Rating: Summary: I got no words... Review: Yep, I can't find the right words to describe these novels (finally collected in a single volume, yay!) Let's try anyway... magic, day-glo colors, love, teen angst, a Shangri L.A., tormented/cool characters, lust for life, respect for death... I guess I could go on ranting 'n raving for hours. If you're a teen, buy this book NOW. If that's not the case, grab a copy of DANGEROUS ANGELS even sooner. And puh-leeze, do forget all that new age crapola: Lia Block's novels ARE real good food for your soul, your mind, whatever.
Rating: Summary: Tales Of The Super Rad. Review: The Weetzie Bat books were one of the reasons I got through my teenage years! The stories are lyrically and beautifully written by Ms. Block. Though whimsical and fairylike, almost everyone I know can relate to the subject matter and feel very deeply about the charecters. This is a collection for all ages but makes an even more perfect gift for girls to teens!!!
Rating: Summary: This book was slinkster-cool. Review: I'm 13 and I just started reading books by BLOCK. I have to say I'm very impressed, though. She writes like no other and says things that seem to mean one thing, but really makes you think about something else. Her words paint an awesome picture of these people's lives, feelings and expressions. I feel like I know them myself. My favorite book WEETZIE BAT and I would definately reccomend it to anyone with a desire to read something new.
Rating: Summary: like a teddybear or a blanket, i can't let go of these books Review: francisca lia block captures all the odd little feelings of growing up, feeling like an outsider, falling in love, and living in l.a. like no one else ever has. reading like a comic book, both in it's colorful descriptions and short length, each book packs an surprisingly powerful emotional punch. scaring away most ADULT HETERO readers, this book is often miscategorized as young adult or gay/lesbian. BUT THESE BOOKS ARE FOR EVERYONE. anyone who's ever struggled with coming of age, that is.
Rating: Summary: Amazing and moving Review: I am a longtime Block fan, so i was thrilled to see this 5-book volume. the weetzie books are beautiful in their simply told, fairy-tale way, and often seem surreal and dream-like. the 5 stories are wonderful read individually, but as a group they are powerfully moving and tend to give me an emotional high. "witch baby", in particular, has affected me emotionally no matter how many times i read it. this collection, though great for everyone, seems to have a special power and meaning for the gay/lesbian community- i know i, for one, was helped through my struggle to accept myself by the weetzie books. these books can be an inspiration to us all.
Rating: Summary: The best coming-out books I have ever read...beautiful.... Review: The Weetzie Bat Books are not properly categorized. While they would definately be enjoyed by "Young Adults", people of all ages would enjoy them,as well as learn alot about life and love. I am 32 and have reread them many times and never tire of them. Ms. Block is a gifted and passionate storyteller whose books read like some magical poetry written by a Princess...Read these books and they will lighten your heart. They deal with the crucial coming out issues many young gays and lesbians face, but without the drama...instead the drama is replaced with love and compassion.
Rating: Summary: good Review: Well i havent quite finished this book yet... but so far it is kinda confusing. It is a really good book tho. It has love in different kinds of places. It tells about homosexuals, regular love, and different kinds of things about finding yourself and who you are. But i do plan on reading this book fully. It seems very good and the author is great. I plan on reading Girl Goddess #9.
Rating: Summary: To dissuade you from the 3 bad reviews out of 51 good ones.. Review: First of all, this book was intended for young adults, so OF COURSE it may seem like simple language. As an avid reader of 14 years old, i discovered this book & of course fell in love with it. Now, at 17, i own it & still read it. Why? Because it's an escape. It makes me feel happy, & hopeful, & like there's some meaning left in the world. It is written in Block's own unique style, so don't be surprised when the sentences "don't relate" to each other. Her style is like beat poetry, with a some fairy tale/street life tossed in. The books are very childlike, & manage to deal with "mature" subject matter in an innocent way. For instance, they are pro-safe sex & anti-drug use. Of course not everyone will like them-there has never been a book that EVERY SINGLE PERSON liked. I'd recommend buying it for your teenager, especially if it's a girl because they tend to be less cynical about "magic".
Rating: Summary: Beautifully Written Review: This book is a must for every teenager to read!Francesca Lia Block's writing is so mystical and interesting, you feel like your there standing next to the characters.Dangeruos Angels is the collection of the Weetzie Bat books, about love, hate, holding back and letting go.About finding yourself in the world. When I started this book,I couldn't put it down,it was so real. Before you buy any other book, buy Dangerous Angels, you'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: The Face on the Milk Carton Review: some seem to think that this book is poorly written but its really just the poetic style of the book. everything is written to flow. i know that some just dont get it and think that this book is just too out there for them, but for others, especially me this book is wonderful in a way that cant be found in other books. it seems to be the style of F.L. blocks writing, as i have read almost all of her books. would recommend "echo" if you liked this book
