Rating: Summary: Intelligence Required Review: Warning: This book not for stupid people! Those six words sum up how I feel about a couple of the comments in this reviews section. In summation, this book is an abstract way at looking at the pillars people stand on in dealing with social pressures of growing up - this is not a lifemap to be taken literally - it is a beautiful way to describe through fantasy very real life situations - from sexuality to drugs to dealing with loss. For those parents who are disappointed in the book due to it's content, I very easily can tell you that it is not a children's book -- at 22 I had to re-read the first page to understand what it was saying. One must understand the style of the writing to understand the book. I give this book a heralded two thumbs up, and as a Ph.D. in literature, I have no problem recommending this book to anyone who possesses the imagination and perseverance to plunge in!
Rating: Summary: To dissuade you from the 3 bad reviews out of 51 good ones.. Review: First of all, this book was intended for young adults, so OF COURSE it may seem like simple language. As an avid reader of 14 years old, i discovered this book & of course fell in love with it. Now, at 17, i own it & still read it. Why? Because it's an escape. It makes me feel happy, & hopeful, & like there's some meaning left in the world. It is written in Block's own unique style, so don't be surprised when the sentences "don't relate" to each other. Her style is like beat poetry, with a some fairy tale/street life tossed in. The books are very childlike, & manage to deal with "mature" subject matter in an innocent way. For instance, they are pro-safe sex & anti-drug use. Of course not everyone will like them-there has never been a book that EVERY SINGLE PERSON liked. I'd recommend buying it for your teenager, especially if it's a girl because they tend to be less cynical about "magic".
Rating: Summary: Imagery for the bold Review: In the collection of novels in the book, "Dangerous Angels," by Francesca Lia Block, you are surrounded by the Bat family. A strange collaboration of homosexuals, children, and slammin dreamers. This book proves that it isn't what is in the blood that counts, but what does is the meental bond between people. An almost revolutionary novel, Dangerous Angels, goes beyond boundaries including the magical, sensational, and unbelievable. This novel will touch everyone's hearts from the music lovers with the in depth look at the Goat-Guys, to those in touch with nature with Coyote and his animal friends. "Dangerous Angels," is a great book that flies you into L.A. with all of the slam and glam, devils and angels and makes you feel like you are there smelling the jacaranda blossoms and hugging a joshua tree. Take it on head first and you won't be able to set it down.
Rating: Summary: So much more then just a book Review: If I could I'd give this book a billion stars I would!! This is the BEST book I've ever read (and I'm a very avid reader). It doesn't fit a mold like so many other books I've read. Each time I've re-read it I've noticed something different. I think any teenager would enjoy this book!
Rating: Summary: Lanky lizards! Review: Every book was better then the last. made me realize how important family really is. great read!
Rating: Summary: five billion stars Review: I wanted to cry when this book was over-but instead I just read it again, and again. When you read this book you feel like you're there watching the slinkster cool family living in LA which fracesca lia block paints vividly. This is my favorite book!
Rating: Summary: Mystical and Slinkster Cool Review: Love is a Dangerous Angel. Pretty true as most anyone can tell you. The five stories that make up Dangerous Angels are magical fairy tales that are still true to life. Hard to believe right? But it's true. These tales don't just show you the transcendent beauty of love, but also it's dark under belly and the pain that can go hand in hand with love. I didn't think that at 20 I'd like these stories. But I was wrong and I proudly admit that I am now hooked on Francesca Lia Block. Her words mesmorize you and pull you deep into the stories. My favorite has to be Witch Baby, but I love them all.
Rating: Summary: Amazing and Beautiful Review: People have asked me what this book is about, and I have no reply. It is a story about life, a story about poeple and a story based completely in reality. ... Yes, her style is unconventional, but in NO WAY is it dumbed down. She has an amazing, unique, poetic style all her own which is one of my favorite aspects of the book. You won't waste your money if you buy this book, it is for all ages.
Rating: Summary: Mystical and magical. Love is a dangerous angel Review: This is a truly beautiful book. I learned the meaning of love, and of family. This book opened a world up to me, not the perfect nuclear families seen on tv, but a puzzle ruggedly fit together, but still happy. The intertwining lives of the charecters is expressed in such a mystical glamourous way, and it all seems to make sense. It is the story of people whos live are connected by a thread of love. I cannot even begin to explain what this book meant to me. It has changed me, it let me see in a new light, through tilty purple eyes or pink tinted sunglasses. It talks about the things that teens really are worried about today, but it has a powerful meaning. It talks about: family, love, sexuality, predjudice, inter racial-dating, dating. It uses magical language, the one word i think of when i think of francesca lia blocks writing style is Mysticla. This book is powerfull and beautiful. Love is a dangerous angel.
