Summary: Queer Goings On In The Shrubbery
Review: I remembered this book from my childhood as magical. Rereading it as an adult I simply found it dull.

Perhaps only a gay man would notice how frequently the words "queer" or "queerest" appear throughout the text. If you are straight and you didn't notice - believe me it is used ad nauseum. Didn't they have proof readers back then?!

Summary: why i disliked secret garden
Review: This book was a bad book because i`m a guy and it is a girl book after all. I mean it was a well written book, but i mean come on i`m a guy. You should have at least put in a little action or somethin so that i wouldn`t have been so bored. If you had done this then I wouldn`t be giving you such a horrible review. Mary is such a little girl who has no puirpose if you ask me. You should have made tthe main character a little more exciting, daring, and adventurous. I know that Martha speaks Yorkshire, but it was so confusing to try and interpret what she was trying to say and it made me just want to skip iover what she was saying. Iknow that you won`t liuke this review, but the book could have been more action packed. Thankyou!

Summary: A classic for all ages
Review: Still in print after almost a century (it was originally published in 1909, though it seems to be set during late-Victorian times) and well-deserving of the honor, this may not be the best known of Burnett's juveniles, but it's certainly the *best*, and the most accessible to a modern audience. It's also one of those books that can still be enjoyed whether you're eight or 88--as all the very best juvenile books are.

"Mistress Mary Quite Contrary"--Mary Lennox, daughter of an officer in the Raj--is orphaned by the cholera and sent to live in Yorkshire at the home of an uncle she's never met. Misselthwaite Manor, like its adult cousin Wuthering Heights, is a gloomy if splendid old pile and full of strangeness and secrets. Long accustomed to emotional self-sufficiency, Mary may not be sympathetic at the outset, but she's probably the only kind of child who could prosper in this neglectful environment. Her first friends are Ben Weatherstaff, the grumpy senior gardener, Martha Sowerby, the chambermaid assigned to her, and "our Dickon," Martha's free-roaming brother who loves and charms all animals. But it's "the robin"--a very special little redbreast who may be more than he appears--who leads her to the walled rose garden where her transformation takes place. In resurrecting it from its decade of neglect, she finds herself--and learns the wisdom that enables her to save her cousin Colin, a bedridden invalid whose great fear is that he will become a hunchback.

Burnett skillfully portrays the gradual change in character that comes to Mary and Colin and succeeds in the difficult task of transforming them from unsympathetic to thoroughly normal, likeable children. Her underlying themes are the redemptive quality of nature and the idea that it is never too late to overcome one's faults, yet they're so subtly presented that young readers will find the book simply a fascinating, well-told story. Like many classics, it would make a perfect family read-aloud, and should be found on the bookshelf of every child in the land.

Summary: Discovery the mystery of the secret garden.
Review: When Mary Lennox came to live at Misselthwaite Manor she was said to be "the most disagreeable child ever seen." It was true however but that was all going to change.
Mary made friends with the gardener Ben Weatherstaff's robin. But this was no ordinary robin. The robin showed Mary where the key to a mysterious garden was hidden. He also showed her where the door to the secret garden was hidden under the ivy. She was the first person to explore the garden in ten years!
Soon there were others that were in on her secret. Dickon, the adventurous Yorkshire boy, was the first to share the secret. Dickon showed Mary how to care for the garden. Then Mary heard a mysterious crying noise in the night. It turned out to belong to her frail cousin Colin. Soon he was in on the secret too.
Colin decided it would be exciting to go into the secret garden with his friends. That's when the magic begins. If you like secrets and magic, this book by Frances Hodgson Burnett is the book for you.

Summary: The Secret Garden
Review: I read The Secret Gerden when I was in the fifth grade. The book was a combination of realistic fiction and mystery. I was always looking for clues to explain the next chapter.I was so engrossed in the book that I read 30 pages every half an hour!
The whole plot of The Secret Garden was about a girl named Mary Lennox, an orphaned, disagreable looking, girl, who needed some action in her life. And she reached her goal. She was ten when she moved to her Uncle's house on a moor in Yorkshire. One of the housemaids, Martha, showed her around, and told Mary stories about her family that Mary enjoyed. On of Martha's brothers, Dickon, was an animal charmer and a nice, perfect boy who Mary fancyed that Mary finally met. He helped her uncover and bring to life a huge secret. This secret can not be shared with you, you'll have to find out yourself.Mean while, when Mary was sleeping at night, a childs cry woke her up. On day she investigated the noise. She found another secret on her way, a secret corrider. Will Mary find out who is screaming? If so, what should she do about it? Will Dickon and Mary succeed in bringing the secret alive?
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading exciting adventures. My opinion on The Secret Garden is that out of five stars I would give it 5 stars, because it was so fun to read, and I didn't want to stop!

Summary: The Secret Garden
Review: The Secret Garden written by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a nice little story about Mary Lennox who has to live with her uncle in England. While she starts finding friends she discovers the secret Garden which was locked for ten years. She spends a lot of time in the Garden and brings it back to life.
She discovers more in this strange place she lives in, she finds her cousin. Everybody at Missletwait Manor thinks he is sick and not able to walk, Mary shares her secret (the garden) with him and he starts recovering from the sicknes he build in his head.
Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote about the journey of a little girl that had forgotten how to be a child and rediscovered the joy of playing. In my opinion she used for this Novel to many detailed descriptions of flowers, but the story still stays in the front.
