Summary: Light Read
Review: This book was charming. I loved how the characters seemed true to life, even though they were non-human. Hermux reminded me of a cross between Watson and The Great Mouse Detective (a darling movie). It was a bit confusing at times, but a very enjoyable read that left me feeling refreshed and happy. One of those books that makes you feel good about the world in general, with the whole good triumps over evil thing. I also liked that this book's ending was realistic (as much as a book about rodents can be), with not everything(namely the girl)falling into the hero's lap.

Summary: Time Stops for No Mouse
Review: This is the first Hermux Tantamoq adventure - an intriguing little tale about a watchmaker mouse. Hermux is shy and pedantic, and longs for an adventure. When the dashing aviatrix Ms Perflinger leaves her travel watch to be repaired, Hermux finds himself thrown into more adventures than he could possibly have imagined.

All of the characters in this book are mice - but not living beneath the floorboards in human's houses. No, they inhabit their own beautifully detailed and believable mouse world. The characterization is delightful - and although aimed at young readers, will appeal to many an older reader with a taste for whimsy and anthropomorphized stories. The plot is a kind of 'whodunit' - and requires the reader paying close attention if they are to solve all the clues.

The book is divided into lots and lots of mini-chapters - some no longer than a page or two in length. This makes it the ideal bedtime storybook for reading aloud to little sleepyheads!

Summary: Exciting New Fantasy/Mystery Series for Middle Readers
Review: Hermux Tantamoq is a normal mouse, with a not-so-normal mouse job, for he is a watchmaker, who spends his days working inside his watch shop, and spends his night cuddling at home with his loving pet ladybug, Terfle. It's not a surprise, that as a watchmaker, Hermux rarely experiences any excitement. That is, of course, until Linka Perflinger, an adventuress, visits Hermux one day, and asks him to fix her extremely broken watch, and quickly captures Hermux's heart. However, things become quite strange when a rat tries to claim Linka's watch, and Hermux becomes completely sure that something bad has happened. Now, Hermux is entangled with a crazy cosmetics tycoon, a clan of vicious lab rats, and a sinister plastic surgeon, and he's quickly realizing that the truth is, time stops for no mouse, even when he's a watchmaker.

In this first novel about Hermux Tantamoq, author Michael Hoeye introduces us to a wonderfully brave, and intelligent mouse, who turns a quest for love into a mystery involving kidnapping, and eccentricity. Hoeye has created a lovely new book series that will capture the hearts of animal lovers the world over. I am now extremely excited about reading the next book in the series, THE SANDS OF TIME, as I am ready for another dose of Tantamoq.

Summary: Really Good, but too many characters
Review: Time Stops for No Mouse is an exciting and riveting mystery with bits of humour inbetween. And even in the case of balmy plastic surgeons and a cosmetics empire, there is room for the warmness of Hermux's thank-you journal (I've started one myself!), and wonderful descriptions of the rodent-inhabited town of Pinchester. And this absurd yet clever combination is what makes for a very yummy read.

I'm sorry for sounding like the inside of a book flap, but honestly, this is one of my favorite books. I admit I have lots of favorites, but this one is very much at the top. And none of the stuff above is an exaggeration, for it truly is a fantastic adventure that I was eager to be pulled into.

It's amazing how the author put the story together and tells it so smartly, and I think that adds to the allure of such a sophisticated little world. The descriptions never falter and create a lovely picture (which is why I don't have difficulty describing it).

Hermux is the most likeable mouse, and though you could say the ordinary-mouse-with-an-everyday-life-becomes-a-hero idea is much too cliched and predictable, I completely disagree. Even if there are predictable pieces - and there was one - it still ends up surprising the reader somehow. Hermux is unique in many ways, all the way down to the little things, as he's a very classy guy. ^_^ His name is just a bit of a mouthful if you read it aloud.

That would be my criticism - the names of the characters. Because they are so odd they're rather difficult to remember/pronounce, so you might have to check back a few times to make sure you're clear on who is who (as I did). But a while I began to associate the names with the rodents and they seemed to fit well enough to their personalities.

Okie dokes, I will stop with my rambling now. All in all, I definitely reccommend this book - and the sequel (hehe), to adults as well. In my opinion, it is a splendid read that no one should miss out on. YAY!

Summary: Lovable Characters + Lighthearted Mystery = Great Book!
Review: Time Stops for No Mouse is an exciting story that shows that a person's (or mouse's) life can be changed entirely in minutes. Hermux Tantamoq is a typical mouse living a typical life. He lives alone with his pet ladybug, Terfle, and spends his time repairing watches. Things change a little when he falls in love at first sight with the beautiful, daring aviatrix Linka Perflinger who comes to him to repair her watch. He realizes something is wrong when she doesn't come back for it -- and a mysterious rat comes instead -- and he sets off on a journey to rescue her. Along the way, he proves that little people (or mice -- the symbolism is probably why the author made Hermux a mouse) can do big things, and that the most routine lives can become heroic adventures.
Hermux trails the rat who tried to claim Linka's watch to Linka's house, and sees things that lead him to believe she is being held prisoner in her own house! With the help of his new friend Pup Schoonagliffen, he becomes involved in the same mystery which involvement in endangered Linka. It is a mystery of jungle expeditions, health resorts, distasteful interior decorating, spies in disguises, murders, and the search for eternal youth, and it is a mystery that investigating -- and eventually solving -- will change Hermux's life forever.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a fast-paced mystery with surprising twists and turns, and you really got to care about the main characters. It got a bit confusing at times because there were so many different people after the formula for eternal youth, but for the most part it was fun to read. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a light-hearted but exciting mystery story.

Summary: A mouse on a mission
Review: Before Despereaux Tilling became the world's most famous mouse with a French name ("Tale of Despereaux" was the 2003 Newbery winner), there was a different mouse who was, by far, more interesting. Hermux Tantamoq lives a quiet life as a watchmaker. When a glamorous aviatrix, Ms. Linka Perflinger, appears in his shop and has him fix her watch, he has no idea that this simple act will start him on the adventure of a lifetime.

This is a story that is as cozy in its way as, "The Wind In the Willows" with a dash of "Basil of Baker Street" thrown in for a little mystery. Unlike most anthropomorphic animal tales with mouse heroes, however, this one takes place in a modern day and age. Hermux is truly a modern mouse with old-fashioned sensibilities. The world in which he lives, a large city named Pinchester, is like New York but filled with furry woodland creatures. Animals shop at high priced clothing stores named, "Orsik & Arrbale". They attend fancy spas like, "The Last Resort". And they create modern art installations in apartment lobbies. Sometimes children's authors want to write stories about adults living in adult situations. When this is the case they usually make the characters into animals, so as to draw in the kiddie set. Would the "Redwall" books grab your interest half as much if they weren't furry? Would "The Wind in the Willows" even be remembered today? Probably not. As such, this is an adult story given a soft fuzzy coating while retaining its crisp dialogue and artful storytelling. Hoeye is an excellent author, there's no question. He writes wonderful scenes of danger and daring-do without descending into pulp fiction. Even better, he has a real ear for enjoyable names. This book is filled with characters like Tucka Mertslin, Peer Smillendin, Conko di Claramoor, Trubby Tolkstottin, and others. After all is said and done, it is shocking to me that this book isn't better known to every man, woman, and child in the continental U.S. For excellent prose and rollicking good times, I present to you, "Time Stops For No Mouse". A worthy peer to the millions of other mouse hero stories on the market today.
