Summary: Common and Predictable
Review: The book is a basic vampyre story, no real twists in the road, no newly thought up hidden secrets to the vampyre lore. Very ordinary in the lines of these types of books. It basically tells of a girl, Riska (her vampyric name) avenging her own death as well as her brother's after experiencing three hundred or so years in between living and death.

She has of course a rival, Aubery. In which i find their relationship very mocking and suitable for the story infact, one of it's better points. While she tells of her problems with Aubery in the present, she also recaps her experiences becoming a vampyre, her first kill, her remorse and oppressed blood lust of becoming and submitting into the lifestyle of the hunter of humans.

I would have to say that i admired the love for the tiger in the story that Riska held, it almost showed that she was only willing to love something that could never love her back, the same way she still loved her dead brother.

but all in all, it was a common and easy read.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I got this book for Christmas and finished it the same day! I could not put it down! in the beginning you may think "What is she talking about?", and if you are not in love with fantasy books as I am you probably won't like it as much as I did. But despite that fact after the first two chapters you most likely will not be able to stop reading it! The ideas about Vampires are very well thought out, I hardly beleived it was written by a girl of 13! This book is about a girl who is a Vampire but often you read about her past and how she came to be a vampire. The end has a nice twist to it. But I didn't want it to end.

Summary: In the Forests of the Night
Review: I got this book for Christmas and read it in one day! I couldn't put it down! People who don't enjoy fantasy books probably wouldn't enjoy this book as much as I did. The book is a little confusing in the beginning but is so amazing and captivating once you get into it. The ideas in the book are really interesting and make you think. I couldn't beleive the author was 13 when she wrote this! I'm going to recommend this book to all my friends!

Summary: Er...
Review: Hmm...I stole this book from a friend in my Science class when we had a free period. And...I must say that I was not too impressed. Yes, it's remarkable that Ms. Atwater-Rhodes has managed to be published at an early age, but I've read unpublished work of many other writers even younger than her, and she doesn't compare.

For one, while her extensive vocabulary is evident, it doesn't seem too mature. Anybody can look up big words in dictionaries and write them in, but it takes more experience to truly understand how to use those words. Randomly sticking them in does not qualify. Basically, impressive words can absolutely not substitute for substance. The author described the scenery in a way that was probably very specific to her, but I still had a hard time really imagining it--and I have a pretty good imagination.

Also, I didn't think that her characters were very well defined. They were stereotypical, something you would expect to see in a soap opera. I couldn't really sympathize with any of them--and when will someone have an ugly hero? Ms. Atwater-Rhodes created a fantasy, but not for her readers. As many of you have pointed out, this was blatant self-insertion. While it's fine to write for yourself, people get tired of a teenager's fantasies and want thought-out, deep characters. Something out of the ordinary. Sexy vampires doesn't cut it.

Ms. Atwater-Rhodes also, I believe, stated that she didn't really have a plot. Writing aimlessly isn't healthy for a book's quality. In your first-ever book, you really want to make a lasting impression. If you suspect that your plot is lacking, either fix it or scrap the lot of it. You don't want your reputation stained by impatience to publish and not take the time to really think the storyline out.

Still, the author's accomplishments provide inspiration for me, a girl her age who hopes to publish her own book one day. I'm sure it does for others, too. I'm sorry to say this, but if Ms. Atwater-Rhodes can get published, there's hope for the rest of us.

Summary: Not excellent...
Review: I read this book when I had a free period in Science--in other words, I stole it from a friend and buried my nose in it. If it were not for the fact that I rarely put a book down, I might have discontinued right after the first few pages.

I've read many of the reviews already posted on this, and there's a surprising amount of diversity (It's interesting--I noticed that a great deal of positive reviews had poor spelling, grammar errors, and excessive exclamation points) in terms of quality. Many points have already been analyzed again and again, and most I agree with.

Yes, it's amazing that Ms. Atwater-Rhodes was only thirteen when writing this--and having it published--but I've read the unpublished work of many other young adults trying their hand at writing, and I have to say that 'In the Forests of the Night' doesn't compare to most. The author has a fine vocabulary, but she makes a common mistake--large words can not substitute for substance. The characters were stereotypical, somewhat reminding me of a soap opera, and while they were described with a no-doubt accurate detail, I just couldn't see what the author did. I had trouble getting into the book and an easy time getting out of it. The plot--well, you may not see it everyday, but it lacks the potency that a reader really looks forward to.

Still, not just anybody can publish a book. As a young writer myself, I hope to publish my own book, and seeing this gives me a lot of hope.

Summary: Clearly the work of an amateur
Review: Frankly, if I had not known anything about this girl, I still would have known that this was written by a kid. Just by reading it you can tell because traces of her immaturity tend to show up in her writing. For example, too many of her similes are unnecessary and certain aspects were not believable. She leaves certain points in her book unresolved, which makes the ending a little confusing. I was a little dissapointed by the fact that her main character's angry vengeance was in vain and only a simple misunderstanding. These are mistakes no true professional would have made. I was appalled by the fact that many of her reviewers were giving her book five stars. For goodness sakes, don't lie to the poor girl! If everyone tells her that she is a great writer then there will be no room for improvement, something that is much needed. Although she has alot of potential, she still has a long way to go.

Summary: Really Good Book
Review: I really like this book. The ending was kind of sad. The way Riskia found out about her brother was really wrong. She had just lost what was left of her humanity and she had to find out at that moment what happened. The author`s other books I read end in a more happy note but this one is more about revenge. If you Like books that deal with revenge, anger, and lonelyness ( can`t spell) You will love this book. Don`t be surprized if you get upset by the ending.

Summary: The book that started it all
Review: This is my ultimate favorite book of all time. I cannot even begin to count how many times i have read it. Although I own all of AAR's bookes ITFOTN is definatley my favorite.

This book about Risika, a vampire still trying to cling to her humanity, and her hate for her blood-brother Aubrey, who she believes to have killed her brother way back in 1701, when she was still Rachel. This book is wonderfully written, and has an ending that both satisfies, and leaves you wondering what happens next.

Summary: trying to save one of my personal faves
Review: I loved this book when I first read it. All those reviewers who mention the comparison of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes to Anne Rice should know that they are completely different authors. They have developed their own styles and characters. Personally I love Anne Rice AND Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, but they are for different age groups. I think adults would relate more to Rice's works because they are written by an adult. Myself, being a teenager, I am more capable of relating to Atwater-Rhodes' characters. So, no need for comparisons.

All in all, I love all of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' books...I've gotten my friends hooked. The only thing is...the "bad vampire" in this book is a male named Aubrey. I must say that is a wonderful name (note my name), but not for a male (note that I am female). Great read if you love vampires.

Summary: Not the best, but good enough
Review: In the Forests of the night is teen writer Amelia Atwater-Rhodes first novel. It may be short but she writes a good story. I find though, she uses to many adjectives, that arent really needed. In the Forests of the night, is the first book about Vampires. Though it is by far not her best wrok read it before reading Demon in my veiw and Shattered mirror (My personal favourites).
Its about the ageless Vampire Risika, and her search for revenge against the Vampire she thinks killed her twin brother.
If you think this books good, read her next few. They're even better.
