Summary: A Must for Those Who Are Exploring Therapeutic Recreation
Review: I really enjoyed this book and the emotions the author expresses. I have been there, scared by what lay ahead. This is a wonderful book because it helps a person to realize everyone has fears and need to give things a chance. I am an Outdoor Education major and may minor in special populations. I felt this book gave me an incredible insight. It is just the right length to read to pre-teen campers or your children. or it is the right length for an hour or two of insight.

Summary: Excellent BOOK!!!!!
Review: I really enjyed this novel. We had to read it in school adn then do an independent book review. I would have probably not have read this book it I didn't have to read it in class. I am very glad however that my English teacher chose this book for us to read. I enjoyed how all the kids were trying to overcome what they had to live with. My favorite character was Benny B.. I thought that the end was very depressing. Why did the author make all opf the children die

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good Book
Review: I think that the Acorn People is a very interesting book. I think that the Acorn People made me think a lot. I used to laugh at handiccapped people but not any more. I feel bad for people like that. I feel like they don't have the chances we have. I now understand them well since I read the book. I felt like I was part of the story.

Summary: THE ARORN PEOPLE
Review: I think the book THE ARORN PEOPLE was not a good book. It bored me to death, just because books bore me. Also becaues there was no action and reading about handicapped kids is boring to me. I did not like this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: THe Acorn People
Review: I think the book was good.I think it was interesting because it tells you about handicapped people that have to struggle. It tells how they need more help with a lot of things than people that aren't handicapped. I would recommend it to people who might like to read about the adventures of handicapped kids.

Summary: Camp counselor for disabled children and their experiences
Review: I would give this 3 1/2 stars, so mentally add a half star to this rating, everyone. The acorn people are five young boys and their counselor who share a bond tied to acorn necklaces they make. It is an honest portrayal of some of the experiences an unprepared young adult encounters when taking on the job of a summer camp counselor at a camp for disabled youngsters. This book will be misinterpreted by many as fiction, but it is a work of nonfiction. So, the thoughts and feelings are of a real person, not made up. (This author went on to become a teacher. I bet the experiences he had at camp made him an empathetic one.) The book is too brief, but that might be good for a first venture into this subject matter which may be difficult for a lot of readers. The book from its opening paragraphs gives insight into the common obstacles disabled children (and by extension, anyone who is disabled) must face. The epilogue made me cry even though I was expecting something like it. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't....

Summary: Recommended for those without disabilities
Review: I would recommend this book to those without disabilities, especially middle school and high school students who have kids with disabilities on their campus. It would be helpful in letting typical students know a little bit more about the personalities behind the disabilities they see. Then, maybe they would be less timid about becoming friends with a kid with disabilities. I recommend this book also to all of my University level students in the teacher credential program. One of my high school special education teachers will be using this book wiht her Partners club of typical students who act as friends and peer tutors to her kids with disabilities.

Summary: I'm an Acorn
Review: I'm an acorn, small and round
Lying on the cold, cold ground
Everyone walks all over me
That is why I'm cracked you see

THAT SAYS IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: The Acron People
Review: My reaction to this book was that many handicapped children are not always happy with themselves because they don't have many options like we do. It made me think about how all of us should be treated equal and not as in groups. You don't notice when you truly hurt someone's feelings when you say something. Other students should read it because they will realize how people in wheelchairs can get their feelings hurt too. So treat handicapped people in the same way you want to be treated.
