Rating: Summary: a must read series! Review: okay, I will be the first to admit that I am a bit older then the people these books are aimed at-- but I love them. My mother is even reading the series. We got into the tv series recently and when I heard they were based on a series of books I had to take a look. I wish these books had been around when I was younger.Though they claim to be aimed for young adults, this series of books is a good read for adults. We're even getting ready to give the books to my young neighbor. The story continues from one book to the next and does quite a good job of keeping the reader wanting that next book. Though I found the books to be an easy read, I was still stimulated, amused, and concerned. An excellent way to relax after a long day. The characters show a lot of growth as they go from book to book. With their relationships twisting and turning rather realistically. Max feels he can't be close to Liz because she'll be in danger. Maria has a crush on Michael but he wants to keep everything comfortable and not let it get confusing. Isabelle wants more the adoration and love of Alex. Each book expands on the previous one. Absolutely delightful. Fun for everyone.
Rating: Summary: The Books that Preceded the TV Series Review: This is the first book (of ten) in the Roswell High series that became the basis for the Roswell TV show on the WB (and later UPN) network. Readers familiar with the television version will immediately note that once you get past the very first scene (the only scene both series share and the TV show took this scene nearly word for word from the book) the two quickly part ways never to meet again. The TV show also changed many of the characters on a basic level: Liz Ortecho becomes Liz Parker and is no longer hispanic, Max has blond hair and blue eyes in the books while the TV version has brown, in the books the characters are of various ages and in the show they are all younger to fit the WB demographic, Maria's little brother and Alex's older brothers are wiped from existence in the TV show, Isabel is a cheerleader and ultra popular, Michael is never in a foster situation like that on the show (though he does end up with his own apartment - eventually)... Both series have their merits and problems but I think that these books are definitely worth the read - as long as you're prepared for a completely different version of the Roswell saga.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT book for teens! Review: Roswell High VOL. 1.Is a great book for teens. It is filled with humor, mystery, and romance. Roswell High is a series, so I would start with VOL. 1. I think the best part of the book was when Liz and Max were named Homecoming King and Queen and later in the chapter everyone had a dance partner, when Liz and Max danced. I liked those parts of the book the best because it is written very well, with a lot of description. Also read the other great books about Roswell High.
Rating: Summary: Good Series Review: Melinda is a GOOD author. When you read this series, you feel like seeing movie. You can imagine the story frame by frame. It¡¦s VERY VERY attractive. There are more romance between the teens. Maria in this series is adorable then the TV series. If you love the TV series, you will love it too.
Rating: Summary: Roswell High - one of the best series ever! Review: For a person who does not specifically enjoy reading science fiction, I absolutely LOVE this book and all of the other books of the series. It's hard to believe that the books can actually be better than the show! I would advise you to buy quie a few books at a time, and if you have enough money, buy the whole series! The books satisfy my needs of romance, action, drama, and science fiction, and you will find yourself screaming at the characters while your reading! All of the books are extremely enjoyable and will be a wonderful read, even though you will go through them quickly. You won't be able to put them down!
Rating: Summary: the outsider is my favorite books Review: it was a great book and everything but it had a good ending that was not expected. the outsider was very describtive and gave a great picture. this book was very creative. i loved this book and any one that loves to read has to add this book to one of there lists to read.
Rating: Summary: The books vs. the TV show Review: I'm sure you've all heard of the show Roswell and I'm still surprised how many fans were unaware that the show was actually based on a series of books. A series of books that I personally think are better than the TV show. I've read a lot of books based on a TV show and they normally are exactly the same, they take 300 pages to work out the big bad, a chapter to get rid of it, then come to some moral at the end. And these books are different. Everyone is likable, and the story is always interesting. Sure it's got a moral buried in there about alienation in High School. But it's not in big flashing lights, it's a subject that manages to ruin through all ten books very easily without it sounded like preching. They is a perfect balance of sci-fi and romance and although it is written for slightly younger people than myself I found myself enjoying them. I read the books before I saw the show, I don't know if this mades me have a different option on it but any fan of the show should read this book, and any non-fans too.
Rating: Summary: The beginning of something great Review: After watching Roswell High on the Television i felt i had to read the book. I was totally blown away by the way all the intense feelings were portrayed through the text and couldn't put the book down till i had finished. I really enjoyed reading about Max and Liz's relationship. Romantic and exciting, this book really captures the imagination. My only regret is that i haven't bought the whole series.
Rating: Summary: There's something about Max... Review: When Liz is shot in the stomach at the Crashdown Cafe where she works, Max Evans doesn't know what to do. How could he just watch the girl he loves die? So regardless of Michael's warnings, Max places his hands on her blood-covered stomach and heals her. That leaves some explaining to do. For one, there's Sheriff Valenti to deal with. That wasn't very hard, though. All they had to do was break a kethcup bottle and drench Liz's shirt with ketchup to cover the blood. But then, Max has to explain to Liz why she is suddenly healed, and why he was able to heal her. And the explaination might not be that easy. Because Max is an alien. A real, live alien from another planet. When Liz first finds out the truth about him, his sister, and Michael, she's creeped out and frightened. But then, events occur which will bring Maria, Liz, Isabel, Michael, and Max closer than they've ever been before. I recommend this book for fans of Fingerprints (also by Melinda Metz), alien-ish books, and other science fiction books.
Rating: Summary: Feeling Alien (Literally) in High School Review: Who hasn't ever felt like an alien in high school? Well, for Max, Michael and Isabel, they not only feel like aliens, they know that they are aliens. The Outsider is the beginning of the ten book Roswell High series by Melinda Metz that brings the reader into a world where an alien could be the boy you never noticed from third grade. The main characters include Max, Michael and Isabel who are orphaned aliens who do not remember their home planet or why they are on Earth. Liz finds out the trio's secret when she gets shot and Max, who has always loved Liz from afar, heals her with his powers. Liz's best friends Maria and Alex soon learn about the aliens and together, the six of them are bonded for life. Metz does a wonderful job blending science fiction with action, heartfelt emotion and modern wit. Each book of the series has its own plot with continuity and closure but enough of a cliffhanger to lead the reader into the next story. In the end, Metz's point comes across clear - that no matter what the differences (even alien ones) between friends, all that matters is friendship and teamwork, and anything can happen!
