Rating: Summary: Everyone loves a Secret Review: The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a most fantastic fiction story to read! I find myself a little like one of the main characters, Mary Lennox. She likes adventure, and loves to play out doors. Mary Lennox was sent to live in her Uncle Craven's mansion, because her parents died in India from cholera. Mary meets many people at the mansion like Ms. Medlock described as Mr. Craven's mean old maid. Mary and Ms. Medlock do not get along. Ms. Medlock is always telling Mary to stay out of trouble. As the story unfolds, she also meets Martha Sowerby, who becomes Mary's servant and trustworthy friend. She also meets the gardener, who introduces her to the robin bird that sings her songs. Mary later meets Dickon, a friendly boy that could communicate with animals. A little while after she meets Mr. Craven Mary Lennox gets curious, and discovers a mysterious person behind one of the walls in the mansion. She meets all these characters on her adventure to find the secret garden. This book had great illustrations. It had many hooks from the beginning to the end. It was a well written book. I would've liked to seen colored pictures instead of black and white. I wouldn't change anything about the characters personalities, or what happens to them, because they were all happy in the end. The author Frances Hodgson Burnett must have loved nature and gardening. Two of her classic books The Little Princess, and The Secret Garden have been favorites to many people. Just before her death she said, "With the best that was in me I have tried to write more happiness into the world." I would recommend this book to anyone from age 9 and up. If you love to read adventure, mystery, or drama, then pick up this book from your local library. You will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: The secret Garden review by Beverly!!!!!!! Review: Beverly barnard The author of the book is Frances Hodgson Burnett she written the novel called The Secret Garden. Dell Publishing Co. in the year of 1911 published the book. The theme of the book was basically loneliness. A girl had been abandoned from her parents and had to live with her uncle. Her cousin hardly ever sees his uncle. This lonely kid always felt as if he would die. This little girl named Mary Lennox tries to help him. It all changes when she discovers a magical garden. The book was very cool. It is a sad touching story how a magical garden can bring family back together. Mainly if you have an experience of being lonely and felt like no one ever cared for you then The Secret Garden is the right book to read. Honestly the book relates to a lot of teenage kids in the world today because for teenage kids that may be locked up in the room and feel very lonely to the point they feel as death will creep upon them. That someday they will find a garden with magical powers to bring them to join with other people. I would recommend this book to everyone because it was an adventure, descriptive, amazing, magical book I loved it and I hope anyone else who reads it will enjoy it to.
Rating: Summary: The Secret Garden a review by Samantha Review: What would you do if both of your parents died, and you were told you are moving to England? Well, the protagonist, Mary Lennox from The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgston Burnett, doesn't care. She was never loved, and her mother was a party girl. Mary was always spoiled by maids, and treated like a princess. She never really knew her mother, but was confused and embittered about the move to England, too. But Mary will soon find out the magic one garden can hold and how much she turns out to care for others. When Mary arrives at Misslethwait Mansion, she soon meets Martha, her maid. At first, Martha is surprised to learn Mary cannot dress herself because of being so spoiled. Martha teaches her, and tries to be nice, but Mary wants nothing to do with her. After a while, though, Mary gets bored and decides to listen to Martha. Mary likes the way Martha talks, with her Yorkshire accent, and is now interested in what Martha has to say about a secret garden. It has been locked up for ten years, and no one has been in it since. Mary loves the idea of having her own magical garden, and decides to search for it. While staying at the mansion for about five months, Mary finds out more and more each and every day. Martha always talks about her younger brother Dickon, who loves nature. Mary would love to meet him, but just doesn't know how because he lives so far away. Finally, she figures that if she ever did find the secret garden, she would need tools to work in it. So Mary sends money to Dickon, who picks them up, and walks them over to her. At first sight, Mary thinks Dickon looks strange, and has the prettiest blue eyes. It seems as though they have turned that color from him always staring at the sky. But the more Mary sees Dickon, the more she likes him. I recommend and encourage you to read The Secret Garden. This book is filled with magic, enchantment, and new friends. You should never judge a book by its cover, as Martha did at first sight of Mary, because the inside of that book could be a whole lot more wonderful, as Mary was.

In the story The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett, Mary finds a secret garden and tells only whom she can trust. With the help of some friends Mary works on the garden. But can she keep the secret and never get caught? First Mary, the protagonist, heard a crying sound. The sound came and faded like the wind. In a slow gait she walked through the empty halls. Mary found a little boy. Why is he crying? Mary finds that the boys' name is Colin and he is her uncles' son. Mary then talks to Colin and tells him about better things he can do with his life instead of crying in his bed. Then Colin tells Mary what he is worried about. Read the book and find out what! In another scene Mary walked in the gardens. The robin led her somewhere. Mary had no clue where he was leading her but trusted the bird and followed. Mary found a key. Who buried it? Rating: Summary: The Secret Garden a review by Jenelle Review: The Secret Garden Have you ever discovered a place that has been locked up for a long time? If so, then you can relate to The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Mary Lennox, the protagonist, moves from India to Misselthwaite, England because her parents die of cholera. She lives with her cousin Colin Craven, who thinks he's a cripple and believes he is never going to walk. Mary tries to convince him that he's not a cripple. The children meet Dickon, a local boy who they call the animal charmer. Together they find a magical world inside a garden. Mary, Dickon, and Colin find the garden left alone and locked. They find a key with the help of Robin and then start to garden without anyone knowing it. Mary and Colin are very frail like a toothpick, but then they grow because the fresh air makes them well. Dickon is a teacher because he shows them how to garden. Then, on a rainy day, Mary and Colin go into rooms in the house that are locked up and they learn about their ancestors. In Colin's room Mary sees a portrait hidden under a tarpaulin. She opens it and sees picture of Colin's mother (Mrs. Craven). Mary asks Colin why it is covered and he tells her that he doesn't want to see her because she reminds him of his father and how he is mad at him because he will be a hunchback. Finally, Mary and Colin learn to overcome their tantrums and the fears of never seeing their parents again. When the children are in the garden, they were caught by one of the gardeners. However, he said that he wouldn't tell because he himself had been inside the garden. Read to find out if the children ever get caught in the garden again, or if Colin ever walks. Ladies and gentlemen, I invite and encourage you to read The Secret Garden.

