Rating: Summary: Should be required reading for those aspiring to be parents Review: First things first, this is not a Backstreet Boys biased review.
Rather, it's a long-time-comming story of a mothers love for her child that was AFFORDED some well-deserved publicity by the Backstreet Boys' stardom. There are so many "How to" books on child rearing that line the shelves, and some contradict others.
Listen folks, child rearing is not something that is as simple as baking a cake. Here Jane Carter shares with - yes Backstreet fans, particularly Nick Carter fans - about how she helped her son cultivate and attain his dream. She shares of how she would teach him the things he would need to know to make it in life and oh yes, of how she loved her son, and thats the sweetest part about this story - a mother's love for her son (or daughter).
Listen parents, and parents to be. You bring children into this world, so don't expect schools alone to educate your kids. It's up to you, your kids belong to you and will trust you first in their lives. This is why I find this book very good reading whether it's about a Backstreet Boy or an aspiring Bronco football player.

Rating: Summary: Jane U R A Star!!!! Review: Hey! I'm a 13 year old girl from Australia. I've loved the Backstreet Boys for ages and you would not beleive how obbsessed I am with the guys. 1st of all, I'm not really a Nick Carter fan. My fave is Brian. But my friend Karla is totally in love with Nick. She was the one who actually bought the book and she told me that it was very very very very GOOD!! So I borrowed it from her and after I finished reading it, I thought that Mrs Carter is 1 in a million. The book made me cry, laugh, and it even surprised me. In all these 13 years of my life, I have never actually been interested in reading books, but somehow this book changed all that. I told my mum about the book and asked her if she could buy it 4 me. When she bought it, she read it and said "This is a great book, and I hope that a lot of mothers read it and feel the same way Jane does about her kids." My mum never was interested in the BSB, but now she knows a lot about them and when ever I start a conversation with my mum about the BSBs, she actually knows what I am talking about. Thanks again Mrs Carter. Love ya Nick!!!! oxxo
Rating: Summary: Nick Gene Carter's Heart and Soul Review: Hey, wutz up y'alls? This book is really awesome! I'm not a Backstreet Boys fan, the book wasn't even mine. I only read it 'cuz I was really bored and I had nothing else to do, but when I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I think I read it in 3 hours. Anyways, I love the part where he seranaded his mom while he was on a tree stump, I think that was really sweet & cute. Nick went through a lot of hardship and rejections but he kept on going with a little help from his mom and I think that says a lot about his personality. I used to not like the BSB 'cuz I thought they were just a bunch of guys w/ pretty faces and no talent, but I was wrong. I know now that Nick Carter is more than just a pretty face and a sexy smile =-)
Rating: Summary: Ehhh Review: I bought this book hoping that I would learn about Nick and what he's really like. Instead I read the words of an arrogant mother that is taking all the credit for her son being where she is. SHE did this, SHE did that, SHE played Super mom. Blah blah blah. This book is all about what SHE did to get Nick where he is, not really what NICK did to get where he is. Although there are some really adorable pictures, I don't recommend the book. It's all a mother tooting her own horn and talking about being the perfect mother. And PLEASE don't get me wrong. I adore Nick Carter....
Rating: Summary: his mother being arrogant? Review: I don't think she was being arrogant at all. She is very proud of Nick, besides would he be in the Backstreet Boys if not for his mother taking him to his singing practices and dance practices? I think she deserves to brag. She is one of the main reasons he is in BSB, but you don't realize that. He wouldn't be if his mom hadn't have taken him to his practices and how would he have met up with Howie and AJ if not for his mom? He couldn't drive at the age of 13! I love this book and I learned a few new things about Nick like from his favorite Christmas songs to how he had grown up and she also tells about their move to Florida. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about Nick, even his family.
Rating: Summary: As a BSB fan you have to read it some time.................. Review: I have got the book and I like the writing style and to know the facts as a BSB fan. I kinda think it's wrong to get money out of someone else his succes, but on the other hand it ain't lies and Nick knew of and agreed with it, so as not such a big fan anymore (NO I didn't become a hater) I would suggest it, but not too much.
