Rating: Summary: unbeliveably real and well detailed Review: The book is definetly one of my new favorites. It can easily be compared to the great writes of Dickens, Poe, Shakespear. With a fairy tale esque setting and well developed characters, Weetzie Bat tells the story of modern troubles and fun. What I notice most about the book was that it described where and what they ate constantly. I loved te details, it made the story so real. I can't wait to read the other Weetzie Bat books!!!
Rating: Summary: READ THIS AWESOME BOOK! Review: I just read this book and it is amazing. You have to read it. Weetzie Bat is a cool girl in a cool world! It's undescribable! I'd say more, but my heart is fluttering. . .
Rating: Summary: So good, it is almost perfect! Review: I've never been to LA (although now I want to go), but still I found the plot of WEETZIE BAT to be a little farfetched. But that didn't matter--the book is about character, acceptance, love and happiness. It teaches the reader about getting along with every different type of person and how to dream. I would reccomend this book to every reader, young and older (I am 21) to open eyes and warm hearts.
Rating: Summary: Bloody odd Review: This controversial classic's odd style has often been mistaken for good writing. It isn't. Yet amazingly, we manage to feel real sympathy for some of these characters through the mess of fragmentary sentences in this ridiculous world of privilege and flippancy. Quite a feat.
Rating: Summary: a must read Review: lanky lizards this was such a slinkster cool book. I have read it so many times the cover is falling off. i think it is good for kids my age to have their eyes opened to other places besides their safe, snug, and secure home. this is something that you have to read and have a very active imagination to understand and enjoy the book completely. lik i said it is a must read.
Rating: Summary: a beautiful story=> must read!!! Review: when i first began to read the book, Weetzie Bat seemed very.... different, however i love the style and i think that it is a lovely book. i could read it numerous times and never get sick of it.
Rating: Summary: A Truly Wonderful Story. Review: This book opens the series that has long since become my favorite. Block's eccentric, yet expressive use of language had me hooked from day one. Block creates a fairy tale on the streets of L.A. while including subject matter that some find offensive, such as teen sex and pregnancy, and homosexual love. Instead of sounding preachy, a definate turn-off to many a young reader, Ms. Block, through the eyes of Weetzie, her heroine, finds the light and love that permeates through the tough times as well as the happy ones. The book is a heartlifting celebration of humanity in the sometimes wild, sometimes dangerous City of Angels. While not quite my favorite book in the series,(a distinction which belongs to "Witch Baby") "Weetzie Bat" is still one of my favorite books overall. I first read these books when i was fourteen or fifteen. Now a few months away from the big 20, i thank Ms. Block and her books for helping me survive the teenage years. I would definately recommend the "Weetzie Bat" series to anyone in need of hope and beauty.
Rating: Summary: The quintisensial LA book Review: This book defines how I have always felt about Los Angeles. Although brief the book is charming and its simplistic characters bring light to the city. In 88 pages Block's nostalgic imagery shows Los Angeles as a city of dreams as opposed to simply the mecca of the movies. A great read!
Rating: Summary: a sweet, quirky romance! Review: my friend lizzie let me borrow her copy of this book, which was a special edition. I loved it so much. it was a little confusing, but very descriptive and with great dialogue. i'm going to buy my own copy plus all of her other books. i love a good romance, and this is definitly a good romance.
Rating: Summary: Utter stupidity... A meaningless piece of non-fiction Review: I have never understood the Francesca Lia Block craze. Her writing is stitled and shallow, with extended metaphors and surrealistic descriptions to try and give it a greater sense of depth. Fact is it is silly trash, with no substance no soul, no heart. Oddly enough, I've read that originally the book was supposed to be an adult novel, but when no adult publisher would pick it up, Harper Row decided it could be a children's book. What a statement on YA literature, that it can have the rejects of the adult market. AND NOW... I've recently learned that Harpercollins is planning on re-releasing Weetzie Bat for it's 10th anniversary... It is going to be marketed as an adult title. EARLY WARNING, readers don't be fooled by whatever they slap on the cover this book is still the same trite piece of junk it always was!!
