Summary: Enjoyable, but...
Review: I very much enjoyed this book, for what reasons, I don't know. Although, albeit that there were a couple of things about the style of writing. (i.e. some of her intro paragraphs that lead into another scene seem a little out of place and awkward, like she didn't know how to get there.) But, it's a hard thing to do. And for her age, that is very good, I hope someday I might be able to get a book published. It's weird b/c I like this book, yet I don't. It's one of those ones where you don't know if you like it or not, but read it over and over again.

Review: I just read In the Forests of the Night, and I think it lacked something. There were some things that were unexplained, and the very ending was disappointing. Hopefully Ms. Rhodes' books would be more well-written. I wonder how the hype would have been like if this book was written by an adult. Would it considered great, satisfactory, or horrible?

Summary: A good debut novel
Review: In my opinion, this was a very good, suspenseful book. I havebeen writing stories for years and ,judging from this novel,a lot ofwork went into it. The story is set in the past and present and givesan accurate enough representation of both time periods. All of the charactors were painted somewhat faded, but clear enough that the reader will be able to understand their motives and their personalities. I enjoyed this book because it was suspenseful and kept me wondering what would happen next. I read it straight through in about 2 hours because I couldn't make myself put it down. Buy this novel if you haven't already, it's great for anyone, including me and I usually don't like books like this. I hope to be able to read more books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes in the future.

Summary: A nice debut for Atwater-Rhodes
Review: I am an 18 year old girl who read In the Forests of the Night when I was 17. I am also an aspiring writer. I think In the Forests of the Night was a nice debut for the author. It was quite short, and the ending was disappointing, but I liked her use of language and her description. I do think more could have been explained about how Rachel got the name Risika, and more of what she did in those 300 years before the present. I like reading and writing about the whole romanticism and eroticism of vampires, which you won't find in this book. I would recommend this book more for teens closer in age to the author. But overall, I would recommend this book. I admire the fact that she got her book published. I am trying to do the same with mine. So far, I've written one book (roughly 250 pages) and I'm in the middle of my next book, which will probably run about 300-350 pages. I wish Atwater-Rhodes the best of luck in her career. Her writing will get better over time, but she has the talent for it. I have also just received her second book, Demon In My View in the mail today, and I've started reading that.

Summary: Maybe the next will be better
Review: Was it just me or did anyone see that this book lacked a lot? First off, the length of the book was way to short for the story. It seemed to be rushed and simplified. The style of writing was nothing that can stand out in the Young Adult genre (very similiar to Anne Rice's over dramatized style). And the story was the same old vampire-point-of-view tale. I don't really want to start on plot holes, but I will. I lost count after about page 70 on how many times I fell into one of the many plot holes. On a final note, I would like to say that Rhodes will hopefully mature and become more creative over the years. And I am looking forward to see what she has in store for the next novel and will read it.

Summary: I will buy the next book, but...
Review: I am not sure about this one. It reads very fast - not so muchbecause it is enthralling, more because it is spare and lacks realsubstance. In addition, it was quite short, and the author certainly contradicted herself a few times.

That said, I enjoy and support almost all fantasy, horror, and supernatural tales. And I believe that Amelia will improve with age and experience. So, read this book. And her next one! That way, you can form our own opinions. *smile* END

Summary: For those who doubt this book...
Review: I have read many horror and vampire books. This is a very good book. For those who can't look past the fact that the author is a 14 year old (I think it said) and rate it badly because of that apparently aren't very polite. You have to admit, it is a very short book, but it is a first try, and it may seem short to avid readers. But what about such classics like the Red Pony? That book is rather short, is it not? Don't judge a book by its cover, as they say, for many people seem to be doing just that.

Summary: Very good book, but not enough character development
Review: In the Forests of the Night was a really good book in my opinion, being fast paced and action packed. But I felt like I didn't get to know the characters on a personal level at all. Also I didn't get to like any of the characters. I didn't feel like I cared about any of them or about what would happen to any of them.

But I have to admit, it kept me reading. The intense action and adventure didn't allow me to stop reading this book, which was why I gave this book four stars. I also think that it's pretty cool that she wrote it when she was the age that I was last year. I also want to comment that because of her, I was inspired to keep writing. It wasn't enough that my parents and friends told me to keep writing, but seeing that someone my age was able to publish a book inspired me. Now, thanks to Amelia, I have finished my novel and hope to get it published.

When Amelia's second book comes out, be sure that I'm going to go out immediately and buy it! Great going!

Summary: Very very good, could have been longer
Review: I really think this is as good a story as anyone could have told, and told as well as anyone could have told it. There were no missing plot elements, and the characters were fully formed. I think if the novel had been about twice as long it would have been better, because the story leaves you REALLY wanting to know what's going to happen next. To call this a "novel" is a bit of a misnomer...it's more of a novella; 150 or so smallish pages. Took me about 3-4 hours or so to read it at a casual pace. It stings a little to pay $10 (with shipping) for a book that short...

I really hope she continues writing...can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellant first novel by a teenage girl.
Review: This book would be excellant even if the author hadn't written it when she was just thirteen. Risika/Rachel was a great character; forced to make agonizing moral choices as a 300-year-old vampire while at the same time hunting the vampire she believes killed her brother in the late 1600s. She must face who she is and the fact she is partly responsible, and learn the truth about revenge and what really happened 300 years ago when she was turned. A wonderful first effort; I can't wait for Ms. Atwater-Rhodes's second novel.
