Rating: Summary: The truth about this book... Review: ...is that it's WONDERFUL. I've read every one of Dessen's books, and while DREAMLAND is still my favorite, this one is now at a close second. The way Dessen is able to write a teenager so perfectly amazes me everytime I pick up one of her books. I can't ever put them down and when I must, it seems as thogh it is calling my name.Macy is trying to deal with her father's death a year and a half ago by controlling everything she can, and trying to have everything perfect: perfect boyfriend, perfect grades, perfect job... Perfect life. Then she gets drawn into the world of Wish Catering, where they live in chaos and imperfection -- and LIKE it. Through her new friends, she learns that maybe perfection is not always the best thing, and she learns to greive her father for the first time in months. Read this book. You will not regret it at all.
Rating: Summary: The Truth About Forever. Review: I am a huge fan of Sarah Dessen. She is truly a wonderful author and knows how to make a person visualize. The Truth About Forever is about a girl named Macy who sadly lost her father right in front of her eyes. She is in most parents eyes the perfect child. She gets great grades, has a brainy boyfriend and a job at the local library. This all changes when she sends an email to her boyfriend who is in "braincamp". She signs it Love Macy which apparently makes her a clingy girlfriend even though they've been dating for over a year. Anywho her boyfriend tells her he thinks they need a break and she decides to go out for a ride and winds up joining a catering company. She really grows with these people and though they are different from her usual friends they teach her more than her usual friends ever taught her. This book keeps you reading, its compelling, stylish, funny, a tear-jerker and even witty. Dessen shines as an author.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent Dessen book Review: I just wish Sarah Dessen would write a book every week. This one is just as good as her others, and I loved the little hints in this book that pointed to her other books. This book deals with grief and parents and boyfriends and all the things teens have to do deal with. Other good teens books are: Durable Goods, A Girl in Parts, An Egg on Three Sticks. Sarah Dessen is one of the best writers out there!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: I love all of Dessen's books & this one does not disappoint. I could not put it down & found the characters incredibly relatable. In short, I loved this book. A must-ready for all of Dessen's loyal readers & anyone else interested. The occasional references to past Dessen characters made the book even better.
Rating: Summary: The Truth - It's Great! Review: I loved this book! This was the first book I had read by Sarah Dessen, and afterwards I read This Lullaby and it did not even come close to The Truth About Forever. All the characters are so real, and the story is amazing. I was impressed at how parallel this story is to real life - life can't be planned, it just happens. The story follows Macy as she grieves over her father's death, and how Macy changes because of it. The story is woven beautifully, so much so that I cried, and several times. One of my new favorites.
Rating: Summary: This is an AMAZING book Review: I've read most of Sarah Desson's novels and enjoyed all of them. But this is her best yet. 17 year old Macy witnessed her father's death. She has put her emotions on ice and surrounds herself with people that can't really touch her. Instead she puts all her energy into getting good grades and behaving perfectly. When her boyfriend goes to camp for the summer she finds herself with a job she hates and her relationship with Jason on hold. When Wish catering caters one of her mother's parties she meets Kristy a girl with a love of life and fun despite being scarred by a car accident she was in with her mother at a young age, Bert a odd but brillant teenager who drive an old ambulace around, Delia forgettful and pregnant owner of Wish catering, Monica the clumsy and monotone sister of Kristy and ... Wes a boy she finds many connections and the first peson she feels she can really be herself around. Eventually she finds herself with a job there and for the first time her emotions sart to thaw. Her mother not liking the change in macy forbids her to see her new friends. Macy reacts by withdrawing into her shell again and only comes out after a series of things that you'll have to read the book to find out about.
Rating: Summary: the truth is this book will forever be a favorite Review: if you want the plot look below but this book is touching. its something that would be made into one of those movies where you love the characters and the love plot. i did not run into one line where i thought "how cheesy"..there were some i will admit that werre iffy but they carried along the story with its distict charm. everyone wants to be perfect once and awhile thats why this book apeals. and everyone wants someone who dosnt want there opposite to be perfect. everyone wants to find themselves and have others accept and no one wants to lose a loved one. this book is all around enticing. it brings out emotions and uses every tone you thought possible. i love books you can relate to and this one hits the spot. its exactly what it needs to be and no joking a shiver ran through my back as i read the last two chapters. its exactly how you want to fall in love and the main character has you rooting for her even when she messes up big time...good book! two thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: beautiful and lyrical Review: In the first pages of this first book I have read by Sarah Dessen, I was hooked. No, it is not the deepest read ever, but the writing is smooth, luminous, and completely takes you away. The characters are as real to you, by the time the book is done, that they are almost like the friends you know in real life. The Truth about Forever is a wonderful book, a story that just leaves you desperately wanting more of it.
Seventeen-year-old Macy Queen's father died two and a half years before this book begins, and Macy was there. His loss haunts her inescapably, but she shields her grief, as does her mother, behind busyness: keeping up her grades, doing yoga, and talking to her intelligent, distant boyfriend, Jason. When Jason leaves for "Brain Camp", Macy feels terribly alone: her mother is constantly working, the girls at the info desk in the library, where she works, are exclusive, and worst of all - Jason breaks off their relationship after, at the end of an email, Macy had the nerve to write the word "love". Desperate for something to distract her, Macy signs on to a job with Wish Catering, and her life and her summer are changed.
The chaos of the disorganized crew at Wish is a welcome relief, and soon enough Macy finds herself fully enjoying the job. Plus, there are several quirky and lovable new people that enter her life: Delia, the kind, somewhat frazzled, pregnant woman who owns Wish; Kristy, the blonde partier who's forever on the lookout for an "exceptional guy"; Monica, Kristy's lethargic but apparently deep sister; Bert, a strange guy with an unusual scientific interest in the end of the world; and, of course, Wes, the beautiful, artistic, formerly-convicted boy with whom everyone, including Macy, is secretly in love.
Slowly, as the summer unfolds, Macy comes out of her protective shell against the pain of grief and begins to live again, with the help of these extraordinary characters that, once you close the covers of this book, will surely miss.
Rating: Summary: What IS the truth about Forever? Review: Like all of Dessen's amazing and bittersweet novels, The Truth About Forever adds another beautiful layer to what is turning out to be an amazing career cake. It really connects with the idea with grief, and follows the main character through many emotions... but it's not even about the plot that makes the novel good. It the style of the writing. The laid back, quick, fluid writing that carries the reader on page after page. It's so expressive, so realistic, and so meaningful -- something that only great authors can portray. Buy it. NOW. Also, watch out for little tidbits that come from other novels of Dessen's. There are little refrences from her other books that make it even better.
Rating: Summary: Another great offering from Sarah Dessen... Review: Macy likes being in control and being organised. Her boyfriend, Jason, is perfect - and has the emotional IQ of an amoeba. Neither she nor her mother have really got over the sudden death of her father a year and a half previously, and go around insisting that they're "fine". After Jason breaks up with her, via email, Macy accepts the offer of a job at Wish Catering, which ends up changing her summer and indeed her life. Surrounded by chaos, she starts to learn that things don't always have to be perfect, and embraces her newfound friends - the style-mad boy-crazy Kristy, Monotone Monica, obsessing-over-the-end-of-the-world Bert, and the artistic and rather attractive Wes. Through games of Truth she and Wes learn a lot more about each other, and she finally opens up about her father's death, and eventually learns to grieve. Like Dessen's other novels, this deals with an Issue - loss - but does so as part of telling a much more complex story. This is also a story about embracing imperfection, about family, about friendship, about love. And about meatballs.