Rating: Summary: Honest, loyal, and true...the best Nick Carter book around. Review: I love the Backstreet Boys and I've been a huge fan since '97, and I'm an even MORE huger fan of Nick Carter. THE HEART AND SOUL OF NICK CARTER: SECRETS ONLY A MOTHER KNOWS is one of the best books you can find on Nick Carter. Though it's a little out-dated now I believe (the book was made in like, '98 and the Backstreet Boys since then have done a lot more plus made two new albums MILLENNIUM and BLACK & BLUE), I still think this book gives an accurate bio of Nick and his amazingly talented family. There is not one dull or boring moment while reading this book. Jane Carter carefully describes what their family life was like both in the past and present, along with the ancestors and family relatives. When you're reading this book, you really do feel like you're apart of the "Carter Clan", as Jane calls her family. You'll laugh and cry and cheer throughout this book. And even though I'm a huge fan and have never been to a Backstreet concert or seen them live in person, I now feel a lot closer to Nick Carter, and not just him, but to Kevin, AJ, Brian, and Howie as well. Jane Carter also writes about the troubles she and Nick went through while going to auditions, performing in front of audiences during Nick's pre-Backstreet years, and even meeting AJ and Howie for the first time. She also writes about the very first song Nick ever sang to her - "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" - and why that was so important to her. She writes about the ups and downs her family had to go through to help Nick achieve his dream as a successful entertainer, which I think he has now successed! Besides, the fabulous well-written bio, she also adds a ton of family photos for us fans to look at and enjoy and even a Nick Carter quiz at the ending (I took it and got a perfect score without even looking at the answers!). This book will answer all of your Nick Carter questions. And though it may only be for Nick Carter fans, I'm sure many Backstreet fans will enjoy this as well. I actually think you don't even need to be a Backstreet fan to enjoy this book. Maybe if you read it you would understand Nick Carter and his Backstreet fellas and would start to appreciate him more and see him as a real person. I also don't think Jane Carter brags about her son; she is proud of his major accomplishments and what he has done for the family. And she isn't afraid to show it. I think Jane Carter and Bob Carter are the perfect role models for parents everywhere. They show love and affection to their family and to each other. They try to help achieve their childrens' dreams and do not discourage them. They do not do drugs or commit violence or abuse each other or their children. The Carter Clan is a beautiful family and very gifted and talented. I think they should all be respected and people should stop trashing them because that is just wrong when you don't even know a thing about them. Maybe after you read THE HEART AND SOUL OF NICK CARTER you will change your mind about trashing this family and start to respect them. Great read. I loved all the photos. If you're a fan of books then this is definitely one you must try!
Rating: Summary: The book was very well written I learned a lot by reading it Review: I thought Mrs. Carter did an excellent job in writing this book. It was very realistic and she was very specific on details everytime she would write about when Nick was a little boy. Her stories were so cute. My favorite story about Nick she wrote about was when he was singing "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" on the tree stump. She knew exactly what she wanted to say and how to say it. It was very interesting and never a dull moment in their many adventures. I thought it was sad when she wrote acout how she used to live. But I'm glad that everything worked out at the end.
Rating: Summary: Only For TRUE Nick Carter Fans! Review: I'll be completely honest: If I weren't such an obsessed Backstreet Boys fan, I would consider this book (bad). It's not well-written, it wanders and meanders to the point it doesn't make sense, and it's very self-serving. However, being an obsessed Backstreet Boys/Nick Carter fan, I love the book. The first few chapters are the best, because they read more like a story than a biography. Plus, they told me the most about Nick that I didn't already know. Near the end, however, it turns into a "How to Turn Your Kid Into a Star" how-to manual. BORING! BOTTOM LINE: LOVE Nick Carter? Buy the book. LIKE Nick Carter? Borrow it from a friend or the library. COULDN'T CARE LESS about Nick Carter? Avoid this book like the plague.
