Summary: A modern fairy tale
Review: About a year ago I picked up this book, read the first chapter and passed it off as too strange. I had no idea what a big mistake I was making. I picked this up again a few days ago and was shocked on how good it was. Weetzie bat tells the story of Weetzie and her adventures in life and love. She lives an average life until she gets three wishes from a genie and all of them come true. Though the writing is escentric the situations are very real under the surface. If your a fan of her other writings, especially the Rose and the Beast, you'll love this book. I'm sure to read the rest of the books in the entire series.

Summary: good for the young reader, but not for the mature reader
Review: The first time I read this, I was a sophmore in high school- I loved it (I also loved the sequels). Then I made the mistake of re-reading it when I was a bit older. The writing style annoyed me and it seemed to me as if the author was trying too hard to be original. My advice is read this book when you're young,it's a fun read, but eventually move on to better things and don't look back.

Summary: A Great Read!!
Review: I love to read, and am a big FLB fan. After Girl Goddess #9,Dangerous Angels was my next read. ... Weetzie Bat was the best. I loved it. It was so simple, yet so complex.

Summary: Great view of the alternative family
Review: The first of the Weetiz Bat series is a cut above the other volumes, perhaps because of the empesis on the redefinition of the family. The fairy tale quality of the book serves as a good intoduction to the concepts of Magical Realism for those readers unfamiliar with the technique. A quick read, I could recomend this to any one interested in Young Adult fiction, or just a fun little book.

Summary: Essential reading for mature teens
Review: I found the Weetzie Bat books later in my teens than most but it's not just a young adult book as it is always classified. The story is such a romantic, modern day fairy tale that anyone should be able to fall in love with these characters.

Block has a way with words like no other author I've found. She has a way of painting a picture of the people, their feelings and places... you can honestly see the story in your head.

I'd particularly suggest this book to teens that don't like reading because they can't relate to any of the books out there. The series which is really more like one novel, is broken into 5 books so it appears less intimidating to tackle.

Summary: How can you not love this book? Homophobia?
Review: Some of those who have shared their opinions here do not like Weetzie Bat because of it's immorality, improbable plot, and strange character names. It is exactly those people which this book attempts to save from their own boring, convservative hell. For those concerned with the sexual orientation of two of the main characters, Dirk and Duck's lives and relationship is in some ways very accurate for the time. People need to understand that the 80s were not an easy time for Gays, and their seemingly deplorable behavior was their last ditch attempt at finding love. if is improbable that under these circumstances Dirk and Duck would have found each other, but I find it beautiful and encouraging that they did.

Homosexuality aside, people need to understand that this book is of the FANTASY genre. For me, this is a book with which I can sit down and be absorbed into another world. One where people don't care about who I love, and where I can appreciate the little things that make Los Angeles a beautiful city, and make me proud to make it my home.

This is a great book for gay teenagers, especially ones like me who want to find true love. But it is an incredible book for everyone, and I've yet to meet (in real life) a person who dislikes it.

Summary: All Bat, No Cattle
Review: Weetzie Bat is an exercise in fashion. And, as Coco Chanel reminded us over and over again, fashion passes, and style remains. Block sacrifices dialogue, character development, theme, and depth on the altar of modern and "edgy" subject matter and self-indulgently fashionable prose. What's left, once the sound and fury of her peculiar way of telling a story ends, is...not much. Not much in the way of character, not much in the way of characters acting believably, not much in the way of characters having voices...not much in general. Readers seeking a novel of style in the same fairy tale mold are urged to consider William Goldman's THE PRINCESS BRIDE. Believe me, I am in favor of edgy material: I loved TRAINSPOTTING and SMACK. But this? I shrug my shoulders and say, who cares?

Summary: One of the most edgiest books to ever be written
Review: This book is a must for every teenager. While some are disguisted with the book (whether it is the writing style or content), it's filled with things that real people face in the real world every day. Teenagers shouldn't be kept in the dark just because some people think the content is too mature for them. The people who believe that are the same people who are afraid to face what's really going on with our world today. This book should be required reading for every teenager.

Summary: a stunning display!
Review: After reading the Weetzie Bat series along with most other Francesca Lia Block novels, i have concluded that Weetzie Bat is one of the best! Block's writing style makes reading fun and easy for the young and old! She covers important topics that not only should be read, but also discussed by parent and child. These topics include the dangers of drugs, alcohol and sex. Some thirteen year olds *eh-hem* may feel a little uncomfortable and awkward reading this material, but maybe that is just because they are not yet mature enough to handle it. This book has deeply efected my life!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Fabulous Book!
Review: After reading every single one of Francesca Lia Block's books, I believe that the Weetzie Bat series (Dangerous Angels) is one of the best. Her writing style is the most unique that I have ever encountered. She deals with issues that are important to talk about, such as homosexuality, AIDS, drugs and love. When finished with the book, I had a new and better outlook on life.
