Rating: Summary: what fantasy is all about Review: "The blue sword" is one of the greatest books i'v ever read. It combines everything I like in a book. Harry leaves her homland to join her brother Richard in the far land of Damar. what happend to her there, you could read for yourself. I wuold like to tell you what happens to the reader at the land of Damar . the first three chapters are quite slow, but from the forth chapter you simply can't stop reading. The whole set up for the plot is pure fantasy, which I usualy don't quite like, but the plot itself is so realistic that you can't stop identefing with the charactr. although no matter how realistic the plot is, it is still full of magic. I didn't wish I were Harry, while I read the book,I was Harry. read this book you will not regret it,I promiss, you will probably remember it for the rest of your life.

Rating: Summary: The Blue Sword Review: The first time I saw this book was when I was in the 6th grade. I read the first chapter and put it down. A year later I found it again and decided to read it anyway. Thankgoodness I did. It is the best book I've ever read. Eight years later I still read it reguraly. The mix of romance and adventur is compeling. Who hasn't dreamed of being kidnaped by a hansome king with magical power. Learning your going to be a hero. Maybe best of all yeilding the "Blue Sword" that magical blade that only women can use. I've seen such a blade in only one other series. Her name is Need. My poor book is falling apart now but I refuse to give it up. I just wish there were more stories form Damar. :)
Rating: Summary: Highly enjoyable and gloriously addictive! Review: This is a fantastic book. I have re-read it so many times I'velost count. And I'm not the kind of person who likes re-readingbooks. There's just something about Harry Crewe and the land of Damar that keeps me coming back for more. Harry is a very interesting character who is easy to like and I found myself staying up to all hours of the night to see what happened to her next. Romance, adventure, humor, and a pretty nice looking sword, it's got it all. Read this book! You will NOT regret it.
Rating: Summary: An AMAZING story like never before! Review: I am not a fan of science fiction, but this story is completely amazing! Having first read The Hero and the Crown in 7th grade, I had already liked Robin McKinley's writing style. But I was completely unprepared for this book when I read it a year later. It's now been 12 years since then and I have never forgotten it. It tells the story of this young girl, Harry, who feels like if she is missing something in her life. Now the first 3 chapters are a little slow but then, enters Corlath, golden-eyed king of Damar. Here is where the action begins. He possesses unusual powers of the mind and one look at Harry makes him realize she is the one who can wield the Blue Sword whose power is needed to save his country. So he kidnaps her and there begins an adventurous tale across a desert and mountains containing fight scenes, comedy, a magic sword, and a dash of romance. I completely got sucked into this imaginary world. It's a page turner, you won't put down. Never have I come across a book like this one and have been hoping all these years for a third part to continue the heroine tales of Damar. Tattered and with loose pages, I still read my poor book whenever I get a chance.
Rating: Summary: You must own The Blue Sword Review: I love all of Robin McKinley's books, but The Blue Sword is the undisputed favorite. I have probably read it through about 3 times a year since I picked it up about ten years ago, and I have yet to tire of it. I think it was published before The Hero and the Crown, but chronologically, it takes place afterwards. Harry, a young woman with no better prospects, moves to remote Daria where her brother Richard has been stationed. She finds that the desert and mountains of this foreign land are more familiar to her than the home she left. All the great adventures and mysticism still arise in the ancient country of Damar, especially when she is thrown together with its king Corlath. Much to the delight of Hero and the Crown fans, Luthe and Aerin appear again. McKinley's history, geography, and culture of this fantastic world fully engulfs the reader, making this one wish that sometimes that kelar would make a Damarian kidnap me, too.
Rating: Summary: Remember This For Father's Day Review: Are you a daughter who reads to your dad? If you are, The Blue Sword is a must! Every bit as enthralling as a Patricia C. Wrede dragon book or a Harry Potter opus, The Blue Sword is older and deeper than the former and both richer and better crafted than the latter. The world that Robin McKinley creates in The Blue Sword is every bit as interesting and believable as the one Patricia C. Wrede creates for her Mairelon books. Too bad Amazon has no option for 6 stars!
Rating: Summary: Simply one of the best books I have ever read in my life Review: Okay. I have read some of the other reviews, and from what I have seen none of the people who gave the book a bad review actually read it. So here is the actual truth from someone who knows what they are talking about. The main character is Harry Crewe, a young, inexperienced, rather plain girl. She is orphaned and is taken under the wing of a military couple who live on the exotic desert frontier. Harry doesn't quite fit in. Once she gets to Damar, she finds out that there are rising tensions between the military and the natives. Harry ends up getting magically kidnapped out of her bedroom by the king of the natives, a certain Corlath. Corlath is no ordinary king. He has a magic gift that helps him out all the time. He didn't really want to kidnap Harry but his "gift" insisted that he did. So he kidnaps her and Harry isn't really that broken up about it, but she is confused why she is there. She adapts quickly. Soon Harry starts having visions, with the help of some malak, or "seeing water", of Aerin, the legendary queen of Damar. Because of this, Corlath starts teaching Harry how to be a warrior, giving her a war horse, Sungold, who she loves, and sending her into the mountains with one of the king's trusted kind of knight guys. Anyway, Harry proves herself, and eventually ends up saving all of Damar, all the while struggling with her feelings about her duty to Corlath and his people and also her duty to the people she left behind. I would tell more, but it would ruin the book. Just remember, it may be a little slow at first for some people, but it is worth it, oh so worth it, to continue reading. I love this book so much. It it realistic and full of adventure, but is at the same time a beautiful fairy tale that took my breath away.
