Review: On her website, Sarah Dessen claims that this book is her favorite of hers because it describes how she was when she was a waitress.Colie is a young lady who has a famous mother (she has weightloss products galore) and she lost a lot of weight. In the beginning of her life she moved a lot but now she stayed in one place. When she finally lost weight she was caught with a boy looking at the stars but was thought to be having sex with this young man. She has been called very nasty names and is hated by just about everyone. One summer her mother makes her spend time at her eccentric aunt's home and she finds out what it is like to actually have friends. In this book Dessen shows how she feels and this is a coming age story.

Keeping the moon by Sarah Dessen is a wonderful story of self-discovery. As you read of a girls journey of finding herself you just can't help, but do the same. It's definitely focused on a different topic compared to other books by this author, but it's worth it. Keeping the moon is an unforgettable, inspiring, story, that you'll be bound to read again.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Colie gets a "second chance" at Last Chance Review: Keeping the Moon is the story of a teenager, Colie, who travels to a small town called Colby to visit her Aunt Mira. She has low expectations for the summer ahead, a terrible reputation back home, a hard life behind her, a famous fitness guru for a mother, and a lip ring that doesn't make matters any better. Little does she know that during her stay at Colby, Colie will "find herself." She will make true friends, stand up for herself, and find comfort in who she really is. Upon her arrival, Colie finds it hard to settle into Aunt Mira's old, house full of broken appliances and unusable furniture. So, to pass the time, she accepts a job from a town restaurant called Last Chance. There she meets Isabel, Morgan, and Nolan. By watching the relationship between Isabel and Morgan, two best friends with opposite personalities, she realizes that she is not the only person with problems and is able to confide her problems in them. Isabel and Morgan show her that she can be pretty both on the outside and the inside and they help her see the unobvious. Does Nolan's sunglass collection shade his quiet, kind personality from those who really deserve to befriend him? Why does Aunt Mira seem to not hear all of the snide comments being said behind her back? How can anyone resist standing up for themselves when their enemy speaks poorly of them? These questions are answered as all of the unique characters, who each contribute so much to the plot, finally give Colie a "second chance" at Last Chance.

Anyways, this book is excellent. Sarah Dessen is a great writer, check out her other books.
Colie is a girl who used to be fat and ugly and considered [...]. She was an outcast, and never stuck around long enough to make any real friends. Her mother used to be fat as well, until she began an aerobics program. Eventually, her mother became famous and had to tour in Europe so she sent Colie to spend a nice summer with aunt Mira.
I liked this story, because it encourages people to 'stand up for themselves'. Colie took in every insult that came her way and didn't do anything about it. She let herself be put down and felt sorry for herself. In other words, she was like a kicked dog. The summer she spends at last Chance Bar and Grill changes her life, as she slowly gains courage and confidence in herself to finally kick back.
If you are looking for a light romantic, lazy-summer-day read, this is a good pick. It is a story about finding courage and strength to fight back and believe in yourself.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Real Keeper Review: Desses's novel of a girl who comes into her own over one summer is a book that really resonates with young adults. I read this book when I was in middle school and now five years later I still find myself coming back to it. Collie is a fifteen-year-old girl who has had to deal with self-esteem problems all her life due to the fact that she was overweight and the taunting that was inflicted upon her. She dosen't know how life could get better untill she spends the summer with her odd ball aunt and learns the true meaning of friendship and self-worth. The emotions that Collie lives through are emotions that I think all teenagers go through at some point, in various degrees, and can all relate to it. Her realizations on the importance of self-esteem and respecting herself are, in a word, beautiful and inspire the young reader to examine their own lives, "Because it is so hard, in any life, to believe in what you can't fully understand."
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A good read, not her best though Review: I enjoyed reading this book, though I found it a little on the boring side. It had a great meaning and I felt like I could really relate to Colie, but I think This Lullaby is still her best novel.
I still would highly recommend Keeping the Moon if you enjoy Sarah's work - she is an amazing novelist!
