Rating: Summary: LOVE IT LOVE IT Review: Hi, people. This book is wonderful. It is about a girl who becomes a skillful rider and finds her destiny in being kidnapped. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ! It is so enchanted. I recomend you to read it!
Rating: Summary: Gonturan is Da Bomb! Review: I am a die hard fantasy lover and read almost more than I sleep, so I'm not kidding when I say The Blue Sword is THE best book I've ever read. I first received this novel on my 12th birthday and am on my 7th time reading it (I turn 14 in two months, you do the math). Good characterization, carefully laid out plot, and vivid description has won my vote in its favor. I especially enjoyed how each of the characters' roles, human and animal alike, were fitted into the whole scenerio as the story progressed. I also liked how Gonturan (the Blue Sword) was given a life of its own; however outrageous it may be, but well related to the cause. May the tales of Damar live forever! I look forward to Mrs. McKinley's future works!
Rating: Summary: I ADORE this book! Review: I read this for the first time when I was 8 or 9, since then, I have reread it countless times. This book sticks with you. Whenever a I write a story, a character seems to be named Harry, Hari, or something like that. I've also just been obsessed with the desert and dogs and what I call "Harry pants" (read the book and you'll know what I'm talking about!) ever since reading this book. Please read this book. It creates a unique paradigm that will stay with you for a long time.
Rating: Summary: Ugh. Pat story, anyone? Review: I don't understand why I can't enjoy Robin McKinley's novels more. Somehow, no matter how many I read, none of them really grab me. The same goes for The Blue Sword. Nothing impressed me at all.The characters seem remote, the writing is remote, too many fantastic and unbelievable things happen, there is no real fear that the good guys won't win and there'll be a happy ending; everything about this book disappointed me. Robin McKinely seemed to be very confused, impatient, and distracted when she wrote this one. The plot was pat and the characters, well, I already complained about that. Suffice it to say, this book left me cold. As do, surprisingly and a little strangely, almost all of McKinley's stuff, which is such a shock to everyone, seeing as she is so beloved.
Rating: Summary: An unknown heroine with a hidden gift Review: My favorite book theme involves people (particularly teens or preteens) who think they're ordinary and suddenly discover that they have extraordinary talents they always thought were permanently beyond them or didn't exist. The three best examples I can think of are Harry Potter, Matthias of Redwall, and, of course - Harimad-Sol.
Rating: Summary: Oh My God!! Review: This is a great book!! Harry (Angharad) is a very fun heroine and she quickly overcomes challenges, faces danger, and maybe even falls in love..... If you want the prequel, get The Hero and the Crown, which is as good as this one. Harimad-sol is very easy to identify with, and every teenage girl shoud read this at least once.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read! Review: This was an excelent book. It is really exciteing, and it is quite long and not to easy. I think Harry is really cool, and the other charecters are all interesting and life-like.I think this bok should be beter known than it is. nd that there should be another book after it. I think that It was very exciteing, with just the right balance between some action, and some description.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I really like Robin McKinley's books. She is indeed an awesomeauthor and I love her books. In the 8th Grade, my English teacher letus choose a book of R. McKinley for our book report credit. I chose the book Beauty and really liked it. This summer, I went to the library,(I Love reading) and checked out this neat book to see what it was all about. I couldn't put it down. It was so good. Robin does use a language of her own in these books, and it is fun to read them. I can totally relate to the two "worlds" getting along and the challenges of understanding cultures and languages. I recommend this book. (I think it's specifically designed for teenage girls ages, 13-15. You'll love Harry and the story.)
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful book(understatement)it holds up through the year Review: I first read this book when I was 12 years old. I remember absolutely loving it!I even modelled my D&D characters after Harimad-Sol! Since then it has sat on my bookshelf. I am not one to reread books over and over. But I was hungry for something to read and since it had been 12 years since I read it, I decided to see if it held up to my mind's memory. Not only did it, but I saw through different eyes and noticed so much more richness in the tale!!! I read the end and after I cried for a time I opened it back up and started at the begining! If you love fantasy and desert and cats and personal journies through emotional chasms, you must read this book!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: I have always thoroughly enjoyed Robin McKinley, but this book is really great. It has the character development that most other fantasy lacks, without sacrificing any of the adventure. This is a great book to pick up during the summer and read in a hammock to journey to another world.
