Rating: Summary: Time Stops for No Mouse: A Hermux Tantamoq Adventure Review: While on a trip, I stoped by a massive and wonderful bookstore in Denver and picked up this book. I read it in two days, but believe me, it is not a picture book. I absolutly loved it! You guess the plot over and over in the book and you are proven wrong on the next page. It is WONDERFUL! I would not be surprised to see this on the bestsellers list in a short time because there is something for everyone in this book. The plot is great and humorous. In what other book is the enemy an eccentric cosmetics tycoon and an evil plastic surgon? The characters and setting are developed so well in this story that you invision the mice (the charaters are mice) running about doing their duties. Bottom Line: Buy this book! It is a must read for all mystery fans young and old with a wonderful plot and outstandintg characters!
Rating: Summary: Time Stops For No Mouse Review: This book Time Stops for no mouse is about a small mouse, Hermux Tantamoq is a watchmaker in the town of Pinchester. One day he has a new interesting customer named Linka Perflinger. Who walks in with a beautiful watch that is completely beaten up. Linka, .a spunky adventurer, wants the watch fixed by the next day. Hermux works all night fixing the watch, but in the morning Linka never comes back to get the watch. Hermux waits for days and still there is no sign of Linka. Hermux thinks that there is something wrong; he thinks maybe she is hurt. One of his good friends, Pup, discovers that Linka had just been researching the new youth formula made out of the moon plant and Tucka Mertslin a cosmetic dealer wants it and only Linka has the formula. The main characters in this story are Hermux and Linka. Some other characters are Dr.Mennus, Pup Schoonagliffen, Mirrin, Dr. Dandiffer, and, last but not least, Tucka Mertslin. My favorite character is Linka because she is so full of energy and she was an adventurer. I can't really relate to any of these characters but I wish I could relate to Linka because she has such a great personality. This book was one of the best books I have ever read. I think it is brilliant how the author thought of having a separate community that is just like our own, but rodents live in it. As I said, I really like this book and I wouldn't change anything about it. I would definitely recommend this book because it is adventurous, fun ,suspenseful and a great book!. I think almost anybody would like this book. It's a great book and I think everyone should read it.
Rating: Summary: A mouse on a mission Review: Ever since the begging of time, humans have been fascinated with the other creatures that roam our world. Mice have been characters in many books including "The Mouse on the Motor Cycle" and are mimicked in the nursery rhyme "Three Blind Mice." In our world, though, mice are creatures that have a bad reputation to their name, their scary eyes and uneven gray fur make them easy to dislike. But in the fairy tale world they are noble and funny little critters. Though Hermux is a mouse, Michele Hoeye makes him very funny and amusing in his first book "Time Stops For No Mouse". "Time Stops For No Mouse" is a fairy tale minus the fairies. Hoeye defi-nitely wrote this book for a younger audience, but the love for a good book can bring together any age group. "Hermux threw the mail on his desk in his study and promptly forgot about his troubles. He ran to the window and peered into the cage where his pet ladybug dozed quietly on her perch. Hermux reached through the bars of the cage and stroked the edge of her glossy red wing. Terfle opened and closed her wings and stretched up in a lazy yawn." As you can probably tell, Hermux is a very homey mouse. He fixes watches for a living in a mouse city called Pinche-ster. He starts out with very little wits, but after meeting an "unexpected visitor" he finds that he has some guts after all. Hermux is not the kind of mouse that you would expect to be a hero, so when he tries to be, things don't always go according to plan Hoeye did a fantastic job putting together this book to make it so that the reader would never suspect the ending. The way he uses his words may have you going back to read a section again but he makes this talks difficult because you can get so involved with the story that you can't stop reading. The theme of this book is just like any other fairytale, a prince going off to rescue his fairytale princess. The only difference is that "prince charming" is a three-inch mouse. Besides being a mouse Hermux has a few other twists to his character. In the begging he would never dream of going anywhere out of his little city, but when he falls in love he can do some pretty crazy things. Even though he is a mouse, Hermux Tantemouq is a very funny and charming character in the book "Time Stops For No Mouse". With a little help from a lady friend, Hermux shows the world that even the most unlikely can become true hero.
