Summary: My Review for "I Had Seen Castles"
Review: The book "I Had seen Castles" is an exciting novel By Cynthia Rylant. It is about a young man, named John Dante, who loved a castle toy set when he was little. Now he can't wait until his 18th birthday to enlist for World War 2. John's father is called away to a secret nuclear plant and is missed very much by John. But then he meets the most perfect girl named Ginny. She is totally against the war. Ginny tries to change John's mind, but her efforts fail, and he goes into the war. On the battlefield, John sees a castle, but he hates what he sees that is going on all around it. People are being shot and killed and blown to pieces. John returns home from the war, to find Ginny gone. It is a terrible loss in his life. He feels he has to move to France, where people understand what happened. From there he moves to Toronto. He wishes to say to Ginny, "I want you to know that I am really alive. And I still love you." It is a short story with a good point and a great ending.

Summary: Michelle's Review
Review: The book I Had Seen Castles is probably one of the best books i've ever read. The author definitely gave you a feelin that you were right there with the characters. This short novel is waht i will absolutely call good literature.

Cynthia Rylant was giving he inside message of the war. She made it feel like the main caharacter, John, took your hand and brought you through a journey of his life in the 1940's. How he grew up in Pittsburgh, to his first love, and to the war. This book may not be that long, but youn get very descriptives visions of the war. The main characters said while he was in war, " The pictures in Life may have shown suffereing and death to the people back home, but they never showed dismemberment." This book takes you farther than what you see in the news and books, it takes you to the point you get a chill down your spine.

When my friend gave me this bok, i thought it was going to be another boring war book, but i was way off. This is definately a book you never want to stop reading. The character seem so real and their emotions are so intense. You actually feel for the characters, thei pain, suffereing, and loss. I never would expect such a short novel would be this good. I would definately recomend this to anyone whoe wants to read a book that isn't too long, and tos oembody who never knew what war was beyond Life and Time magazine.

Summary: If you read only one book this year, let it be this one!
Review: The emotions of a time period and the journey of adulthood begins in one brief moment for John as war and love surround him. If you are fascinated by WWII, or believe in first love then this is the book you've always waited to read. Short and concise, yet more powerful than any other story I've read. I'm buying copies for all the readers in my family! You won't be disappointed.

Summary: A man's experience in the army.
Review: This book is a good novel about a man's experiences during WWII in the U.S. army. It also talks about his experiences long after the war. During the actual fighting he recalls scenes and experiences he remembers. The actual amount of fighting and time spent during the war is relatively small compared to the rest of the book, however his experiences echo in his mind for the rest of his life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes war novels.

Summary: Stunning
Review: This is one of thoes books that profoundly changes the reader. Told with a striking simplicity, "I Had Seen Castles" has a wonderfully stong anti-war message. I have read "The Greatest Generation," but this book taught me more about the emotions behind WWII than any other book I have read. I recommend this book very highly. I think it should be made part of high school curiculum.

Summary: Simple, yet powerful
Review: Wonderful book that accurately and vividly captures the profound impact of World War II on the young men who fought and on their families. Painful and powerful. Illustrates the cost of the war for sons, sisters, mothers, and fathers. Reminiscent of All Quiet on the Western Front with American perspective. Short but heart piercing. Highly recommended.
