Rating: Summary: The 1st book to I ever wanted to reed twice. Review: Don't look now, but your not in charge of the universe any more your a dog. Your best friends found you guilty of a crime you don't even remember, they ripped you out of the sky and through you down into a four legged body. If that's not enough, from the moment you get here someone or another is trying to do you in. To make things worse the only person you can trust is a little girl, and even she can't understand you. The only help you get is form the Earth, the Sun and a fwe cats and dogs. From master of the universe to having your master tie you up in the back yard just because someone said you had a bad temper, and you can't come home until make up for your mistakes. Why don't you just smack a king on the nose with a newspaper. This book made me look at things a whole new way. The thought of world, and beings moving all around me, that I couldn't see never took on such light until I picked up this book. It gives young people a hero that is not only strong but loving and you only grow to love him more when he learns for himself that he is not perfect. Not only will a young person get to see what it is like to look through a dog's eyes but what it might be like to look through the eyes of a higher being. I can not say enough good things about this book. In no way is this book just for children. Having read it as a child an again as an adult, it just gets better. I can't wait until I have children so I can reed it to them. If ever a book should go back to print so more people could enjoy it, it is this one. If you ever looked down at your dog and wondered what he was thinking, or looked up at the night sky and thought there was something bigger out there that we are all part of, you have to reed this book.
Rating: Summary: Although written for kids, a favorite with dog-loving adults Review: Found guilty of murder by his celestial peers, the Dog Star, Sirius, is sentenced to be born on Earth as one of that sphere's mortal creatures. His mission: to retrieve the mysterious weapon he allegedly used to commit the crime. The problem is that he's been born into the body of an unwanted Lab-mix puppy, he doesn't remember who he is or why he came to this world, his only earthly protector is a mistreated little girl, and time in his short dog's life is running out. Unless Sol, Moon, and Earth themselves come to his
aid, the unknown enemy who is stalking him may ensure that Sirius never regains his immortal life.
This is a great "crossover" book--written for the juvenile/young adult market but immensely enjoyable for
dog-loving adults. The characterizations of the animals, the
humans, and the immortal luminaries are engaging, and dog owners will find themselves wondering if this is really what goes on in the minds of puppies as they learn to be dogs. That, and Jones' particular talent for weaving mythology into an otherwise mundane modern world provides for a magical-yet-believable story.
Kids: You'll love this book. Adults: Try reading it to or with your kids. Or enjoy it yourself. I've recommended Dogsbody to the more creative of my adult friends, and so far, all of them have raved about it--whether they were dog people or not.
Rating: Summary: Check out similar books Review: I agree with everyone else here in stating that you do NOT have to be a grade schooler to enjoy Diane Wynne Jones. I am 21 and still like to read some of her "kid" books now and then. If you are looking for similar texts that span the ages try The Lives of Christopher Chant, Charmed Life, A Tale of Time City, and her new adult book Deep Secrets.
Rating: Summary: A Classic, which should be enjoyed by future generations. Review: I am 30 years old, and an aspiring author, and there have been a few books which over the years have played key roles in the shaping of my style. Dogsbody is one of them. I picked the book up at a used book sale at my local Public Library when I was 12 years old, and have never let it get far out of my sight since. In fact, if there was a fire in my home, my copy of Dogsbody would be one of the treasures that would go out the door with me as I fled. Diana Wynne Jones has my eternal admiration and respect, and if you are not one of the fortunate people who have read Dogsbody, then I suggest doing what it takes to get your hands on a copy. (No matter what your age.) It is a masterpiece. (I understand that the book is out of print, but it is worth searching out.) If I may use the weapon for which Sirius searches in the book as a metaphor, then I would like to say, "May you all find your Zoi." -Rod Gray-
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I found this book in the bookstore when I was a little kid, and even though I am now 21, I still love to re-read it! My copy is dog-eared and the cover is about to come off, but I can't imagine not having this book. If something were to happen to it, I would scour the used bookstores until I found a copy. If you ever run across a copy and you like dogs, fantasy, or diana wynne jones, buy it!
Rating: Summary: Letting the next generation enjoy a classic Review: I have read and re-read this classic over the years. My niece wanted a book to read that was different from the Nancy Drew/Hardy boys type books. Before I let her borrow my copy, I read it again. I enjoy knowing she will fall in love with the same characters I did years ago.
Rating: Summary: I'm thrilled to see this book back in print! Review: I have to say I almost passed out when I saw this book on the shelf at Waldenbooks! You see, never had I imagined that Dogsbody would ever be republished (especially after all these years), and then there it was along with the Chronicles of Chrestomanci and Howl's Moving Castle! It is such an excellent story for all ages and I think it should definitely be apart of anyone's collection of favorite books--read it and you will see why!

Rating: Summary: You've gotta buy it! Amazing! Review: I myself had to buy it. When I first read this book, I checked it out from the library. I started reading it, and I couldn't put it down. It combined both of the qualities I love in books: animals, and fantasy. You can tell that Sirus really wants that Zoi! Not only does he face troubles that all dogs face [not being able to talk, trying to be free, almost never enough food, he faces un-ordinary trouble [an old friend turning against him brutaly, trying to find a suspisous icy dog, looking for the Zoi]. I wish that this book could go on and on, it was great. Anyway, just recently I checked it out again, and found that I needed it. Yesterday I bought it for myself, and I think every one should too!
