was very happy when I was able to find a new copy. This book is full of magic and adventure and is great for boys and girls. Although it is one of the best books I have ever read, probably the best review I can give it is that I recommended it to the parent of a pre-teen girl, who did not like to read, and the girl loved it so much that she started to read more.