Rating: Summary: It's Probably Going to be Famous Review: Like most of my favorites, I had no idea that this would be a good book. I just read it. By the time I was two pages into it, I knew that this wasn't going to be an ordinary book. Pretty much, the main story line goes like this: There is a city, called Pinchester, where the population consists of mice, rats, voles, chipmunks, squirrels...(you get the idea) and one of them is named Hermux Tantamoq. He is a watchmaker mouse and has a pretty much ordinary life, until one day, when Hermux is visited by Miss Perflinger, a young female mouse. She gives him a really torn up watch and her business card, which reads, "Ms. Linka Perflinger, Adventuress, Daredevil and Aviatrix, Bold Feats of Nerve and Verve, On Land and In the Air, Reasonable Rates, #3 Pickdorndle Lane, Pinchester." She tells him that the watch must keep perfect time. Even a second, she says, could mean the difference between life and death. That is the point where I couldn't stop reading, and read it (only stopping for homework, eating, etc) til the end. I was so sad that it ended that I had to get the sequel, which I am working on right now. I recommend the book for anyone 7 - adult. I loved it because of Michael Hoeye's touch. Some authors just give it their "touch" like Eva Ibbotson, Eoin Colfer, Roald Dahl, etc and Michael Hoeye fits right in.
Rating: Summary: Delightful Review: There's something innately likeable about Hermux Tantamoq, the mouse hero of this imaginative new book. Similarly, there is something innately likeable about the book itself, with the good descriptions and intriguing plot. (Cosmetics queen seeks immortality? Why didn't *I* think of that?) I'd say the best term would be "everymouse," with unrequited love, pleasant thank-you notes to the world, a pet ladybug he calls Terfle (also the name of the publishing company), and a job repairing clocks. Not an exciting life, but neither is it an unpleasant one. The object of his affection is Linka Perflinger, a pilot who at one point comes in to have her watch repaired. She vanishes, and soon a rather repulsive rat comes in to pick up her watch. Hermux follows him to Linka's home, and soon realizes that she may have been kidnapped. A journal from the jungle of Teulabonari gives him a clue to where Linka may be, and he soon finds himself facing down a cosmetics monarch, a plastic surgeon, and an army of lab rats... It's hard not to like Hermux, the humble and mild-natured mouse who finds himself roped into becoming an amateur detective (for Linka's sake). His... zest isn't quite the word, "enjoyment" of life is a nice oasis in a massive number of sarcastic and/or world-weary heroes. His conversations with Terfle and thanks to the universe are really sweet. Fans of Harry Potter may enjoy the twisty, edge-of-your-seat storylines, while fans of Redwall may enjoy the intelligently-portrayed talking mice. A particularly nice touch is the names: rather than insulting our intelligence with fake "mouse-y" names, Hoeye creates unique names like "Hermux Tantamoq" or "Teulabonari" which add just the right note of fantasy. I am definitely anticipating the publication of the second Hermux book....
Rating: Summary: I don't know where to begin! Review: I notice that some readers aren't giving this book very glowing reviews, but I hope people aren't swayed by a little bad press. I adored this book. I am 22, and I enjoyed every word of this "kids" book. The main character is so warm and the descriptions illustrate him beautifully. Time Stops for no Mouse tells the adventure of a little watchmaking mouse with some colorful friends and an aviatrix hearthrob. The aviatrix does not pick up her watch, which she left with Hermux to repair, and when he tries to contact her, he discovers that she has been kidnapped. Boldly, he sets off the rescue her. This book could easily be read aloud, and the short chapters make for good places to stop until the next night. The pace is fast and action-packed. I read this book in one evening, and was so delighted I bought the sequel the next day (which is also wonderful). This book fills the void after Harry Potter, and I think I look forward to another Hermux Tantamoq Adventure more. Read this book, you will not be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Watchmaker or Dectective? Review: Hermux Tamoque is a quiet old mouse/watchmaker. Some of his neighbors annoy him, like Tucka Mertson, but he loves his life any way. One day, an adventuress named Linka Perflinger asks Hermux to fix her watch and have it done by the next day. He fell in love with her when he saw her. Hermux fixed the watch perfectly, but Linka never came to pick it up. Soon a rat came and demanded Linka's watch. Hermux didn't give it two him, instead he followed him. He eventually came to Linka's house. He saw Linka taken out of her house and forsed into a car. After that Hermux started to become a detective. He found out that some people are not what they seem. The book has a surprising ending. Time stops for no mouse is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It was terrific!
