Rating: Summary: My All Time Favorite Book Review: The first time I picked up this book I was in grade 4. My father had bought it for his English Class through Tab/Arrow. At first I think I was still too young for it so I put it away. One day when I was in grade 7 I picked up The Blue Sword again. Wow! I couldn't believe that I had put it away the first time. Harry is so likeable and her adventures so exciting. McKinley creates amazingly real and wonderful characters. I read The Blue Sword so many times that my original copy (I should say my Dad's) fell apart and I had to buy a new one. Now I read it at least once a year and still love it. I'm at University now not grade 7 and I still consider it one of my all time favorite books. ***For another amazing series please read Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books. The best place to start in this 19 book series is with The Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight and Arrow's Fall. You won't be able to put them down either!!!
Rating: Summary: this is a great book!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I loved this book soooo much! I read this first, then the hero and the Crown and though that book was good, I loved the blue Sword sooo much more than all R. mckinly's others! (But read the Hero and the Crown and Beauty, too!!) This book was soo great, I read it two years ago and made all my friends read it. It just convayes such an amaising feeling about it! Read it!
Rating: Summary: girl discovers power wins a war and a man Review: The Blue Sword is the best book I've ever read. It has everything: love hate fantasy adventure war and peace Something for everyone and you don't get lost in the plot. If you read this book and like it I reccomend The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley and the Bazil Broketail series by Christopher Rowley.
Rating: Summary: Fantasy that even a grown-up can enjoy Review: I discovered Robin McKinley (A Knot in the Grain) at a fairly advanced age, but found her books surprisingly enthralling -- this from someone who, as a child and teenager, hated most "young adult" books! What I find most enjoyable is that she creates psychologically "real" characters (even if they're ogres or magicians) and plausible conflicts, then uses the magic to enhance the situation rather than as a "cheat" whenever the plot starts to flag. (This is in contrast to the usual Hollywood approach: throw in enough special effects, and no one will notice that the plot is absurd!) The conflicts that Harry experiences -- a sense that she's out of place in her own family, feeling unattractive, not sharing the interests of "conventional" girls her age -- are experienced by many girls. Many women have difficulties expressing anger, and Harry's struggles with her "kelar" are something we can relate to. Most importantly, she learns to listen to the inner voice that tells her "You're meant for a greater fate than this," and finds it a reliable guide -- and that's a lesson many of us don't learn until late in life.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER!!!! Review: "The Blue Sword" is the best book I have ever read. Ever since I first picked it up in 7th grade I couldn't stop thinking of it. It has all the great combinations of love and adventures that add together to make a truly excelent story. The writer uses great descriptions that let you feel the character's , Harry, feelings yourself. And you feel as if you are experiencing them. It is a truly awesome book that I recomend to everyone of any age!
Rating: Summary: This book is one of my favorite books I have ever read! Review: I loved this book because it described everything perfectly. The author put the right amount of emotions, confusion, love, excitment, and integrity through out the whole book.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful epic-fairytale quality Review: Her words spin a gossamer epic, with wonderful characters and an introspective hero. If you have not read this book, no matter how old you are, you should!
Rating: Summary: BEST MCKINLEY BOOK EVER!! Review: This is my all time favorite book of McKinley's. The rich atmosphere and wonderful charectars winds up well. I ecspecially love the first line or two. McKinley has a special way to combine adventure, fantasy, heroins, animals, magic, great details and great plots all into one bundle of perfect reading material. I suggest you read this before her other book, "The Hero and the Crown". I'd love to see another Damar book, ecspecially about the legands of Aerin. I love the name Aerin now. I picked it up in third grade and have loved it since!
Rating: Summary: I love it. Review: I really liked the Blue Sword and its companion, The Hero and the Crown. Deerskin also seems to go along with these novels. I heard that TBS and THATC were part of a trilogy, but I don't know what the third book is. If you know, email me!
Rating: Summary: You won't be able to put it down. Review: "The Blue Sword" is about Angharad -- Harry -- Crewe, a recently orphaned young lady who moves to the desert area of the continent Damar. By chance she locks eyes with Corlath, the Hill-King, who had come to visit the residency. It was, perhaps, fate, but it changes their lives forever. To tell you any more might give it away, but you can always read the book jacket. This book was interesting in the beginning, and soon graduated to compelling and then impossible-to-put-down. I was reading this on a school night and used up 2 hours of precious homework time because I just HAD to know what happened. All the right details were there, but so subtle that it the end was a pleasant surprise. The writing was so vivid that you could feel your heart racing during the exciting parts. You have to read this book at least 3 times to get all the details. Then read Robin McKinley's other books to get a true appreciation for her wonderful writing talent. --Abigail Short
