Rating: Summary: Alanna: The First Adventure Review: In this book, Alanna of Trebond switches places with her brother Thom to go to the palace to train to be a knight and her brother to become a sorcerer. In order to do this, Alanna must lie about her identity and masquerade as a boy. Along the way to becoming a squire, she makes many friends, including George, the King of Thieves, and Prince Jonathan of Conte. The whole way it is a struggle to hide who she really is and to figure out why she is so suspicious of Jonathan's cousin, Roger of Conte. So, Alanna embarks on a journey that many have taken. Yes, it is true that many authors have had twins switch places to achieve their goals, but you also have to admit that not all of them are good books. This is a great book. It lies not completely in the content of a book that makes it good, but also in the telling of the story. Tamora Pierce had a unique way of making her characters come alive and seem so real that you can almost reach out and touch them. Personally, I loved this book. I have read it about a million times now and enjoyed it each time. I checked the whole series out from the library, and, of course, I had to return it. I love the series so much, I went out and bought the books and read them again. These are great teen fantasy books that are highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Alanna Review: ... This woman is not some damsel in distress who needs some blond, handsome nut to come save her and they get married immedietly. Alanna's story is more real than that. She has fears and she has weaknesses and she must overcome them. She does not immedietly have everything to surpass everyone. She has to work at it. She is a true heroine.
Rating: Summary: YEAH! Review: Good book it shows no matter what or who you are dreams can come true and magic is real. It shows great moral lines and it's just ... just ...CCCCOOOOOOOOLLLL it deserves 30000.123456775432211234567754287878784343465789865321125666 stars. (I'm not kidding!)
Rating: Summary: The First book in the Song of the Loiness Quartet Review: Alanna of Trebond may be young but she knows what's right for her in life. Every girl where she lives is required to live at the convent and learn to be proper ladies until they are of a marriageable age. Alanna, who has spent most of her life learning how to fight and survive knows it not for her, and her brother who dreams of being a great sorcerer, knows becoming a knight is not for him. So, on a whim, Alanna decides to pretend to be a boy and go into knight training while her brother studies to become a sorcerer. Alanna, now known as Alan, soon discovers that life in training for knighthood is far from easy. Her days are filled with studying and training. Not to mention that, Ralon, the castle bully, has decided to make her life as miserable as possible, and the troubles of just being a girl and trying to hide it. But maybe with the help of a few new friends, including the castle prince and a craftily thief, Alanna just may survive being a page. That is of course if she can keep her true sex a secret. I was delighted with this book. Tamora Pierce weaves a tale of a fantasy medieval world while breaking the boundaries of stereotypes in the process. Alanna is a wonderful heroine that everyone will grow to love. If you're a fan of fantasy books such as the Harry Potter series, or the Conjurer Princess by Vivian Van Veld, or of medieval books this is for you. I recommend this book to fans of Tamora Pierce's works and kids/YA fantasy.
Rating: Summary: (Sigh) What a WONDERFUL Book Review: This book , I thought, would be boring but it was just the opposite. I have read all of them. They have a mix of adventure and a twist of a love story on the side. after I read it I am a faithful reader of Tamora Pierce.
Rating: Summary: And I thought I was weird! Review: Alanna and Thom of Trebond don't like their future's very much, so they kind of switch places. Boys go to the palaces to be knights and girls go tto the convent to be ladies. BUT Alanna goes in disguise to the palace, and Thom gets to go and learn to be a sorcer. Alanna aka Alan has all the typical problems that girls have. She also has bully problems and she also has made an enemy of her friend- Prince Jonathan's cousin. she also saves Jon from the sweating sickness and fights the name-less ones.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful read! Review: This book is a wonderful read and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a real adventure. It is so easy to become absorbed into the book. Alanna is a character that anyone can relate to and you feel like she is your best friend. You can find yourself daydreaming about Alanna's life and wishing you could be apart of it after reading this book. The sequels to this book, and the other books by Tamora Pierce, are also wonderful and I recommend all of her books to anyone interested in fantasy! Once you read this book, you won't be able to wait until you've read the next!
Rating: Summary: Alanna Review: I think that Alanna by Tamora Pierce is an excellent book. The main character is the adventurous Alanna who trades places with her twin brother, Tom. He goes to study sorcery, while Alanna sets off on a long and difficult journey to knighthood. There is one major setback, knights must be boys. Alanna must conceal who she is until she is knighted. Becoming a knight is hard work, and Alanna would have quit if it weren't for her funny and supportive friends and servant. One reason that this book is so good is that although is takes place in another world, Alanna encounters real-life situations. Also, the characters a entertaining and the book moves quickly.
Rating: Summary: Alanna : The First Adventure Review: I have read this book 4 times and have never tired of it. It is my all time favorite book because it shows that girls can be just as good, maybe better than boys. Tamora Pierce is my role modle in writting, and I look up to her. She expresses the character's thoughts with such enthusiasm and techniqe that you can't help but get hooked. Alanna : The Firs Adventure is about a 10 year old girl that trades places with her twin brother so that she can become a knight, and her brother a sorcerer. She learns about how simalar boys and girls are, and befriends the prince. She also discovers an enemy: Ralon. He's a bully to her and all the other pages in the castle, and she has to get rid of him. A good read for all ages, Alanna : The First Adventure is a funny, well written book that will leave you spell-bound.
Rating: Summary: An Alanna for my Alanna! Review: My 12 year old daughter loved this book... My [daughter] is a tomboy so she loved the idea that Alanna was determined to follow her heart and not just be a girly girl. I was in the process of purchasing the rest of the series for her and was glad to read the reviews on them before I did.