Rating: Summary: Lovable Characters + Lighthearted Mystery = Great Book! Review: Time Stops for No Mouse is an exciting story that shows that a person's (or mouse's) life can be changed entirely in minutes. Hermux Tantamoq is a typical mouse living a typical life. He lives alone with his pet ladybug, Terfle, and spends his time repairing watches. Things change a little when he falls in love at first sight with the beautiful, daring aviatrix Linka Perflinger who comes to him to repair her watch. He realizes something is wrong when she doesn't come back for it -- and a mysterious rat comes instead -- and he sets off on a journey to rescue her. Along the way, he proves that little people (or mice -- the symbolism is probably why the author made Hermux a mouse) can do big things, and that the most routine lives can become heroic adventures. Hermux trails the rat who tried to claim Linka's watch to Linka's house, and sees things that lead him to believe she is being held prisoner in her own house! With the help of his new friend Pup Schoonagliffen, he becomes involved in the same mystery which involvement in endangered Linka. It is a mystery of jungle expeditions, health resorts, distasteful interior decorating, spies in disguises, murders, and the search for eternal youth, and it is a mystery that investigating -- and eventually solving -- will change Hermux's life forever. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a fast-paced mystery with surprising twists and turns, and you really got to care about the main characters. It got a bit confusing at times because there were so many different people after the formula for eternal youth, but for the most part it was fun to read. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a light-hearted but exciting mystery story.
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly, amazingly, tantalizingly good Review: Before Despereaux Tilling became the world's most famous mouse with a French name ("Tale of Despereaux" was the 2003 Newbery winner), there was a different mouse who was, by far, more interesting. Hermux Tantamoq lives a quiet life as a watchmaker. When a glamorous aviatrix, Ms. Linka Perflinger, appears in his shop and has him fix her watch, he has no idea that this simple act will start him on the adventure of a lifetime. This is a story that is as cozy in its way as, "The Wind In the Willows" with a dash of "Basil of Baker Street" thrown in for a little mystery. Unlike most anthropomorphic animal tales with mouse heroes, however, this one takes place in a modern day and age. Hermux is truly a modern mouse with old-fashioned sensibilities. The world in which he lives, a large city named Pinchester, is like New York but filled with furry woodland creatures. Animals shop at high priced clothing stores named, "Orsik & Arrbale". They attend fancy spas like, "The Last Resort". And they create modern art installations in apartment lobbies. Sometimes children's authors want to write stories about adults living in adult situations. When this is the case they usually make the characters into animals, so as to draw in the kiddie set. Would the "Redwall" books grab your interest half as much if they weren't furry? Would "The Wind in the Willows" even be remembered today? Probably not. As such, this is an adult story given a soft fuzzy coating while retaining its crisp dialogue and artful storytelling. Hoeye is an excellent author, there's no question. He writes wonderful scenes of danger and daring-do without descending into pulp fiction. Even better, he has a real ear for enjoyable names. This book is filled with characters like Tucka Mertslin, Peer Smillendin, Conko di Claramoor, Trubby Tolkstottin, and others. After all is said and done, it is shocking to me that this book isn't better known to every man, woman, and child in the continental U.S. For excellent prose and rollicking good times, I present to you, "Time Stops For No Mouse". A worthy peer to the millions of other mouse hero stories on the market today.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: "Time Stops for no Mouse," by Michael Hoeye, is one of the greatest books I've ever read. A simple plot, incredible character and setting descriptions, and likeable mice are some of the things that make this story a must-read. The story focuses on Hermux Tantamoq, a watchmaker who falls in love with a female adventuress. She drops off her watch in his store, but never comes back to pick it up. Hermux finds himself suspicious and starts on a hunt for the woman-mouse. Filled with adventure and wit, Michael Hoeye comes up with his first book, a hit.
