Summary: "After the Rain", was one of the best books I have ever read
Review: "After the Rain", was one of the first books I read by Ms. Norma Fox Wilder. Her story about Rachel coming into terms with her new life and dying grandfather was portrayed with much enthusiasm. I had a wonderful time reading, "After the Rain", and I believe you will too!!

Review: After The Rain by Norma Fox Mazer

Rachael is a teenage girl. She is the main character in After The Rain. Rachael's personality changes a lot during this book. Rachael is a worrier. She worries about everything. Throughout the book she wonders if Lewis, the boy she likes, will ever like her back. She also worries about other teenager concerns. I think this book really relates well to young people because it talks about many issues that they have to face. It takes Rachael's dying grandfather for her to finally realize that she shouldn't worry so much. Rachael's grandfather is a very tough, stubborn old man. He seems like a very hard person to relate to. I think that the characters in this story are very well portrayed. It makes the storyline very interesting and keeps you reading all the way to the end. It is very interesting to see if Rachael will find a way to reach her grandfather and make him understand her, and help Rachael understand herself better too.

Summary: Heartwarming and Sentimental
Review: After the Rain was an OK book. The names the author chose were a little corny, though. I mean, come on! Izzy, Helena, and Lewis Olswanger are not at the top of my list for character names. Otherwise, though, despite my name critique, the plot was good. I too have a grandfather much like Izzy--very stubborn. He also died recently. The author, Ms. Mazer, must have had someone close to her die in a similar manner (or else she is very good at fabrications!) because the death of Izzy was very, um, accurately portrayed, if I may say that. The book was great, but a little tough to get into.

Summary: Review
Review: After The Rain was written by Norma Fox Mazer. Izzy, Manny, her "Daddy", Shirley, her "Ma" Helena, her best friend, and Lewis are a few of the characters with whom the main character, Rachel, has relations. The entire book takes place in a rural countryside on the eastern coast of the United States. Rachel's grandfather, Izzy, was dying. He had contracted a terminal disease called mesothelioma. This disease usually attacks the lining of the lung and does not have a cure. Unfortunately, Izzy has the disease both on the lining of and in his lungs. Rachel, after grasping the fact that her grandfather was dying, spent more time with him before his death. She walked with Izzy almost everyday and took care of him as best she could. As Rachel got to know him, she grew to love him immeasurably. When Izzy finally became so weak he has to go to the hospital, Rachel skips school for many weeks to be with him.
I would recommend this book to another student. In fact I think that I would recommend this touching novel to anyone that could read! Norma Fox Mazer has adroitly woven the problems of a young teenage, about my age, into this novel. She created a story that seems so real, but is totally fiction. The events after Izzy died were described so vividly that tears came to my eyes, even though the vocabulary words used to illustrate the scene were only at a fifth to sixth grader's level. Because the story touched me so, I rated After The Rain five stars.

Summary: Easy to read, great experience
Review: I first read this book, as an assignment for the writing camp, where Norma Fox Mazer was the writer in residence.
And then i have met her. It was a great honor for me, and i was very surprised at the way Norma looked at everyone's work in the workshop. She was very nice, and never said that she hated the work, but instead found very interesting details about the things we wrote.
I thought that this novel was something that she wrote from her personal experiences with her grandparent. But as it turned out, it is total fiction, which really amazed me, since the book sounds so realistic, so from a young person's point of view!
If you ever get stuck in bad weather, and you want an easy read, this is definitely the choice!

Summary: AWESOME FIND!
Review: I really loved this book. I started reading it one morning and finished it that night. I just couldn't put it down. Racheal was struggling with issues that teens deal with everyday. It takes ur grandfather, a man she dis-liked because of his harsh ways, to make her wake up. Just a simple walk everyday helped her reach inside the only skin deep harshness of the man. Her grandfather has a set time to live and Racheal helps him live each day to the fullest! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a touching story!

Summary: After the Rain
Review: I think that this book is great. The main character is Rachel and one day she finds out that her gradfather is dying. When she finds this out she starts to go on his daily walks with him. The setting of this book is in a rural countryside. I think that the author could have given more details on when Rachel said she got a feeling to stay at the hospital. I think that the author gave this book great details and made it seem like it really happened. I would recommend this book to people my age or any age at all because it shows that bad things do happen and you can't do anything. I would recommend this book for a teacher to read to her class because it has great background and it would be great to do a class talk on. If you want to read a great book that is funny, sad, and true to life then you should read After the Rain!
