Summary: This was a great book!
Review: This book was probably one of the best books I've ever read!
It is about a girl named Harry who is taken from her home by the native king, Corlath. She learns of her magical powers and learns how to wield a sword. It's a great book!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: great girl hero, but first few chapters drag
Review: Unfortunately, Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword takes some time to pique your interest. This is why I gave it only 3 stars. The initial setting has the feel of the Victorian English settlers in India or Africa. The first few chapters go by slowly, and you may wish to put it down. Don't. The friend who recommended this assured me that the story would grow more interesting very shortly, and it did. More detail than that would give away the story.

McKinley's female role models are her strong point, and the main character is no exception. She is not portrayed as particularly beautiful, the book prefers to focus on her quick learning and athletic ability. Also, there are numerous male/female relationships that are *not* love relationships. The one love relationship is rather untraditional - between an older man and the young girl, but it is kept rather chaste so that the book is appropriate for young readers.

Summary: great book!
Review: Angharad Crewe, called Harry or Hari, is an orphan living in Damar. One night, she is stolen from her room by the king of the Hillfolk. She is taken so he can use her in the Hillfolk's war against the north. She is taught how to fight and comes to love the hillfolk. There is a big battle and a love story and adventure and everything that makes a good book. I highly recommend it. (Oh, hint though, Corlath is not old. He's young. I didn't realize that until late and it totally ruined my perception)

Summary: Can I have 6 stars??
Review: This is my very favorite book. In seventh grade, we had had to read The Hero and the Crown for a core novel. I loved that book too, so I started reading all of Robin McKinley's books. They all rock. This is my favorite of her books, and of every book I've ever read, which increases by two at least every week. Anyways, in the Blue Sword, Harry Crewe is an orphan who travels to thhe edge of her country to be with her brother. This country borders Daria, the land from the Hero and the Crown where Aerin and Tor met and fell in love. For some reason Harry feels connected to the desert land, and loves it more than anything she ever has before. When the Darian king, Corlath comes to try and get the help of her land, she meets him. While he's walking by her in his haste to leave, their eyes meet. Because Corlath has "powers", he knows that Harry in involved in his future. So he comes back and kidnaps her, bringing her to his land, where her destiny lays. I can't really tell much more about the plot, because that would give away the book. Even though I've already told a lot, this is probably the first 15 or 20 pages. There's a lot of action and romance in this book, which I think ends the book perfectly. I recommend this book to any fantasy lover. Even though The Hero and the Crown was published after this book, you have to read The Hero and the Crown first.

Summary: Not just for Children
Review: The Blue Sword is a story of the world of Damar. It is a story of kings and queens, a story of magic, it is a tale of love. It cannot be explained - just enjoyed. I highly recommend this for readers of all ages.

My English teacher first introduced Robin McKinley to me. Not personally - but in paperback. It was the Hero & the Crown. I was amazed. I then went on to the Blue Sword. Then Beauty & now I'm totally hooked. I'm also not a kid anymore, but I still love her stories.

Summary: Not Only About Orange Juice
Review: The first time I started the book, my sister got it out on tape and we listened to it in the car. I stoped listening because it sounded like it was about orange jucie. When I read other Robin McKinley books in seventh grade, I picked "The Blue Sword" up again. I admit I had to push my way through the first few chapters, but after thaat I couldn't put it down. All the characters are so likable. I enjoyed this book so much I had to go and buy my own copy just so other people could read the library's copy. This is a great book.

Summary: One of the most wonderful books ever
Review: I got this book as a gift and was not to impressed by its description. One day while I was really bored I decided to start it. Once I did I couldn't stop. McKinley creates a whole world with her characters. Damar is a world that draws you in and never lets you go. I still think about this book four months after reading it! Harry is a young girl, living with friends of her brothers. She isn't happiest of all there but it is her life. Then that life is turned upside down and inside out when the king of the wild hill people pays a visit. The king can't get Harry out of his mind and finally turns around and kidnaps her. There she is taken to a whole new society, whole new ways of life, a whole new language. She must learn all of this and must also learn that she has a reason for being there. She must save the hill people. This book is a must read.

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: This book is so incredible. The story is a simple one but the author has out so much effort into creating the characters that you can really empthathize with them. You feel so victoriuos when Hari-mas-Sol ... You feel keenly the King's displeasure when she tries to speak her mind. It was all so wonderful! But don't take my word for it...give it a try yourself!

Summary: A great book - one of my favorites!
Review: This is one of my favorite books - one I love to read over and over. In my opinion, it is much better and more enjoyable than its prequal. The book is not at all predictable, and is full of fascinating magic, exciting plot twists, and great characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone - whether you're a fantasy lover or just trying it out.

Summary: I read this book at least once a year
Review: I have loved this book since the first time I read it, over 16 years ago. Have read it at least once a year since the first time. Everyone who borrows this book has loved it (including 20 year old college guys.) A wonderful read for kids, but still captures my imagination.