Rating: Summary: The Secret Garden a review by Rachel Review: Mary finds the key and opens the door that hasn't been opened for ten years in the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This book tells you to keep-looking, keep going, and that people can change. Mary, the protagonist, is a rude little girl. Mary changes throughout this story like a sour grape to a glass of sweet grape juice. She needs a friend to change her. Have you ever met someone who was rude and mean but they became your friend? In this story, that person would be Mary. Dickon and Mary met and became friends right away. Dickon taught Mary how to garden and they gardened together in the gardens that belonged to where Mary lived. One night the protagonist, Mary, heard crying. However, her maid told her it was only the wind. A few nights later she heard crying again. This time her maid, Martha, shut the door nervously and told Mary it was only the wind again. One night she goes and looks for the thing that is crying. She gets closer and closer until she's outside the door of the thing crying. Will Mary open the door and look inside? If she does open the door what will be inside? What is in the Secret Garden and what is waking up Mary with their crying? I invite you to read this book! Every chapter will leave you hanging!
Rating: Summary: The Secret Garden a review by Ryan Review: Did you ever go to your uncle's house, and have nothing to do? Mary Lennox from the Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett did just that because her family had a terrible decease except for Mary, so she was sent from India to her uncle's house in England. One day she finds a key that leads to the Secret Garden, but she has a task to perform because she has to find the door first, and in her uncle's house has a least one hundred doors. Mary finds the right one, and she wonders why the garden wouldn't grow. One of my favorite events is when her family dies because of a horrible disease that spread around in her old house. Her mother and father, and all of her servants died, all accept Mary. I can't imagine what that would feel like. Then she goes to an orphanage, but she doesn't like it there, because the kids are calling her names. I don't think anybody likes being called names. Next she goes to her uncle's house, and hardly likes it there, because nothing is the same like it was in her old house. She finds Dickon, a boy who lives outside with the gardener. He loves the outdoors, and he shows her the way to the Secret Garden. One day in the garden she meets a robin. Everyday the robin is on the wall, until he sees something shiny. Is it the key or something else? Find out when you read the Secret Garden.

Rating: Summary: The Secret Garden- Reviewed by Julie Dodd Review: An enchanting tale of finding true happiness in the early 1900's, This book written by Frances Hogson Burnett casts a spell on the reader creating utter joy or surprise. First of all, When all Mary Lennox hears throughout the palace in India are screams of terror and pain she shuts herself in her playroom and sleeps for days. At last, officers are making sure there are no survivors of the dreadful disease when they find a young, sour-faced child who was appaerently the mistress' daughter though she was much more beautiful. At that she is sent away to England to live with her wealthy uncle, Lord Craven, at Misselthwaite Manor. On her voyage the other children on the ship taunt her with the nursery rhyme 'Mistress Mary quite contrary....' She is finally picked up from the station by a woman she soon learns is her uncle's servant. The long carraige ride to Misselthwaite Manor is filled with silence except for a few remarks. The many days at the manor are the same until crying in one of the hundred rooms!!! Quickly, Martha (A servant who tends to Mary) puts Mary in her room and tells her that the cook has a toothache and to not come out of the room. Of course, before this she had thought she heard crying, just like this but softer, Martha had dismissed the idea and said it was the wind though Mary knew she was lying. Between these events, Mary is getting color in her cheeks, playing in the moor, and becoming an all around more agreeable child. When she finally meets Dickon, Martha's brother, she has found the secret garden which Ben Weatherstaff told her about. It was shut up after Lord Craven died. Dickon and Mary visit the garden every day as it gets closer to springtime. The garden grows with more life every day! So when she hears the crying a third time in the middle of the night she decides to investigate. What she finds out is most shocking!!! She finds that this crying is coming from an ill little boy who is ten just like her and who is her cousin! Lord Craven never wanted to see him because he looked just like his mother, and Colin (cousin) screamed and threw tantrums. By the time they get to know each other Mrs. Medlock (woman who picked Mary up) had found out. Colin then ordered for them not to tell his father. Also, Mary has lied about the garden telling him what it looks like but saying that's only what she thinks. She'd become the only person who could calm his hysterics. Eventually she came clean about it all and Dickon, Mary, and Colin set out for the garden. Colin ordered for everyone to be inside on their outing and told no one where they were to go. Now, everyday they'd meet in the garden, except when Lord Craven was in town, which was a rare thing! Colin was learning to walk, he wanted to march up to his father and just yell,"Loook!! I'm not a cripple or a hunchback!" So one day Lord Craven is away and has a dream of his past wife. She is yelling, "In the garden! I'm in the Garden!" He immediately rushes home with a strange feeling, meanwhile Colin is winning a race across the secret garden when he bursts out he almost tumbles in to his father!! All of the servants are amazed when Colin walks up to the house since he has been hiding it from them. So ends a masterpiece novel about finding true happiness, anyone who reads this book shall be satisfied!
