Summary: A strong series-opener
Review: Wild Magic is a great book. The storyline catches you from the beginning, and the characters are intriguing. Daine's secret is built well, and the different ways she interacts with humans and animals is well done. Readers of the Alanna books will be glad to know that the lady knight will be appearing in this series, though not as a main character. Other great new characters are Numair Salmalin, the mage, and Buri, the Queen's Rider.

Pierce's books are aimed at a strange demographic, since her main characters are usually girls and start a series around 10 years, but finish it around 18 years of age. Still, I read the Alanna books for the first time when I was about eight, and I've reread them several times (I'm 25 now). Same with The Immortals. There are often things I overlooked the first time I read it, and as I got older, other things stood out to me.

Summary: true work of art
Review: Wild Magic is the first book in the Immortals series. Our heroine, Diane, is an orphaned girl with a secret. She learns to trust herself, her magic, and her new friends. Wild Magic is a remarkable book that you won't be able to put down. Full of magic, suspense, action, friendship, and bits of humor, it's a wonderfully rounded tale. Tamora Pierce takes you on a wild and magical ride with characters, settings, and adventures that you will never forget. We journey with Daine as she comes to terms with her magic and herself and learns that, with the proper training, her magic could very well bring back balance to the world.
An excellent addition to anyone's bookshelf. It's well written and won't be easy to put down. After you read Wild Magic, go to the bookstore or library to check out the rest of the Immortals series. I know i'm repeating myself, but this is one of the most magical, emotional, and action-packed books i've ever read. It's hard to describe so go read it for yourself!

Review: Wild Magic Tamora Pierce
Book Review by Amber Thomas

Daine loves horses. When she gets a great job with a nice lady, Ouna, Daine discovers that she has a secret power. While battling creatures she doesn't even know about, Daine realizes that this power, this gift, is from her mother. But not all things are what they seem. When Daine tries using her power the green grass turns brown.
Scared, Daine doesn't know what to do.
I think that Tamora Pierce did a great job on this book. The only thing that I would change is the beginning. I would change the beginning by making it more interesting. It seemed so slow and boring. She started the book like a narrator, which I really dislike! At first I wanted to just VOMIT all over the beginning of the book because it was terrible. Then I pushed myself into the book, and it got better. Even now as I still read the book I want to just vomit on some parts since it's so boring. I think that if I were Pierce I would make the beginning more exciting.
Other than the lousy beginning I really liked the way that she gives her characters special powers. It suits them so well. I can actually visualize the characters just by her descriptions. I like their personalities because you can tell who they are and how they act at certain parts of the book. I know Ouna's personality very well now. She's brave, strong, and a good friend. Daine is brave, strong, helpful, shy and generous. I think that Tamora Pierce writes this way because this is her style. I also think that these books are for young adults. My teacher is always telling the class and I that a good beginning is a way to grab your reader. Other than the slow beginning, I think this is a great book.

Summary: The first thrilling book in the Immortals Series
Review: Thirteen-year-old Daine has always had a knack with animals and it's because of her strange gifts with her four legged friends that she gets a job taking care of horses with the K'mir Onau. Daine's talents with animals runs far deeper than any one suspects and when she meets Numair the mage she learns that she might have magic in her. Unfortunately Daine has more to worry about than this. She has to deal with her mothers death and the strange and terrifying creatures that have started to come into Tortall. They are immortals, powerful monster-like creatures that don't seem to get along with humans. Since Daine is the only one who can sense them coming, it's up to her to protect her new friends, and find out which immortals are good, or evil.

I'm a big fan of Tamora Pierce. I've read every book she has out in The Song of the Lioness, The Protector of the Small, Circle of Magic, and Circle Opens Series but I've never gotten to the immortals after a friend of mine's bad experience with the first book. But, unlike my friend, I found these books to be exciting. Daine is a great character who I can relate to very well (considering she has magical gifts and I... um don't). I was happy to see Alanna who barely shows her face in the Protector of the Small Series play still a minor, but much bigger role. And I was also happy to see George, one of my favorite characters, return for a few scenes. If you're a fan of Tortall books or anything by Tamora Pierce read this book. If the rest of the series is like this I can't wait to read them!

Summary: Wild Magic
Review: This book took me into the mind of Diane because when she tried to talk to her horse, Cloud, she forgot who she was. So...she galloped with horses as a horse not a human! And, this is what happens when I am riding the horse that I am leasing, Rodey or any horse that is galloping with me and I am on her/his back. Also, this book showed and told me how I can find my past! It is r-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-a-lly good!

Summary: Fantastic, just like all of Tamora Pierce's books
Review: Wild Magic is a great start to the quartet "the Immortals" and makes you eager to read the rest of the story. It starts when Onua, a horsemistress for Tortall, hires on an assistant - Daine - who is homeless and orphaned, concealing her past. As they begin their journey, it is apparent that Daine has a remarkable kinship with animals, talking to them as if they were human. However, she does NOT have the Gift, and grows upset when people try and imply that she does. After encountering some strange, horrible new animals, Daine rescues a strange, black bird that's like no other bird she's ever seen. As the story continues, it becomes apparent that, while Daine has no Gift, she has powers of another kind. However, her past makes her afraid to use her power too much...

I wont say anything else, I dont want to give away the story. Just buy it. It's a great book (and a great series) and if you liked the Song of the Lioness, you'll like this. While the Song of the Lioness remains my favorite quartet, this one is still worth reading.

Summary: the defining work of fantasy literature
Review: Even now, at age 13, riffling through the well worn pages of my beloved Immortals series, I wonder how it is humanly possible to write books so amazing. I've always loved fantasy, and Tamora Pierce is my favorite author, and always has been. This entire series is a must read for any fantasy nut. It's just like a good smoothie - the perfect blend of everything. Humor, adventure, a touch of romance and a whole lot of enchantment, I consider the Wild magic story one of Ms.Pierce's finest. The young girl Daine, who has the wonderful gift of animal speech, and even shape shifting, starts out as a sad orphan who's lost her family. It was wonderfull to "watch" her slowly heal, and discover herself shinig through her past. But I really felt myself connect with all the characters, and I consider that one of the most important things about novels. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a good fantasy.

Summary: How Good Can It Get?
Review: The first book in the series "The Immortals" Wild Magic is a story about Diane, a 13-year-old orphaned girl, who has an astonishing relationship with animals. Diane is hired as an assistant for Onua, a horse mistress, and is taken to the town of Pirates Swoop to help with the riders in training. While she helps train the Riders, she herself is being trained to be a mage with her wild magic, connection with animals. When the riders and the queen are attacked at the swoop, Diane is called upon to help. The plot is subtle until the end. Pierce use clues in the dialogue and setting to what will happen. The characters are very well developed throughout the book so you really get to feel like you know them, and used the plot to develop the characters, and show whom they really can be.

Summary: You'll love it
Review: This book is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it at least 6 times and I'm still not tired of it. Wild Magic has an exciting plot that's not predictable, like some of Pierce's books. In my opinion, it's the best book in the Immortals series.
