Rating: Summary: *insert title here* Review: i just finished readig troy a while ago, and i think that it was really good. i liked how she told the story through the eyes of the ordinary people living in troy during the war. i also liked how she didn't completely focus on the major events that we think of when we think of the trojan war, and made up saide stories. there were some things i didn't like, though. in the beginning the author made it clear that marpessa was extremely quiet and then she doesn't talk any less that any of the characters. also, i don't like how the gods were randomly popping up, telling the charactors what was going to happen, and then having the characters forget everything that happened. i did like the part were achilles kills hector, and marpessa sees athena in the battle. i also liked the fact that ares was being seen everywhere.in general, this was a really good book. not perfect, but good.
Rating: Summary: A great retelling of the Trojan War! Review: I love Greek Mythology, and I'm glad I read this book. The main characters are Xanthe, who cares for Hector's son, and Xanthe's sister, Marpessa, who is a servant of Helen of Troy's. Because everyone is paying attention to Hades and not to her, the goddess Aphodite decided to make things more interesting, and has Xanthe and Marpessa both fall in love with Alastor, who is wounded in the war. There are other characters who play important roles as well, like Iason, who cares for the horses in Hector's stables, and Phrontis, Alastor's horrible mother. I liked how Gods kept coming and warning characters about what was about to happen, but no one believed who they said they were and thought they were crazy. This book was pretty violent, but it was really good anway.
Rating: Summary: Eh... Review: I picked it up in the library, its cover all shiny and glittery, gold on black. It just goes to show, never judge a book by its cover. I didn't find it particularly horrid, but it was rather stale, contained too much unnecessary sex, and the only word I can find to describe it is...adequate. It wasn't really great like I would have expected it to be, but, then again, it did have a lot to live up to (all the prestigious awards and the thrilling mysticism of the Trojan War and mythology), so I gave it the benefit of doubt. Minus the fantastical elements, the sex, the historical context, it is good, a book about sibling rivalry and human relationships.
Rating: Summary: Not a fast read but a great book Review: I read this book for a young adult lit class in college and for the first time i really enjoyed the story of troy. I've always loved Greek mythology, but before this the story was just dripping with war imagry and weapons this, and armor that. This book really put a human face on it - i think girls especially will appreciate this book.

Rating: Summary: Disappointed.... Review: I simply can't tell you how sorry I am that I cannot be one of those who raves about this book. Being a young adult myself, when I found this book in the Young Adult's section of the bookstore I was thrilled. I am sure many people can relate when I say that the Trojan War has always fascinated me. When I bought this book I couldn't wait to dive into the story. I bought this book fully prepared to be blown away because of all the amazing reviews and awards circling it. But boy, was I disappointed. I realize that because I am young I may not yet appreciate this sort of thing but I was absolutely shocked by the...erm...shall we say...explicit material in this book. Every time I pass this book, proudly displayed in the Young Adult's section in the bookstore, I can't help wondering what some parents will think when they peer over their 11-year-old's shoulder and find them reading some of the worst parts of this book. Now, this book is like a soap opera in print, which is not always a bad thing, and there are very many parts where the character's feelings hold the largest piece. But for some reason (maybe it's just me) I found that, although the author was writing words that described the character's feelings it all felt surface-like to me. For a book so full of emotions none of the feelings expressed felt as deep as in some other books I've read; they just felt like words on a page. The characters in this book were all original and the author's imagination and portrayal of some of the best known characters in the Trojan War was something different and there were personalities that I enjoyed discovering. This book could make a great PG-13 or even R rated movie, but as a book it was a little disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Bets book about troy so far Review: I started reading this book thinking it would be like another book, Inside the Walls of Troy, which is told by Cassandra and Helen instead of those who are rarely mentioned in any of the stories about troy, and most of them exist inside this book and this book only. This book is told from several points of view: Polyxena ( not the princess ), Iason, Alastor, and the two major players in the book, Marpessa and Xanthe. Familiar fces, whether gods or mortals, also show up: Astyanax (the part where he dies is the only part I don't read anymore), Hector, Priam, Hecuba, Paris, Deiphobus, Ares, Aphrodite,Artemis, Poseiden, Apollo,Laocoon, Andromache, Helen, Cassandra, and Achilles. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to read about troy.
Rating: Summary: Best history book ever!!! Review: I think this book is the best book ever written about the history of persia and the trojan war. it talks about the gods, goddesses, famous people like Achilles and Hector, all through the eyes of ordinary people. Xanthe, who works healing wounded soldiers, falls in love with this Persian soldier guy Alastor. Xanthe has a very close relationship with her sister Marpessa who never ever speaks, olny to Xanthe, and can see the gods. Aphrodite, bored of war, war, war, decides to make things more interesting for herself, so she gets her little son Eros (Cupid) to shoot at Marpessa AND xanthe, so that they will both fall in love with Alastor. This book is sad, funny, and happy all at the same time. it shows what life was like for people back then, and what happens to Xanthe and Marpessa.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed.... Review: if you know the story, or have read 'the Iliad' (Troy)...then you must read this! its a neat story. Geras highlighted characters that were hardly, or have never been mentioned within the original epic Troy. She viewed the story from the Trojan's perspective..It all ends the same way- hardly some parts of it was distoredly narrarated if you were to compare it from the original version (on how the war went on). But, the ending kind of left me hanging...what happened to Xanthe? Adromarche? Guys and Gals - This book is WAY better than the movie even if Mr. Pitt was in it!
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: Informative, with an excellant plot line wrapped around it! I could not put it down!
