Rating: Summary: Alanna: The First Adventure is for all ages (really!) Review: Alanna, a noble girl of Tortall, knows what to expect from the life of a noble woman: first years of learning to be a Lady, then having a husband chosen for her, and having children. She knows this is not the life she wants! She loves hunting, is good with weapons, and she has the Gift~magical powers. Alanna yearns to be a Knight of Tortall. There is only one problem~no girls are accepted to be pages. She goes instead disguised as a boy! On her first day there, she makes makes new friends and enemies that will last forever. Will Alanna be discovered?? Does she even have what it takes to be a knight?? Find the answers~read the book!
Rating: Summary: Great Book....Keep writing, Tamora Pierce! Review: This book is awesome! Alanna and her twin brother Thom switch places so she can be a knight and he can become a sorcerer. THis book is a great beginning to a great series. It has some teenage content but is still a great book. I mean, what a way to tell someone to go for your dreams. No one thought that Alanna/Alan would succeed because he/she was the shortest, skinniest, weakest page in the palace but she turns out the best. THis is a great book!
Rating: Summary: The BEST! Review: I have read all the books in the Alanna series, and I think this one is my favorite! Alanna swithes places with her brother, Thom, and instead of going to the convent to learn to be a lady, she goes to the palace to learn to be a knight. BUT, she has to pretend to be a girl so they won't send her homw. As she is learning how to be a knight, she makes a few friends, George Cooper,(the thief)Jon(the prince)and a few more. Will she get her shield before she gets cought.... This is a wonderfully written book, and I would reccomend it to people of all ages.
Rating: Summary: Tamora Pierce: A brillient person Review: I have read every single book of Tamora Pierce ten times over. My favorite series is "The Song of the Lioness". It's about a girl who switches places with her twin brother Thom. She goes through hardships like defeating the Ysandir monsters to killing an evil sorcerer to nearly freezing to death to obtain an anciant treasure. I just can't take my eyes of her books. It's addicting! ... Keep writing Ms. Pierce!!
Rating: Summary: The Song of the Lioness Review: This book is SO good! I read it in a day. This was my first Tamora Pierce book, and I loved it! Here's a summary for those of you thinking about reading it: Alanna does not want to be a lady. She wants to be a knight. She sneaks of to a castle to learn how to be one. There she begins as a page, expecting to be a knight by 18. But being a knight is harder then she thought. She is smaller than the rest of the boys training to be knights(which I don't agree on scince in everyday life girls are usually hit thier growth spurt before boys) and is having a hard time coping with the lessons and fencing. Another boy is also giving her a hard time. Ralon, an older boy with an attitude, is beating her up. She does her best to hid it from her friends, and works in the free time she does not have to train to be a better fighter. She also has The Gift. She has magical powres to heal others. When her friend, Prince Jonathan, the only heir to the throne falls ill, she doesn't know how far her powers can go and if saving him will kill her.Things are constanly becoming harder for her. She is growing into womanhood. She workd hard to hid her breasts and knows that soon she will have to change her voice. Who can she tell? How will her friends act when they find out?
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read this book! Review: This series of 4 books was the best series I have ever read. The whole series is wonderful. The 3rd book is a little boring but still a good book.I loved how these books had romance, action, comedy, and were even sad at times. Once I started readig the first book I couldn't put it down.I loved how Alanna wanted to be a knight. This book opened up a whole new fanasy world for me. Alanna is the main character in this book. She and her brother Thom switch places, she goes to knight training and he goes to become a wizard and learn magic.Alanna meets bullies and even falls in love with Prince Jonathon of Tortall. And this whole time she is pretending to be a boy(Jonathon of course knows that she is a girl). She comes across problems with hiding her identity but she succeeds for the years of training. I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy.I loved how these books made the girl the strong one and had her be the hero.Alanna is a good role model because she is strong and sticks with her decisions.I know that these books definetely encouraged me to be strong and has many of my friends.SO READ THIS BOOK!IT IS EXELLENT!
Rating: Summary: a Great book Review: This book, and this series, is the best I've ever read. It tells a tale of a young girl, who wants to be a night, not a lady, but must hide her identity to do so. She goes on adventures, good and bad, fights an evil duke, and befriends a theif. She encounters friends and foe, dealing with them as they come, working harder then any other page, to earn her place as a squre, then as a knight. This series got me hooked on Tamora, and all fantasy books.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: This book was really enjoyable. It held my interst from cover to cover. With each new problem Alanna faced I was interested on how she handled each problem. This is an enjoyable series along with the immortals. I haven't been able to read any other books by this author yet.
Rating: Summary: Alanna: The First Adventure Review: I have just finished this particular series by Tamora Pierce. I absolutely loved them! They give Alanna strength and the love she needs. Beautiful. The only disappointment was when she married who she did. I thought it was a horrible choice. These books are great for people 12 on. They have a little bit of mature subject matter, but I still love them. Please do yourself a favor and read them!
Rating: Summary: Very clever! Review: This was SUCH a good book! Alanna has to go to a convent to learn "how to be a lady" and her twin brother has to go learn how to be a knight...but both of them want to go to the place where the other is going. So they switch places. Well, her brother doesn't have to go learn to be a lady...when boys go to the convent they learn to be sorcerers. Alanna loves hunting and doing things like that, and her brother loves sorcery, while socery scares Alanna and her brother hates hunting and that sort of thing. Alanna disguises herself as a boy and says she is Alan. She meets many friends, such as Prince Jonathon, the son of a noble king, and George, the King of Theives. She also meets a few enemies...such as Rolan, a bully at the palace, and Duke Roger, a mysterious uncle of Jonathon who Alan(na) insists is evil. This wonderful and action-packed book will have you laughing, shivering, crying, and rejoicing. It's a must-read for fans of Harry Potter (by J.K. Rowling), Everworld (by K.A. Applegate), Protector of the Small (by Tamora Pierce), and the Immortals (also by Tamora Pierce).
