Summary: An entoxicating tale of love
Review: I loved the first of the five books, i dont know why it simply appealed to me the most. Though 'Witch Baby' i liked as well.

Weetzie Bat is about a teenager who meets a fellow teenager named Dirk who is trying to find love also. Weetzie seems to always go for the wrong guys and Dirk can never find the right 'duck' for himself either. Weetzie's parents divorced so she's always at Dirk's grandma Fifi's house. In the end of the book Fifi gives Weetiz a magical lamp containing a genie. Weetzie wishes for a Secet Agent Lover Man for herself and a Duck for Dirk, then a slinkster house for them to live in. And of course Weetzie meets a man named My Secret Agent Lover Man, and Dirk meets Duck. Fifi dies right after the wishs were made and leaves them the house.

In Witch Baby My Secret Agent Lover Man doesn't want a kid, so Weetzie jumps in bedwith Dirk and Duck. A baby comes but they have no idea if its My Secret Agent Lover Man's, Dirk's, or Duck's. My Secret Agent Lover Man's leaves and comes back but there's a Lanka stalking him, it seems that she a [messed] up person who seduced him and now wants the money for an abortion, but she leaves Witch Baby as the come to call her on Weetzie's doorstep. the rest of that book is about Witch Baby trying to find love, and her mother.

Cherokee and the Goat Guy's is about Cherokee and her band and how the take advantage of animals and the gifts they give.

Missing ngel Juan is about Witch Baby's boufriend Angel Juan, who leaves her for the city to find himself, and make his own things. Witch Baby follows him and meets her grandfather harlie Bat (who of yeah died of an overdose)But she meets his ghoust and they go around the city looking for Angel Juan.

Baby Be-Bop i found the least interesing of the stories. I centered completely on Dirk, his family, and Duck. And how Dirk and Duck came to be gay. After being brutally beat by some prejuduced guys callig him a [names], Fifi gives Dirk the lamp that she will later on give to Weetzie. He rubs the lamp and his Great-grandmother appears and tells her story, then Dirk's father and mother appear and tell their's. And then he tells his story, of the boy named Pup who left him behind and other events in his life. Then the story turns to Duck, who also has a story. In the end Duck and Dirk find each other and it's like happily ever after.

Even though i thought some parts ran on, i could not part my eyes from the pages. It took me less than two days to read this book of 478 pages and trust me, i am no speed reader.

Summary: The best collection of stories anywhere
Review: I began reading the Weetzie Bat Books with "Baby Be-Bop" and I have been hooked ever since. I cannot believe how realistically touching that all the books are. They all have their own messages of hope and love, but as the title says, "Love is a dangerous angel" and this book proves that. I absolutley love every minute that I spend reading this book and I will read it over and over...

Summary: beyond words
Review: Sometimes there are just no words to describe Francesca Lia Block's books. If you are a fan or just beginning to discover Francesca, you HAVE to own this compilation of the Weetzie Bat Series. It is so beautiful and surreal you will treasure it. In my opinion, everyone should own a copy!

Summary: Grrl-punk faerie-tale w/a twist of magic & could be reality
Review: Dangerous Angels has got to be the best book I've ever read. It is a compilation of Ms. Block's 5 Weetzie Bat Books put in basic chronological order. It is a book for a dreamer who believes in magic and reality all at the same time, who can put their faith in true love and still trust that the heart will be broken, who lives a life of metaphors and poetry but still communicates. It is an enrapturing book, and everyone that I have shared the book with has loved it. Read and enjoy, there is no better author out there!

Summary: Being a witch baby myself...
Review: Francesca Lia Block has written a speelbinding book (actully five are contained in the bindings). These modern day fairy tales all are touching and real (well sorta). The storys deal with sex, homosexuality, love, the need to fit in, and a little bit of magic. No matter who you are, or where you're from you will find someone to relate to, and love in these storys. All of storys happen in differnt time of Weetzie Bat, and her freinds lives. After reading this book, the want to say "slinkster", go "duck hunting", and move ot LA will over power you.

Summary: Simple? In the Same Way Poetry is Simple.
Review: Francesca Lia Block achieves in a few pages a depth of characterization some authors can't get across in an entire book. She does so with a stylized way of writing some have criticized as too simple. I couldn't disagree more. Her short, snappy sentence structure I found reminiscent of beat poetry, highlights of the environment that are the small, important details in these characters' lives.

The way she turns the fairytale archetype on its head, too, is great fun. By page 30, all of the characters are living happily ever after. The rest of the book (really a collection of books) explores what it means to live happily ever after. It's decidedly not without its rough patches.

While the stories are very upbeat, optimistic and full of love, Block still effectively conveys those bugaboos of young adult life -- social anxieties of fitting in, popularity, life as a stepchild, falling in love and finding oneself -- with stunning symbolism. I don't think I'll ever forget the creepy coven of the Jane Mansfield Fan Club or Witch Baby's finding the chilling horrors of mannequin figures frozen in attitudes of excruciating emotion.

The 'young adult' category of the book should be thought of more as a recommendation on the minimum maturity level of the reader than an age suggestion. There are indeed some adults in the book facing adult situations, but Block does not let anyone off the hook: there are serious consequences to serious actions.

In short, the power of this book should not be underestimated. One should not confuse a simple writing style for simple ideas. When Block writes that love is a dangerous angel, she allows the reader to figure out what that means without using pages and pages of purple prose. I find it refreshing that she treats the reader intelligently.

Summary: It is offical - I adore Miss Francesca Lia Block!
Review: I love every little overwritten sentence. Every little unrealistically beautiful and eccentric character.

I just love the magic of every thing that my newest favourite author says, and whilst I apperciate that absolutely nothing she says has a great deal of realism to it, I cannot put her books down. I would suggest that no one can, and thus I think you should consider picking one up.

This being my second Lia Block novel/s, I think it is a fine place to start, and has an innocence that my first read, 'Violet and Claire', was lacking. Nevertheless, it was more sophisticated and technically, more impressive.

Whilst the story line is far fetched, Lia Block makes the world is full of love and hope and all things slinsterlicious.
She is cool and creative, and her books reflect a more youthful approach to magic realism. I will be reading this one again, and purchasing all those I am so far missing before too long. I suggest you do the same. You are never too old for these books.

Of course, as all things, they are almost unavailable here in Australia, so don't get too excited Aussies.

Summary: BEST!!!
Review: This is the best book I've read in a LONG time. It combines the surrealism of fantasy with a modern punky vibe...everthing is perfect down to the vocabulary. I love Francesca Lia Block, and her lilting, tender style is perfect for young adults. If you want something fresh and different, this is for you! I hope more edgy-fantasy comes out like this.

Summary: poetic and powerful
Review: This book, a collection of the Weetzie Bat novels, is original and exotic. The stories take place mostly in Los Angeles, which Block paints as a fairyland where genies grant wishes and ghosts are seen through camera lenses. The poetic descriptions are arousing to the senses and the fairy-tale stories of love, pain, and acceptance are touching to the heart and mind. The characters are people anyone can relate to, and all the main characters are three-dimensional and interesting. This is a beautifully written book of stories that read like poems or love letters, and all hold valuable lessons about the power of nature, love, and the strength that resides within all of us.
