Rating: Summary: I Couldn't Believe It Was Written By a Girl My Age! Review: I thought this book was so good. It captured my attention very quickly and held it until the end of the book. I loved Risika, the main character, and the way that there was a mystery hidden in the past. It's an excellent book, and I could not believe that it was written by a girl my age!
Rating: Summary: Impressively Good Review: I first noticed this book before I realized it was written by a young girl. The book drew me in, offering an upbeat story beautifully written. Atwater-Rhodes effortlessly jumps from the past to present, outlining her main character's life subtly. Instead of using lengthy descriptions, she uses dialect and actions to bring out the characters' personalities. There was never a dull moment in the 147 pages of this book.
Rating: Summary: It wasn't really what I expected Review: I picked up this book, hoping for a good read, but found myself not very interested in it. I am an avid reader, especially horror novels, but I found this book to be seriously lacking in some areas. As someone else said, it is a fast read, but I found myself just trying to finish it. Risika seemed to be a very flat character and nothing she did (thoughts or actions) came across as believable. The writing itself wasn't well done and it didn't flow because of too many short choppy sentences. In my opinion if Ms. Atwater-Rhodes hadn't been 14 years old, the hype about this novel wouldn't have been as big because it wasn't that great a book. Maybe her next book will be better.
Rating: Summary: Wow! great stuff for any age writer Review: The smooth flowing fast moving text kept me entranced... I couldn't put it down. What I find most interesting in this vampire teen fiction novel is that the main character is a 300 year old female vampire. In other teen fiction vampire novels I've read (The Silver Kiss; and Look for me by Moonlight) the main characters are girls who fall in love with vampires.Risika (formerly Rachel) is a 300 year old vampire whom is trying to avenge the death of her twin brother Alexander over 300 years ago. Risika tries to keep morals she was brought up with as a girl in the late 1600s and early 1700s. This is almost impossible for her to do however now that she must kill humans to survive.
Rating: Summary: Such a great book! Review: I'll admit I haven't read much horror types book in ages, but this was soooo good! I was puzzled by people disliking this book- I loved it! I thought the author truly explored the whole good/evil thing, and the whole thing was beautiful- beautifully done, beautiful worded, and most of all, it's best quality: captivating. There is no way you want to be teared away from this book, it just grabs you, and you love it.
Rating: Summary: In the forests of the night Review: Risika a 300 year old vampire remembers her past as a 17 year old human. She remembers the events leading up to her being turned into a vampire and the actual event. She is bitter that her humanity was taken from her in such a violent manner. Risika is out to get Aubrey, another vampire, and her arch enemy, whom she thinks killed her twin brother, Alexander, 300 years ago. Risika questions her strength and powers thinking that Aubrey is too strong for her to over power. The novel shifts smoothly between NOW and the early 1700s. A fast paced teen fiction vampire novel which is different from most in that the main character is a vampire not a girl in love with a vampire. This one was hard to put down. I wanted to find out what happened next.
Rating: Summary: In the forests of the night Review: A good teen vampire fiction novel. Different from many in that the main character(Risika) is the vampire not a girl in love with a vampire. We get to see things from a vampire's point of view. Risika is 300 years old and is out to avenge the death of her twin brother Alexander whom she thinks was killed by Aubrey, a vampire and her arch enemy. Risika doubts her strength and powers and only challenges Aubrey after receiving a black rose similar to the one he gave her 300 years ago. It was a very fast read that has a suprising ending.
Rating: Summary: Gave me insparation Review: This book is great for someone 13/14 years old. Infact, it's great for any teenager. I bought the book because the author was my age, and when I read it, I was drawn into the book, but she didn't develop the characters very well. She did make me realize that I could actually get one of the stories I'm working on published. I'm into horror also, except I'm never satisfied with my work. It's so frustrating! I salute you Amelia, for writing a good book and having the patience to get it published. Maybe I'll join you in a few years... look for books about werewolves, teenagers, and maybe a vampire or two.
Rating: Summary: There just wasn't much to it. Review: I read this book with high hopes, but it left me feeling flat. There simply wasn't much substance to this book, and I found myself disappointed. The plot was light, the characters not particularly well developed, and the story was inconsistent. But, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and some people obviously enjoyed it. ;).
Rating: Summary: Mmmmmm..... Review: Well...the book was okay, but...the characters weren't developed enough. Not enough depth throughout the book. I wonder if her next book will be better... I anticipated LOTS of action, but, then too, I am a loyal V.C. Andrews fan, and may I add that Andrews is the best writer in history. Not enough action for me, nothing at all. It was a good try, I have to admit, despite the lack of action and depth. Perhaps her next book will be better. No offense to those of you who thought it was great, but just because she's so young doesn't mean she's any good. Maybe the only reason she was published was because of her age...I mean, a friend of mine is trying to get her book published, but she isn't having any luck and she's fifteen years old. Hopefully my friend can get her book published [It's 220 pages] and have the luck that this girl had. I expect Miss Atwater-Rhodes to possibly improve with her next books. Sorry, you tried, but it just wasn't any good.
