Rating: Summary: Great story! Review: If you like magic and adventure, you'll love this book and the rest of the series. Warning!! If you read this book, you will enjoy it so much, you'll have to buy the entire series, "Alanna series, The Immortals series and Protector of the small series. Excellent author.
Rating: Summary: Yay!!!!! Review: What can I say? I love Alanna. She's a great character. This is a great beginning to the rest of the absolutely FABULOUS Song of the Lioness Quartet by the same author. It really has everything a reader needs: sorcery, combat (hehehehe!), romance... if you're looking for a good read where the characters are easy to care about, try the Lioness books. I guarantee your needs will be satisfied.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely WONDERFUL book for any age Review: When I first read the Alanna, the First Adventure I was 11 years old and it instantly became my favorite book. Set in the land of Tortall, the book tells about young Alanna, who would much rather become a knight than a sorcerer. So, disguised as a boy, she sets off to begin her training, which leads to many adventours and encounters...if you read this also be sure to readthe other books in the series, which are equally great.
Rating: Summary: Alanna the Great; Tamora Pierce the Great. Review: This quartet written by Tamara Pierce are enchanting books. My brother's best friend got this quartet from his grandmother, but not being a reader, he gave them to me, knowing I love reading. I didn't want to read them but I took them anyway and one day when I was bored, I took out the first one and fell in love with it. The plot centers around a girl named Alanna from the Fief of Trebond. About to be sent to the convent where she must learn to be a proper noble lady, she makes a switch with her twin brother Thom. Instead he goes to the convent to be a sorceror while she pretends to be a boy and goes to the Kings palace to become a knight. The plot draws you in from the first sentence and you look up halfway through the book and SURPRISE! you have been reading for hours. I strongly reccomend these books for girls 8-15. But as much as I love these books, every book has a few flaws. Everyone is too civilized for taking place in the medieval period. The men are clean, wholesome, and gentlemany while in the medieval period they were slobbering neanderthals. Most of the women were to progressive for that time. But it is easy to overlook these things and focus instead on the wonderful language, plot, and character development.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This is a GREAT book. If you love adventure, magic, and a little bit of romance this is the book for you. But is you read this be sure to read the other 3 books in the song of the lioness quartet.
Rating: Summary: Point of view from a 7th grade girl!! Review: Alanna The First Adventure, the first book in the Song of the Lioness quartet, is a really great book. Alanna of Trebond dreams of becoming a knight while her twin brother Thom would much rather be a sorcerer. They switch places in order to get what they want. Disguised as a boy, Alanna hopes to pursue her dream. This book makes you want to read every other book in the series!!
Rating: Summary: Great Beginning of a Great Series Review: Despite the fact that "Alanna" had such a common story line (a girl pretending to be a boy so she can be a knight), it was really very different. Parts of it were rather funny, like when Alanna goes nuts because her chest got bigger. I think girls would appreciate "Alanna", as it's more of a girls' book.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: This is a great book, i've read the eintire series over and over again. Tamora really has a gift. As i have read these books time and time again i have realized that they hold more that just a pleasant story. These books have helped me discover more about myself and what kind of a person i should strive to be. The books Tamora has written are great teachers for children of all ages they should be made into movies and more widely advertised. Thank you for writed such remarkable literature!
Rating: Summary: MAGNIFICENT!! Review: As soon as I read the first book of the Song of the Lioness Quartet Tamora Perce became my new favortie author. This book is a wonderful fantasy read. The characters are rich and complex. Alanna is now my new heroine. Read it, you won't regret it.
