Summary: The magical book of iceships, magic, and towers
Review: This book is wonderful. There isn't even one boring part in the book, its like a new world. This book is about a boy named Tal, a chosen from the Orange Order. In the book Tal's father is missing and his mother is very sick.Tal needs to go get a Primary Sunstone to get into Aneir. After all Tal's plans have failed his Uncle Ebbit says that he needs to climb to the top of the red tower and steal a Primary Sunstone there because its a low order and their wouldn't be much security. He meets a spirtshadow and falls into a world of icecarls, iceships, Shield Maidens, complete darkness, and freezing weather. He meets Milla andd they become enemies, but what Tal doesn't know is that Milla will save his life a few times. I think this book is great, I really got hooked on it.

Summary: Tight and Rad
Review: I loooooved this book! I disagree with the 10 year old boy from Frankurt, Michigan, who said it was slow. I read it in one day. This book is great, because it's full of action, and it has a lot of characters and creatures I really liked. The Beastmaker game is easy to imagine --it would make a rad video game. I hate having to wait for the third book to be published.

Summary: Entertaining Enough
Review: While Garth Nix was hardly able to reveal his amazingly fine-tuned style of writing in this publication... it's not fair to compare it to Sabriel and Shade's Children. Reading it as a strictly juvenile fiction in a commercialized series, the book shines above the ordinary. Quick paced, but highly detailed with character development, foreboding and cliffhanger ending, this book fulfills its purpose. Strangely dark, this book does seem a little scary for younger ears, but will delight older children. It never reveals what really Tal is having to fight. We simply know he's the oldest child of three and must act like the leader of the family after the disappearance of his father. Other than that, the definite plot against him is very mysterious and keeps the reader guessing. And definitely makes me crave for more. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Summary: To Be Continued!
Review: Fine book, but I don't know I could keep reading it. It was boring in the beging but got better as it when along.( you know, more action )Even then though it came to an fast ending. I reading the next one because I want to know what happens next but make sure you get a discout in case you don't like it.

Summary: Can't wait for the next book!
Review: Garth Nix has crafted a rich and colorful world that I am eager to learn more about. The writing is appropriate for young adult novels, and the story, characters, and world-building offer much for the readers, both young and old, to enjoy.

Summary: This book should be nixed
Review: I was asked to read this book from beginning to end, and that is the only reason I continued to read this book beyond the prologue ("Zero?" Give me a break). The plot is disjointed, and there is nothing about the protagonist Tal that makes you care about him one way or another. The only female character that isn't hard, cold or downright malicious is Tal's mother, and she spends the majority of the book suffering from a mysterious illness that keeps her at death's door. Good science fiction/fantasy is well written and suspenseful (one chapter actually ends with "Let the battle begin!"), not just a version of a "Star Wars" film put into words on a page. This book is a colossal waste of time.

Summary: Ah, mediocrity...
Review: What can I say? Only that this book falls in the general range of mediocrity...

My biggest problem with this book was that it was too short to develop any sort of plot. It just meanders aimlessly to an end that isn't even an end; the story is just left hanging "for an upcoming sequel" I guess. The idea itself isn't a bad one: a sheltered wizard boy tries to save his family, but winds up being shown the outside world. It's just the way that the author goes about developing, or shall I say not developing, the story that I have a problem with. Anyway, this is not exactly something to put on your "top reads" list.

Review: I think this book has a good amount of Imagination for the reader. I think it was great how the author brought the story to a cliffhanger. Readers will want to know what happens nexts. Does he make it?

Summary: An Excellent Author! Make sure you read Sabriel
Review: I saw this in the bookstore and thought that it was a new Lucas Movie. It is a Lucas Book. Then I realized it was by Garth Nix who wrote Sabriel, which is a great book! This is not for someone looking for a Harry Potter light funny book. Serious fantasy with a very intricate plot. I look forward to the second book!

Summary: Good first book of a series, I wish for the next one now!
Review: Tal, an intriguing young man of 13 years, is thrust by his father's absence and his mother's illness into a stressful decision. How does he help his family survive his decidedly different and complex society when all the cards are stacked against him? His determination in facing this sudden and harsh reality is inspiring, and his choices are very logical and believable. The reader will be unable to put this book down until the last page is reached. The action is quick and constant, Tal's world is vividly described, and I only hope that the next book in the series comes soon!
