Rating: Summary: Very interesting Review: "Leslie's Journal" is the typical story of a teenage girl whose boyfriend abuses her. Though the story has been told so many times before, this one is especially good. Leslie has to write a journal for her English class, and after a short time, she starts to tell secrets she'd never tell anyone. Secrets about her best friend, her mom, her teachers, and her boyfriend. Until her English teacher reads it, and reports it to the principal, because Leslie has written about her abusive boyfriend. Her boyfriend gets called down to the office and questioned, and later comes after Leslie. It's a very good book, but it is haunting. I strongly reccommend it.
Rating: Summary: The Book That Got Me Reading Books Review: Before I read this book I wasn't much of a reader. When I discovered Amazon.com I looked at the books for teens and this book seemed very interesting. I ordered the book and when I got is read it in one sitting. This book was so amazing it had everything I needed it had suspence, drama, action, and conflict. I would reccomend this book to any Young Adult reader. Leslie's Jornal is about an angst ridden teen who's parents were going through divorce. She kind of a bad A$$ and wanted to impress these girls that she hated. so she started going with Jason(the new kid)and the first night she had to much to drink and passed out the next thing she finds out is that he had sex with her passed out body. He starts to get abusive and controlling giving her pills and making her have sex. When she brakes up with him he starts to stalk her and tells her he has pictures of her passed out naked at his house. She went into his house and found her picture along with other girls pictures....I don't want to give away anymore....hope i didn't give away too much . Read it! Also recommended: Smack, The Torn Skirt, Breathing Underwater, Forged by Fire, Darkness Berfore Dawn, Born Blue, Night, If I Should Die Before I Wake, Speak, I Have Lived A Thousand Years, The Cage, Everytime A Rainbow Dies, Black-eyed Suzie, Monster, Go Ask Alice, The Giver, and Gathering Blue!! Read them All!
Rating: Summary: Leslie's Journal Review: I enjoyed this book very much. I think it is a good book for young adults who are wanting to know what goes on in the "real" world. This book has a superfulous amount of realism in the scenes, I was very surprised about that. I could picture every moment in my head. The book was suspenful, exciting, realistic, sad, and just fun to read. I recommend this book to any young adult. Thank you for reading my review and if you are thinking about reading Leslie's Journal, I think anybody would enjoy it. So have fun! :)
Rating: Summary: Written for a grade 5 with content for much older Review: I personally was very let down by this book.
Ive read reviews about how realiztic this book is, and how wonderful of a read it is. Personally I found it to be a horrible read.
From the start I was questioning the books value. Leslie is a teenager put in the the over used, stereotypical situation of a divorce, shes a rebel, her friend is a religious zealot, and she doesnt get along with many people or teachers.
Throw in Jason, his hot, his rich, and hes bad. Wow, didnt see that one comming!
Needless to say the book progress and I started to just get annoyed at how rude Lesie was. I dont know anybody who is this rude to their parents or other people. Quite frankly if she just stopped being so arrogant from the start, the book could have ended in the first few pages, and I would have enjoyed the book much more.
But back to the story. Throughout the book, Lesie makes a string of bad, rude, and just stupid choices.
But, just like a disney movie, no matter how bad of a person she is, she does one socially redeeming thing (not willingly I might add) and, bing bang boom, shes a hero!
If only it worked that way in real life. This book is just showing kids that when they act out, and misbehave, things will be AOK in the end. Newsflash! it wont. If your a bad person, if you fight with your parents, get drunk, do drugs, steal from your parents and beg on the streets, somthing is gona happen to you, and it sure wont be what happened to Lesie. This book just encourages teenagers to head down the path of destruction, assuring them that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There isnt.
Now to the fact that this book could be picked up by a grade 5 and he/she could read the entire book and technically not have a problem with it. Some of the content might be too much for sombody of that age, but the way the book is written, they would have an easy time with it.
Recently, this book has been used in English 11 in my school district.
I gave it two stars because some people seemed to like this book and the way it falsly convayed reality. It's a great twist on life, but for all people say its realisitc, its not.
Personally I would not reccomend it to anybody who has Empathy or anybody who normally reads books, as I found it far too sterotypical, boring, and there was no "morally uplifting" ending. Overall the book was a pain to read, although it was hard to put down when you started, as you were half hoping that it might start to get interesting, but instead it just gets more depresseing, unhappy, and in my honest opinion, bad.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: I thought this book was a great booke. It's abouu a real life situation that could happen to anybody. I just thought that it was a really good book. It kept me wanting to know what happened next.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down.. Review: I thought this book was amazing - it deals with the lengths a person would go to to feel loved..
In this case the person is Leslie, she's a depressed teenager who skips class and everything with only one friend she can depend on, Katie, but even she is drifting away when her mom says that Leslie is a bad influence.. Well one day she was sent to the princepl's office when she left this guy was staring at her, Jayson, who soon turned her life into a living hell, when they start going out, he physically abuses her and when she had enough she dumped him but he wouldn't let her go - he starts stalking her..
This is how Leslie must now overcome this nightmare with her best friend Katie..
This book will draw u in and keep ur attention through out the book
Rating: Summary: Thriller Review: I was on the edge of my seat. I couldn't stop reading this book because I needed to know what would happen to Leslie next. I was so worried about her when I was forced to put the book down for a few minutes. I loved this book, not just for its suspense, but for its well developed characters. I hated and loved them all. Leslie was such a typical teen, not knowing quite where she belonged and she has such realistic feelings and emotions that I thought lots of teens could relate to her. I found this to be a great cautionary tale for young ladies. Great book.
Rating: Summary: leslies journal Review: I would like to start off by saying that i really enjoyed this book! As i read it, it seemed like i had grown with the character as she went through her trying times with the boy Jason! I feel that most girls between the ages of 13 and 17 can sort of relate to the problems that Leslie went through in some manner. Maybe not as extreme as Leslies but the peer pressure really is a issue in high school! The only thing i was dissapointed about in this book was the ending! In the end you start to think, hasn't she gone through enough... i guess the author thought different! But overall this is a really good book and i would recommend it to any girl between the ages of 13-17!!!!
Rating: Summary: A scary, gripping read¿ Review: I'll admit I didn't have the highest hopes for this story about Leslie, a daughter of divorced parents, who starts to write her most personal thoughts in a journal assigned to her by her English teacher. It seems like Leslie's only outlet, and since her teacher promised never to read it, what's the harm in putting down personal stuff, like the fact she likes Jason? Jason isn't exactly your average boyfriend however. His first "date" with Leslie involves too much alcohol and it isn't until later that Leslie realizes she's been raped. Leslie continues to see Jason after this, seeing something in the much older and richer guy. His behavior just starts to escalate, and then a new English teacher turns over Leslie's journal to the principal. Leslie's scared for her life and so are the readers in this disturbing story of teenage relationship violence.
Rating: Summary: This book was amazingly written, with so much depth! Review: I'm 13 years old and have just finished this amazing book. While it's exciting, it is also extermly freaky...I wouldn't reccommed this book to just anyone. It shows the real truth of being a teenager. I hope you enjoy this book if you get it.
