Summary: song of the lioness quartet
Review: As a mother who bought this set of books for my 13 yr old daughter, I was unhappy with the content. I purchased it because of reviews about the strong feminine main character but upon reading the series, I was surprised that Alanna as a teen slept with different male friends.(for someone as innocent as Alanna, a kiss would have been enough and would still have given a bit of romance to the story) I also felt like there was too much reference to drinking wine in the series (and why? Teens don't need that and it added nothing to the story). I am not that conservative myself, but I do think that literature for young girls could do better. Overall, I felt the series was fun to read but was light reading (romance book type light) and not that believable. Even my daughter pointed out how hard to believe much of it was. She said it wasn't that well written and I have noticed she hasn't read the other quartet of Tamora Pierce's that I purchased for her at Christmas. That is saying something, because she reads everything she gets her hands on.

Summary: The Lioness
Review: I was first introduced to Alanna through a trip to a local library in sixth grade, and I still adore the series to this day, in eleventh grade. To older readers fascinated by the concept of a girl masquerading as a guy to become a knight, don't let the age range printed in the book of 9-12 scare you off<or the title 'Young Adult'>. Yes, this is not going to win you 800s on the verbal SAT, but the story and characters are timeless. After at least twenty readings, I can still pick up the book and grin at the humor, and enjoy the banter between the characters. It's like the movie you know how it's going to end, you've watched it a million times, but each time you watch it, it seems new.

Summary: Long time favorite
Review: I have loved this book, and the rest of the series since my 4th grade librarian recommended this book to my class in the mid 80's. I am glad to see that others have found it, as it doesn't seem to stay on bookstore shelves for long. Alanna is still one of my favorite fictional characters. The first book is excellent by itself or as part of the series. There is a larger picture to the entire series, that does not become obvious until the 4th book but is rooted in earlier incidents. I am just waiting for the movie version.

Summary: A Great Book!
Review: Alanna, The First Adventure is a great book. It's imaginative, its characters and its world are believable. Alanna has tons of adventures, some small and some that effect a lot of people, but she trys to conquer them all. I also liked this book because I like fantasys, but not fairy-tale-yeah-right -that-will-never-happen-and- people-don't-act-like-that books. This is totally believable, and you can just imagine if our world had magic in the Mid-evil times and were a bit cleaner then this would be what we would have acted like. Tamora Pierce is an really good author. No wonder she wrote three quartets and is working on two more.

I'll tell you what all of the quartets are, even the ones that are not written yet, in the order you should read them in. Song Of The Lioness Quartet;Alanna Immortals Quartet;Daine Protecter Of The Small Quartet;Keladry;only one is written yet. The Circle Of Magic Quartet;Sandry,Tris,Daja,Briar The Circle Opens;I don't know if any books have been written for this yet.

These are all must-reads and if you liked this book, you'll love these.

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: This book was a work of pure genius and so were two of the others in the four-some. But the second to the last one was just awful, it went on and on. But if you buy this book, buy all of them, the ending in the fourth one will totally surprise you!

Summary: A HELPFUL review!
Review: Ambitious, brave, and bold. That is a pretty good description of Alanna of Trebond. Alanna, the heroine of Alanna, The First Adventure,is a ten year old girl with one huge goal: to become a knight of Tortall. There is also one huge problem: girls are not allowed to become knights. Alanna, however, has a plan. Since she is old enough, she is going to be sent to the convent to learn how to be a lady. Her twin brother, Thom, is going to be sent to the palace to be trained as a knight. Thom hates fighting and wants to be a sorcerer. Alanna loves fighting and is scared of magic. So the twins decide to switch places.

Alanna, The First Adventure is a very well written book. The characters are believable, and the book keeps your attention. One of the especially good things about Tamora Pierce's style is that she gives Alanna her weaknesses and fears like the rest of us. She doesn't just have to concentrate on becoming a knight, she also has to face (unlike some other authors' heros) all of the problems that "tweens" and teens have. Setting the scene is another one of Pierce's talents. I can easily picture the kingdom of Tortall ( the land where most of the book takes place). Pierce has created a whole different world that not many writers could create. The only exceptions I can think of are Patricia C. Wrede, Brian Jaques, C. S. Lewis, and J.K. Rowling. Alanna, The First Adventure is not too long or short, (though I find The Realms of the Gods, another of Pierce's books in which Alanna appears, a bit tedious). Of all of Pierce's books that I have read, Alanna, The First Adventure is by far the best.

Pierce's book teaches us a lot of things. It really shows that you can accomplish almost anything if you put your mind to it, but that does not mean it's going to be easy. Actually achieving your goal will usually include hard work and challenges. Alanna is a good role model for pre-teen and teenage girls because of her bravery, ambition, and her "I can do it and I won't depend on others" attitude. Alanna, The First Adventure also makes a few good points, such as the fact that there is such thing as an "honorable thief". It shows that sometimes a few friendships can be better than many, most of the time those few people will be by your side no matter what secrets you posses.

My only complaint about Alanna, The First Adventure is that it seems a bit unlikely that Alanna could manage to keep her sex secret while she is a teen. But other then that, Alanna, The First Adventure is a wonderful fantasy book that I believe many people would benefit from reading.

Summary: Best series
Review: The Alana series is a great series. Once you start the series, you wish it would never stop. Unfortunantely, it does. But there is a sequel series to it called The Immortals. All of Tamora Pierces are great. If you haven't read any of hers, you are defiently missing out on somethiong great.

Summary: TAMORA PIERCE IS THE BEST
Review: I read the first alanna book in 5th grade, then i read the rest of that series, wild magic, circle or magic, and i've read the first of her Kel books. They are ALL good, and i have all but two of them. The only bad 'uns are the third alanna book, it's plotless, and, that's about it. these books are really creative, and their universe is totally believeable. i recomend her wild magic books, they're her best overall series.

Summary: Yup, it's a good book
Review: Hello.

This is a goood book. I think I've read all the books in the series neary three times. I remember reading it first time two years ago and being completely hooked, (not paying much attention in class to the point of my social studies teacher almost taking it - in sixth grade) The series is very enjoyable AND the story continues in the Imortals series (also by Tamora Pierce) only from a different point of view. I've only read the first of those and found my self finishing it in one day..... they are GOOD!

So, if you like fantasy stories I strongly suggest going out to read this book------ It's about a girl who wants to be a knight.... pretty good!

Summary: As I think of this book, I drift into a happy nostalgia...
Review: I first saw this book in my public library when I was around seven years old. I read it, and I adored it. Now, eight years later, I am re-reading the Song of the Lioness Quartet. What is a high school student doing reading a book she read in the second grade, you might ask? I will have to answer you that I am loving it. I have read this series many times and so know most every twist and turn of the plot, but each time I come away with something new along with my happy nostalgia. These characters were throughout my childhood my alternate personae, my imaginary friends, and my key to a different world. I love these books dearly, and hope that people from years to come will, too.
