Summary: This author really was in the "night" when she wrote this...
Review: I was really displeased with this book. I read it in a matter of hours and Im just 13. The characters were hardly developed and this book was just way too short. It really wasn't that vampiric either, she didnt even talk too much about that fact. Overall, this book is definitley one of the worst ones Ive read.

Summary: Excellent Read
Review: This story is very well written, especially for a girl of her age! I have read many adult books, and yet this one stands out from all the rest. I congratulate Amelia for her strong hold on the English language, though she could have used a more extended vocabulary. Overall, an excellent book, and I plan to read all that this wonderful author comes out with in the future. For it is a very promising future she has yet to live (In my opinion). I highly recommend this book to all those looking for a good vampire book to read. An excellent book overall.

Summary: A different kind of vampire tale...
Review: I really enjoyed this book, however, it took me two readings of this book before I could enjoy it. I've always been a fan of vampire tales and a big fan of the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This book stepped out of bounds from some vampire tales and entered a different world of vampires entirely. However, the plot of the story was a bit weak and wavery. Still, In the Forests of the Night is a great book to read if you want something different from your average vampire tales.

Summary: Congrats Ms. Atwater-Rhodes, but Keep Trying
Review: First of all, I think it's great that Amelia Atwater-Rhodes was able to get published at such a young age, Congrats to her! And I admit, I was drawn to this book because her age. I wanted to see exactly how a 13 year old would go about tackling the immensely overdone topic of vampires. Instead of writing about vampires, though, she ended up inventing her own species entirely. For the most part, that would be alright. I mean, what is the point of writing fiction if you can't create everything the way YOU want it to be. In this instance, however, Atwater-Rhodes' take on vampires strikes me as a sad attempt to make her book new and original. What the reader is given instead is a story lacking in character development and plot. Many words used in the book and themes are very redundant, which is unforgivable considering the book's extremely short length. I honestly feel that Atwater-Rhodes was only published BECAUSE of her age, since this book is seriously lacking in originality and depth. I gave the book 2 stars instead of 1 in hopes that she has improved with her other books and will continue to do so. However, if you want to read a book written by a teenager, check out S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders".

Summary: A true vision ! Outstanding novel!
Review: The young and very gifted writer amelia atwater rhodes gives us a real book with this novel you get to know the character intimately how she remembers her family and her normal life as a human and how she gave it all up for her beloved brother who is presumed dead. this novel is so captivating and original it is hard to believe that it was written by such a young woman. I savor every page each time i read it. This novel is a worth while buy. it is a mixture of hatred and fear, love she has for her former life and how she now lives as a night dweller. in this novel amelia particulary avoids the cliche that is put on vampires her characters can journey into the sun and not go poof. Risika( rachel)the main character in the novel is very fond of crosses and has several hanging in her house. Amelia gives an award winning story of life, death and revenge. This an ultimately captivating novels that takes you into the shadows of the night and keeps you there until the very last page.

Summary: Giving Credit....
Review: Everyone is buzzing about the 13 year-old girl who wrote and published this book. As it turns out, the praise is well-deserved.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has entered the often copied realm of vampire fiction. While she adheres to the elements of the genre that are so popular (the romanticism, the struggle between morality and hunger, the dark escapism of the night), she also strays into her own territory and gives her vampires fantastic new powers. This book, being her first, is also her weakest writing attempt. Maturity improves each subsequent book after this one. I highly recommend reading the series. The author, while young, has a knack for capturing the inner voice of her characters and is a wiz at writing ear-catching prose. An excellent start to a series that is becoming great.

Summary: First book
Review: This is the first book in a semi-series of 3 books.. but its the best one yet. the first one is sort of the prelude to the understanding of the other 2 books, and really explains everything without you knowing it. the other 2 books just support this one. i would reccomend it because its an easy book for kids older than 9 to read, but still good for the high school kids.

Summary: IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT-AMELIA ATWATER-RHODES
Review: Risika a vampire, was once known as Rachel, a young Puritan girl who was taken upon by evil. Now, in the present day, she finds the one that had captured her, Audrey, is back...

Very well written for a 13-year old. The way she did the chapters was interesting, like how one was in the present and the other was in 1706, when she was "turned". Overall it was OK.

Summary: Good Debut, But That's All
Review: In the Forest of the Night

I read "In the Forest of the Night" several months ago. Honestly, I liked it-to a certain extent. It is very well written for a thirteen-year-old. Not to sound callous, but it's the best story telling out of all of her books.

The story telling was original to certain points. The fact that Risika wants to avenge her brother's death is "sweet." At first it is, but when you look at it, it takes several centuries later in present time. It makes no sense that she is still saddened by his death. Such questions arise:

Why now of all times to avenge him?

Why is she still so caught up in it?

It seems she is more [upset] that Aubrey had beaten her in a duel back in the day. It has nothing to do with her brother, it has to do with a poor woman's ego. Yes, woman, technically speaking. She is centuries and has matured into a grown woman trapped in the persona and body of a youth.

That moves onto my next point: unrealism in personality. As we grow older, anyone with common sense knows well we mature. None of Amelia's characters seem to gain a sense of maturity. They act as if they are frustrated teens suffering from which outfit they should choose for their local school dance.

The rogue is fine, but Amelia makes him into an overrated weakling. SPOILER: the fight scene was weak. It was quick and disappointed me.

The characterization...there wasn't any. By the end of the novella I had no idea who Risika was as an individual. I knew she was vengeful, stubborn, and whiny, but you didn't have any hard evidence that she existed as a character.

I forgive Amelia for all of this in this novella, for the fact she was only a pre-teen at the time she wrote this.

Lets move along to the vampirism, as for that I didn't feel like I was reading a vampire fantasy. The "Anne Rice" poetics got on my nerves. It seemed the writer was trying to sound poetic, but failing horribly at it. When characters such as Ather spoke it sounded beyond the stupidity of a mentally challenged. Meaning, some of her characters sounded just like plain vampire wannabes.

Overall Rating 1-10

Style: 4 -- it lacked any sense of capturing the reader and lacked originality. Amelia seemed to fail at creating a style of her own.

Characterization: 6 - the characters were there, but didn't do the novella justice by the end of the story.

Plot: 7 - the sweet story of vengeance, but not quite original. The plot was thin and held several plot holes.

Story Telling: 8 - simple and quick paced, the usual pace of a young adult book. Lets just be glad it wasn't an adult book, or else it would be very low.

Final Rating: 6.2

The novella is average. I would suggest this book for those who hate reading and probably middle school. You could finish the novel in probably a couple of hours, depending on your reading speed. I finished it in two hours, which brings another point, if you want a book that you will be glued to for hours...this is not a suggestion. Find something else.

If you want a challenge, pass this book.

As for those who consider Amelia their favorite writer, do me a favor:

READ MORE! It will do you well. It's obvious you guys have never read other books in your life. Amelia's reputation as "BEST WRITER IN THE WORLD" is laughable. She is an average writer, nowhere near other great authors. I'd suggest Anne Rice or Laurell K. Hamilton if you're a avid dark fantasy fan.

NOTE: By the way, it's "Tyger, Tyger" if I were the poet I'd be offended the lyrics were changed, which is why I only gave her two stars.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very Nicely Done!
Review: This book is both poetic and intriguing, one of the best first-time authors there are. The poem in the beginning is a nice touch (and yes, I do realize she didn't write it). The flashbacks only add to the book's deep plot as a vampire, Risika, deals with human mortality issues. As Aubrey, another vampire, enters the scene, he threatens everything she believes and her one love: a tiger called Tora. This book will keep you reading until the breathtaking climax and deeply felt conclusion.
