Rating: Summary: Review on The Acorn People by Stephen MacPherson Review: This story is about a young teenage kid who applies for a job in a camp for diabled children. He gets accepted to become a councelor in the camp called campWiggin. The children arrive and they all need help to go to the bathroom or to get into their cabin. The next morning alot of them wet their beds and the young councelor feels like he just wants to go home. The group starts to get closer and the councelor starts feeling better about himself and his group. They make acorn Necklaces together and give them ot other people and they call themselves the Acorn Society. The love to go in the swimming pool and that is their favorite part of the day. One day the group pushes their way up a mountain to earn a boy's scout badge even though the group is diabled and some are in wheelchairs and are blind. They earned the badge. Then soon they make it and get their badges. Soon it is close to the end of the camp and the parents are coming to watch the disabled childrens play they put together thAT IS TAKING PLACE ON THE POOL. The parents came and watched the play about pirates against native americans. In the end there is a secret crush that I'll leave you to read. All the disabled children die within 5 years of the that speciAL CAMP YEAR. The councellor learned that just getting up everyday is hard for these children and they have to fight to live. He learns that these children will die very soon. He wishes things like that wouldn't happen to good people.
Rating: Summary: The Disabled Kids Review: This was one of the best books I have ever read. The reason I liked the book was because the chidren were disabled and unhappy; then their angel came.He was so nice that he made them believe in themselves and made them feel that being disabled doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself as normal people. But I wasn't as happy as I thought I would be because all the kids died at the end which made it more sad. They had been through a lot, and I wanted them to be as happy as their angle made them feel.

Rating: Summary: The Acorn People Book Report Review: We had to read this book for school. The characters were sappy, their actions were predictable, and everyone said exactly what you are supposed to say about handicapped people. I could outline the plot after I had read the first page. To me, the worst part was that the narrator's attidude changed in less than a day. It was completely unrealistic. I have heard that this is a true story; if so, something very critical was lost during the writing. There were no surprises; the author tried to make it appeal to older kids with limited swearing, but this is no more than 5th grade book. With all due respect, once I put this book down, I couldn't pick it back up.
