Rating: Summary: Courtnay's Thoughts Review: I have only read Dreamland once and it turn out to be very good. When Sarah Dessen wrote this book she thought that this book may send out a litte message which was not to have an abusive relationship if you have been abused in your early life. I think that Cass didn't mean to run away from home to show her parents that she didn't love them. She did it because she was in love with Adam. The worst part of this book when Rogerson and Caitlin were going togather, they didn't go on any real dates. Also when Rogerson started to beat up on Caitlin like she was an nobody, but she didn't tell anyone. If that was me I would have told my bestfriend, parents, and any other grown up nearby. Out of all of this, this book was exciting, sad, and wonderful to read. I would recommended anyone who likes to read to read this book. Thank you!
Rating: Summary: Entrapping Review: Sarah Dessen writes this novel with poise, and perfect character development. Caitlin is an average teenager forced into cheerleading by her perky, popular best friend. One night at a keg party, Caitlin ditches a football player who is about to present her with his lettermans jacket for the rebellious, dreadlocked Rogerson. She forms a relationship with the mysterious teen, and as the reader, you, too, begin to fall in love with Rogerson as Caitlin does. When Rogerson, spurred by his fathers' own abuse, begins to hit Caitlin, you, like Caitlin, are torn between loving Rogerson as he was before and hating what he has become. The novel is beautifully written, and timed exceptionally. Sarah Dessen, by making you feel precisely as Caitlin does, draws you deep into Caitlin's world, falling into her downward spiral. The novel is difficult to put down, and will leave you thinking.
Rating: Summary: What is Catlin Hiding? Review: A Review by Sara Catlin woke up on the morning of her sixteenth birthday to find that her sister Cass ran away from home. Ever scene Cass ran away things in Catlin's life have not been the same. With her perfect prom queen, 4.0 sister gone Catlin noticed she was getting all the attention which she was not use to. When Catlin meets her boyfriend Rogerson the popular guy with long brown dread locks, green eyes and a beautiful smile things start to change. Catlin wanders into a Dreamland of drugs she's now entered the life style she never wanted. Catlin is hiding a huge secret from everyone but is too scared to tell. She fears that if she told the result would be death. This book was excellent! I loved how it dealt with issues that teen's are dealing with everyday. The characters in this book came to life. For example I loved her best friend Rina. Bright blonde hair perfect body all the guys drooling over her it was so different from what Cass was. I also loved how they portrayed Rogerson the popular gorgeous guy at school that seemed perfect to all the girls. On the inside Rogerson was a terrible boyfriend, who abused Catlin verbally and physically. It was so realistic just the way Rogerson would abuse Catlin and how Catlin was to afraid to leave him because she thought he would kill her. It sounds like something from a TV show (girlfriend to afraid to leave because she is afraid the boyfriend would hurt them). I loved Boo and Stewart what an odd pair of next door neighbors I would love them to be mine! This book deals with everyday situations that teens and adults deal with everyday it was so realistic it sounded like something I would hear at school. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes realistic stories dealing with real life situations. The story seems to keep a steady pace not being slow or too fast.
Rating: Summary: Dreamland Review: Shavonne Moorer--In this book there was a teenager named Caitlin O'Koren, who had a lot of problems that she tried to deal with on her own but was unable to. Her oldest sister,Cassandra, ran away on her sixteenth birthday and she no longer had a leader for her to follow. Being that her sister was the leader and she was the follower she had to become her own leader. Her best friend Rina talked her into trying out for cheerleading because it was one of the things that her sister didn't do. Caitlin felt like she became second because her family always put her sister before her and loved her sister more than they loved her. When she finally got a botfriend(Rogerson Bisco) she felt like she had someone to love her like she wanted to be loved. She felt as if he gave her the love that she didn't get from her parents and her sister. Caitlin was blinded by this love and couldn't see past him abusing her and influencing her to smoke pot. After a while the abuse got worse and she was smoking pot on a regular basis. She wanted to tell someone about this abuse but she was afraid she couldn't even face the truth. Caitlin was lost, at times she didn't even know who she was. She was in another world whenever she was with Rogerson. Her family and friends suspected that she was having a problem but didn't want to ask her about it. When her family found out about it they didn't down her but Rogerson went to jail and they took her to Evergreen Care Center for her to got help. While she was there her family and her friends visited her and talked to her trying to make everything good and trying to get her back the way she was. She finally expressed her self to the doctor that was there at the center and she was doing beter. Rogerson and pot was out of her head and she was ready to go home. When she got home all of her family and friends were there giving her the support that she needed. I enjoyed the book because there where things in there that teenagers go through that I could relate to. It was knowledgable and it taught a lesson.
Rating: Summary: DreamLand by Sara Dessen Review: I liked DreamLand by Sara Dessen. I have to be honest when I first started reading the book I wasn't interested in it. When I had a chance to really read the book i liked it and couldn't stop reading it. It was about a typical teenage girl who has trouble inside and outside of the home. She has to deal with her older sister who just completely left with out saying a word . She had to deal with her family changing because of her sister running away. When she met an older boy name Rogerson that seem to make her life better for awhile at least she thought. When she met Rogerson she started doing things she never thought she would do. She started smoking, drinking and wasn't having time for her friends. After awhile she noticed that Rogerson was acting stranged and one he just started hitting and he never would stop. She was so afraid to tell anyone about him hitting her. She felt like the only person she could tell wasn't their(her sister). She thought if her parents found out they would think less of her but every one could tell the change in her. one day while her mother had a party and the girl (Caithlin) wasn't there he began to get angry. When Caithlin finally arrived he hit her worse than he ever hit her before.A neighbor saw them and called the cops and her mother and rogerson went to jail. Her parents could not beleive that their child was getting hit by her boyfriend. That was just a brief summary of the book , it was really good and i would like to encourage more young females to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Dreamland Review: Dessen's prose is masterful, her characters vividly real, and her portrait of Caitlin's downward spiral is powerful and believable. In an almost matter-of-fact narration, Caitlin explains her trajectory into abuse. When Caitlin's sister Cassandra runs away, escaping the pressure of parental expectations, Caitlin is suddenly at a loss to define herself. Her attempts to understand what makes her unique lead her to seek meaning in Rogerson, an emotionally complex boy who sells drugs to his classmates. This novel would be useful for a teen book group, and especially helpful for illustrating how ordinary people come to such extraordinary circumstances.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I thought this book was very thought provoking. It will seem like the characters are real. The plot is perfect, so is the setting.
Rating: Summary: Very nice book to read for teenagers Review: Dreamland was a very interesting book to read. I read this book for a project and found that I indeed liked the book. It is a very good book for young people to read and also for adults to read and understand what a teenager goes through. All in all this book would be one of the best book for anyone who just wants to take a look at the life of a troubled youth.
Rating: Summary: A Wow-ed reader Review: Wow! This book was absoluetly amazing. I love how Dessen starts with Kaitlyn being very family oriented, but by the end of the book, the only person she is really with is Rogerson. This book will make you laugh, but mostly make you cry. It is such a sad story, and you find even yourself telling Kaitlyn to "Wake up", yet you feel as if you are almost the third person in Rogerson's and Kaitlyn's romance. A chilling story that kept me fliping pages! One of my favorite books!
Rating: Summary: very realistic Review: i like this book because it was written well and it was about real life experiences. dreamland was also funny and enjoyable because teens can really relate to everything the author writes about. it is a very valuable book, in my opinion!
